Chapter 999 I Like Someone Else
"Arabella's right, Diana. You're an amazing girl, you don't need to chase after any guy."
"Grandma, it's not what you think."
Diana listened to Eloise's words, unable to lift her head, and could only deny it shyly.
"And that professor, what's he so proud about? You just run to him whenever he calls?"
"Mom, he's not like that at all. I'm leaving."
Diana couldn't stand hearing anyone speak ill of Curtis, so she got up and left.
Arabella watched her go, feeling a bit uneasy. She knew that eventually, Diana would have to get married.
"So, that professor doesn't think Didi is good enough?"
Eloise whispered after Diana left.
"I think he's just pretending to be proud. Deep down, he might be insecure." Arabella said.
"Does Didi have such poor taste? Which university is he at? Eloise and I can go check him out."
"Yes, that's exactly what I was thinking."
As soon as Brett spoke, Eloise got anxious, too.
Arabella thought it was a good idea for Brett and Eloise to go see for themselves, so she gave them the address.
They had made donations to the school, so they would be well received there.
Diana left the Harrington Mansion and drove to a bar in the city.
She had plans with friends, but as soon as she walked in, she saw Curtis, the man they had been talking about at home.
A woman was leaning on his shoulder, crying.
Diana's expression fell as she watched.
It was Juliette.
The woman he had said was pregnant and that he was going to marry.
So, what was going on?
Diana was stunned for a moment and instinctively wanted to rush over.
Her friend, not understanding, grabbed her and asked, "What are you doing?"
Diana came to her senses, looked at them one more time, and then let her friend lead her to their reserved spot.
They hadn't gotten back together, so what was she doing rushing over?
To question Curtis about why Juliette was leaning on his shoulder?
What was he doing?
She saw his mouth moving, clearly comforting her.
Diana was on the second floor, and as she turned around, she saw him holding Juliette and comforting her as they walked away.
Were Curtis and Juliette dating?
He looked so concerned.
Diana drank too much that night and slept at her friend's house.
The next morning, when she woke up and checked her phone, she saw a message from Curtis on Facebook: [Juliette isn't getting married anymore.]
[Good for her.] She replied and tossed her phone aside.
Just as she was about to go to the bathroom, her phone rang with a video call.
She glanced at it and saw it was Curtis. She thought about ignoring it, but then she grabbed her phone and answered while heading to the bathroom. "What do you want?"
"Where are you?"
Curtis immediately recognized that Diana wasn't in her room.
"At a friend's house."
Diana realized the issue and replied.
She felt he was avoiding the real question, so why was he video calling her?
Just as she was about to enter the bathroom, someone knocked on the door. She looked over, "Come in."
Diana thought it was her friend, but it turned out to be her friend's brother.
"Breakfast is ready."
"Okay, thanks."
Diana was a bit stunned but politely agreed.
Her friend's brother smiled shyly and then closed the door as he left.
Diana's heart skipped a beat. Why did that guy look so shy when he smiled?
"A friend?"
"Do you need something?"
"A boyfriend?"
Curtis asked again.
Curtis had heard the man mention breakfast.
"Yeah, a boyfriend."
Diana, thinking about last night's scene, replied defiantly.
"Then I won't bother you."
Curtis ended the video call.
Diana's eyes immediately welled up with tears, her vision blurring.
Curtis was such a jerk.
What was that expression he had just now?
He went to comfort another woman late at night, so if anyone should be upset, it should be her.
Diana threw her phone back on the bed and then went to the bathroom.
But as she splashed water on her face, her tears mixed in.
She hated this feeling.
How could she be so useless?
She was usually so competitive and rarely let anyone push her around.
What was there to cry about?
Losing her was Curtis's loss.
When Diana went downstairs, she saw only her friend's brother in the dining room and couldn't help but ask, "Where's Emily?"
"She said she had to go block someone. She told you to relax and have breakfast. Come, sit."
"Oh, thanks," Diana replied.
The man smiled again.
Diana discreetly observed him. Since she was a classmate of his sister, they had known each other since they were kids. They were three years apart, and she had even attended his wedding.
But he had divorced his bride the day after the wedding. It was strange.
"Are you seeing anyone now? Or maybe a boyfriend?"
Diana asked playfully.
"I'm considering it."
"Oh?"
Diana sipped her milk and looked at him, curious to hear more.
"I just don't know if the woman would be willing, if she would think I'm good enough."
He smiled at her as he spoke.
Diana seriously thought about it and then said, "How could any woman not be willing to be with someone as handsome as you? But I thought you liked men."
"You're still so funny."
Diana smiled awkwardly but politely.
She couldn't help but curse Curtis in her mind.
Others said she was funny and humorous, but Curtis said she was thoughtless.
"What about you? Do you have a boyfriend now?" He asked.
Diana thought for a moment and smiled, "No, I'm single. Why? Are you interested in me?"
"What if I am?"
Diana was stunned.
Her heart suddenly raced. This joke had gone too far.
She quickly laughed, "If you are, I wouldn't dare. I respect you like my brother."
"Respect is fine, but you don't have to see me as a brother. After all, I'm single too."
He spoke calmly and gently.
But the more he spoke, the more nervous Diana felt.
She couldn't help but wonder what was going on.
Her best friend in the city wanted to set her up with her brother?
Diana looked at him and suddenly thought about how Curtis had looked down on her family background. But with this man, they were well-matched.
"My divorce does make me a bit unworthy of you." He said.
Diana, afraid he would misunderstand, quickly said, "I like someone else."
"What?"
