Chapter 769 Thank You for Giving Me Such a Wonderful Gift

"We should've come back together." After what felt like forever, Alexander finally looked deep into Victoria's eyes and said it.

He'd already pushed back the tears, just staring at her calmly. It was all in the past now, even though his heart was aching.

Victoria was already crying, she wiped her tears, unable to sit there any longer. She got up to leave.

"Victoria," he called out suddenly.

She didn't stop, knowing if she stayed, she'd lose it.

Alexander got her determination to leave, stepped off the podium, and quickly caught up with her.

In front of hundreds of guests, he walked up to her. He didn't grab her hand again; he just blocked her path.

"Today is our daughter Strawberry's Welcome Baby Party," Alexander reminded her with a serious voice.

Of course, she knew it was the Welcome Baby Party, but she felt his words were out of place. The tension between them was palpable, and she couldn't believe he chose this moment to bring it up. Her heart ached with a mix of frustration and sadness.

"What's up with Mr. Harrington?" Among the guests, Ursa whispered to Jerome.

"Let's just watch," Jerome said softly.

"Feels like Mr. Harrington's trying to make peace," Ursa muttered.

"No way." Daisy stared at them, murmuring.

Ursa couldn't help but wonder aloud, "What is he doing? Everyone's watching, and he's blocking Victoria."

"Stop talking," Jerome reminded Ursa as he watched.

Many other guests were also curious, their eyes fixed on Alexander and Victoria.

The Harrington Family had always insisted that the couple had their issues but still loved each other. But the rumors outside were different, fueling everyone's curiosity about what was really going on.

Alexander's tall figure blocked Victoria's way, and in a voice only she could hear, he said softly, "You have to stay tonight."

"Everything you just said wasn't in the script I gave you."

"Yeah," Alexander admitted.

"How do I know what you'll say next? I need to be sure it has nothing to do with us," she questioned, her eyes searching his.

"I just wanted to tell you that last year's incident has always..." Alexander began, but Victoria cut him off.

"Don't bring it up again," she said firmly.

"Okay," he conceded. "I'll bring Strawberry on stage and follow your script to end the event." Alexander confirmed with her.

"Okay," Victoria agreed, though her expression remained wary.

Then, unexpectedly, he held her hand.

Victoria immediately questioned, "What are you doing?"

Alexander insisted, "It'll just be a moment," his grip gentle but firm.

Victoria walked with him towards the table where the elders were seated, thinking it must really be just a moment. At this point, it was really inappropriate for her to leave. Seeing the worried looks from the elders, she regretted her impulsiveness. If Eloise got sick from anger again...

"Let's finish the event first," Arabella whispered.

Victoria nodded. When Alexander picked up Strawberry, she touched Strawberry's little hand. Looking at Strawberry's cute face, she gently kissed her cheek.

Maybe in the future, Strawberry would feel very emotional seeing this video, seeing how small and loved she once was.

Victoria followed them to the front again, and the lighthearted entrance music instantly relaxed the party's atmosphere.

Alexander held Strawberry steadily in his arms, then moved the script Victoria had prepared in front of him. With his long fingers pressing one side, he said seriously, "Now, let's invite Strawberry's family to the stage, but..."

Victoria was just about to breathe a sigh of relief when she heard the change in his tone and instantly held her breath again.

Alexander looked at her and said softly, "I still want to thank my wife. Thank you for giving birth to our child."

Victoria's eyes felt a bit warm, but she quickly smiled and looked at the family members in front of her. "Please come on stage," she said, making a gesture of invitation.

She ignored Alexander's thanks. She didn't need his gratitude. She never needed a man's thanks for giving birth. She wanted someone who shared her blood, someone who would never betray her, someone who would always be close. Giving birth wasn't for him.

But now wasn't the time to talk about this; she just wanted the Welcome Baby Party to end perfectly.

Arabella and Maximus helped Eloise and Brett to the front. Victoria walked over to support Eloise, who smiled and whispered in her ear, "You just scared me."

"I'm sorry," Victoria whispered back.

Eloise held her hand, not wanting her to apologize. It was good enough that everyone was together now.

The staff brought out a gemstone pendant and a pearl bracelet. Eloise put the pendant on Strawberry, followed by Arabella and Maximus with the bracelet. After a series of customary procedures, Arabella presented a grand gift.

Victoria lowered her head, deep in thought. The elders' affection for Strawberry was clear; she was their treasure.

After the ceremony, the party officially began. Later, when it was time for Strawberry to go to bed and Victoria was about to take her upstairs, Alexander approached the nanny and said, "Take Strawberry upstairs and look after her."

"Yes," the nanny replied, leaving with the drowsy Strawberry.

Alexander naturally held Victoria's hand. "You can't leave yet; you still need to greet the guests with me."

"Isn't Daisy your date tonight?" Victoria reminded him, recalling his own words.

Alexander noticed her calm demeanor and a hint of a smile appeared on his otherwise serious face. He quickly added, "If we don't, tomorrow morning's headlines will be about Harrington Group's stock plummeting. Regardless of our private issues, we need to put on a good show tonight."

"Alexander, I don't want to keep pretending to be in love with you."

"Then what? Leave without a word? How do you expect the elders to explain to everyone?" Alexander seriously reminded her in a low voice.

Victoria glanced inside, seeing Daisy and her parents looking towards them, and the elders already chatting with friends. She suddenly had a bold idea and looked at Alexander with determination. "You want an explanation? I'll give you one."

Victoria said this and pushed his hand away, then walked towards the stage.

Alexander turned, his face darkened. What was she trying to do? This crazy woman.

"Honey," Alexander's joyful voice called out in front of the crowd.

Victoria turned her head in confusion, and before she could see anything, she was pulled into a warm embrace. Alexander looked at her with a smile in his eyes. "Thank you for giving me such a wonderful gift."

Gift?

Victoria hadn't reacted yet when the back of her head was held, and then lips tasting of red wine sealed her mouth.
