Chapter 150 The Shameless Woman?
"I had assumed you incapable of separating personal sentiments from professional obligations, yet I see now that you've been overestimating your own abilities," he said.
Victoria felt the sting of his words, her cheeks flushing with indignation.
"And what makes you believe that I would ever fall for a woman who lacks the decency to maintain a respectful distance from her brother-in-law? A woman devoid of any semblance of shame?" He continued to dissect her with his words, each sentence a calculated strike.
"Well, why don't you divorce me then?" she retorted, her voice laced with a bitter edge. "If I'm as presumptuous and shameless as you claim, why keep me tethered to the Harrington family name? You could simply erase me."
Alexander Harrington offered a faint smile in response, rising from his seat. Victoria watched as he moved towards the door, a sinking feeling settling in her chest. She felt a sudden wave of timidity wash over her, prompting her to retreat in silence.
As Alexander advanced towards her with measured steps, Victoria felt a surge of unease. She turned to open the door, only to be met with the solid barrier of his chest against her back, his long fingers holding the door firmly shut.
Victoria spun around, her eyes flashing with defiance and defense. Alexander merely towered over her, his superior height rendering her insignificant.
Frightened, Victoria averted her gaze, seeking an escape. But with his imposing figure pressing against her shoulder, there was no room for her to slip away. Alexander Harrington deliberately cupped her chin, forcing her to meet his gaze before leaning in close to whisper, "I have a secret to share."
Victoria Kensington stared back at him, her eyes wide with bewilderment. A secret? She felt that one more glance into his eyes would be her undoing.
"You've misunderstood your husband; he's not one to make life easy for others." His voice was almost seductive, his words delivered with a soft smile.
Victoria's gaze gradually fell as she listened to him. His voice alone was enough to make her feel as though she was succumbing to him. Yet Alexander held her chin firmly, preventing her from looking away, his hand unintentionally grazing her soft lips. The dryness of her skin ignited a desire within him, an urge to moisten them.
He could tell she'd had a rough few days; she looked noticeably worn. He held her gaze until he could no longer resist the urge to move closer.
Victoria turned her head away in an instant, but he quickly had her facing him again, his grip on her chin now slightly painful. She let out an involuntary whimper.
At the sound, Alexander's restraint crumbled. He kissed her with an urgency that bordered on desperation. Victoria's hands instinctively pressed against the door behind her.
She had come here to demand a divorce, to speak her mind. But now...
He claimed her lips with a fervor that was almost aggressive, until he felt the soft, warm layer beneath them. Then, with a modicum of restraint, he paused. Victoria bit her lip in anger, intending to push him away, but the moment her fingers touched his arm, he took hold of the back of her head, causing her neck to ache.
Trapped against the door, she was at his mercy, unable to protest as he kissed her with wild abandon, as if he intended to consume her entirely. Her breath was stolen away, her strength swiftly fading, her legs weakening beneath her.
Alexander caught her in his other arm, deepening the kiss, their emotions a heated tangle, until a sharp knock on the door forced him to reluctantly pull away. He glanced at her with eager eyes, his thumb gently wiping the corner of her mouth, his gaze fixed on her with a clear intent.
Victoria, however, couldn't bring herself to meet his eyes, feeling utterly defeated. She sensed something amiss at the corner of her mouth but couldn't muster the strength to wipe it clean. That's when his thumb, warm yet firm, met her skin, gently wiping it away for her.
"Mr. Harrington, Miss Montgomery is downstairs. She wishes to see you," a voice outside, belonging to Jasmine, informed him softly.
In truth, all Jasmine wanted in that moment was to send the other woman away. But when faced with the need to maintain professional impartiality, she realized she couldn’t risk losing her job; she had to report the matter.
Upon hearing her words, Alexander Harrington fixed his gaze on Victoria Kensington, his voice low, "The man she spent that night with, it should have been Sebastian Montague."
