Chapter 612 Admitting Defeat
"I'm so happy! Grandma said there's French cuisine. Let's go in quickly." Victoria took the initiative to link her arm with his, her voice sweet and sticky.
Alexander half-closed his eyes and gazed at her intently. His eyes then shifted down to the hand holding his arm, before he unconsciously looked at her once more.
Victoria frowned and said, "Why are you looking at me so seriously? You're scaring me."
"Drop the act," Alexander reminded her indifferently.
"I'm not acting. I'm just happy. Let's go in quickly. I'm so hungry."
"It's very exaggerated," Alexander couldn't listen anymore and commented again.
"You're so boring." Victoria simply gave up, let go of him, and walked inside by herself.
Sure enough, Alexander felt much more comfortable this way.
Her earlier fawning manner always made him feel creepy and uneasy.
"Everyone, we're back." Victoria happily entered the living room.
Despite the lingering pain, the pain wouldn't delay her pretense now.
Besides, seeing the elders always made her happy.
After all, they all doted on her.
Eloise smiled, "Victoria is back. Come here and let me see if you're fine."
"I'm doing very well, Grandma. Alexander took good care of me and bought mechips every day." Victoria immediately sat next to Eloise and acted spoiled.
"What? Eating chips every day? That's so unhealthy!" Eloise immediately looked heartbroken, her eyes soft and loving when looking at Victoria, but she became unhappy when she looked at Alexander, "What are you doing?"
"Grandma, I don't think he still cares about me anymore after the wedding and wants a new wife." Victoria hugged Eloise's arm, deliberately saying this in a spoiled manner, and glanced at Alexander.
Alexander maintained a stoic expression, choosing to remain seated and silently fixating his gaze on Victoria. He refused to utter a single word.
"Do you really think so?" Eloise cooperated perfectly.
Arabella and Maximus also quietly watched Victoria throw a tantrum but didn't say anything.
After all, it was rare for their daughter-in-law to act spoiled and complain.
This meant there was a chance for the young couple to reconcile.
Alexander sighed lightly, looked at the deliberately spoiled Victoria again, and remained silent.
He wanted to see what she was up to.
Seeing Alexander not speaking, Eloise coaxed Victoria again, "If he wants a new wife, your grandpa and I will get a new grandson."
"Great, I knew you loved me the most," Victoria said with a sweet smile.
"Of course, I still hope you'll come to accompany me more and give me a great-grandchild." Eloise's voice got softer and more private as she spoke, and Victoria's face suddenly turned red.
"Grandma." She pretended to be shy and buried her face in Eloise's shoulder.
Alexander thought her pretentious manner was really annoying.
They had spent a week on the island, but nothing happened, and now she was acting like this again. It was infuriating.
Alexander felt an itch in his heart but could only silently endure it.
When no one was around later, he would deal with her properly.
Before dinner, Victoria went to wash her hands and heard a soft, closing sound.
Her small hands, covered in soapy bubbles, stopped. Her heart was pounding, and she didn't need to look up to know it was Alexander.
Alexander walked to her side, his eyes determined and deep, and asked, "Need help?"
As he said this, he looked down at her soapy hands.
Victoria immediately put her hands in the water to rinse them, and Alexander stood there, waiting patiently.
Victoria suddenly had a bad feeling, but she turned off the faucet to save water.
Alexander took a neatly folded towel and handed it to her.
Victoria replied, "Thank you."
She had acted so over-the-top in the living room that she felt awkward facing Alexander, so she was extra gentle and polite now.
Alexander's piercing gaze remained fixed on her, a subtle smile forming at the corners of his eyes, but he just quietly looked at her.
She dried her hands and folded the towel back, putting it away herself.
He stood there without moving, a bit in the way.
But Victoria didn't dare say anything, especially since they were alone in this small space.
To be honest, her heart was about to jump out because she was scared by his silent presence.
Alexander asked, "Weren't you very domineering in front of the elders? Why are you so quiet now?"
"I was just joking with you." Victoria smiled fawningly, looked up at him, and immediately looked down again.
Alexander actually enjoyed her little tricks, even if she was acting.
Of course, he couldn't tell her that.
Today, he had just forced her to put the ring back on, and he wanted to make love after dinner, so he was in a good mood, "So you were joking. I thought you wanted my grandpa to break my ribs."
Victoria instantly looked at him. Her big round eyes were full of disbelief.
How could she bear to have Brett break Alexander's ribs?
Even in the face of possible torment at the hands of Alexander, she wouldn't let anyone touch a hair on his head.
"Sir, Madam, Mrs. Arabella Harrington asked you to come out for dinner," Erica reminded them at the door.
Hearing this, Victoria instinctively wanted to leave, feeling rescued. But just as she was about to go, she was stopped.
Alexander asked her in a deep voice, "You're leaving just like that?"
Victoria looked at him in confusion and answered, "To eat."
"Is food better than me?" Alexander asked again.
Victoria thought that was hard to answer.
She suddenly had a premonition that he wanted to make love again.
No way. She swore she wouldn't let him touch her tonight.
She was in so much pain, and she had just started to feel a bit better.
"Why do you have that expression?" Alexander quickly frowned.
She suddenly had that look of resistance.
"What expression?"
Alexander suddenly fell silent again.
He couldn't rush. What if he scared Victoria?
He looked at her and suddenly smiled, "It's nothing. Go eat first, eat more."
Victoria quickly slipped away. But she couldn't even look at the food tonight, not knowing how to start.
Why did she feel like the next sentence after "eat more" was "eat well to work well"?
"Aren't you hungry? Hurry up and eat." Alexander even thoughtfully handed her coffee.
Victoria's hand trembled, and the fork almost fell.
The elders looked at the two of them. The atmosphere seemed to mirror that of a predator and its prey, evoking the imagery of a big bad wolf and Little Red Riding Hood.
As soon as they finished eating and left, Arabella quietly said, "I feel like I'm going to be a grandma."
Eloise smiled and said, "And I'm going to be a great-grandma."
"By the way, did you put the stuff?" Brett suddenly asked.
"Yes, yes, Arabella and I put it ourselves," Eloise immediately replied.
"Put what?" Maximus, not knowing what was happening, asked.
Eloise and Arabella laughed and continued eating slowly.
——
Half an hour later, it was in the upstairs bedroom.
"It hurts." Victoria exclaimed.
