Chapter 10 Her Decisive Resignation
Finally, after Oscar's climax, he collapsed on top of her, panting heavily. He held Pearl tightly, his body still trembling slightly, his face covered in sweat. He looked down at her, his eyes filled with complex emotions and pain.
Sensing his inner turmoil, she reached up to touch his face and softly said, "Oscar, we need to talk."
Oscar didn't respond, just held her tightly, as if afraid she would disappear if he let go.
In the following days, Pearl kept working like usual, but Oscar started acting weird, giving her pointless tasks.
Payton Taylor, the secretary who saw Pearl as a rival, thought Pearl had lost her edge. She strutted over and dumped a stack of crumpled A4 papers on Pearl's desk with a sneer. "Ms. Harris, these important documents need fifty copies. Mr. Brown needs them, so you better get it right!"
Pearl glanced up at Payton, aware of her disdain. Normally, Pearl would ignore Payton's jabs, focusing solely on Oscar. She didn't give her a second look.
Payton smirked again. "With Ms. Harris's capabilities, this should be a piece of cake, right?"
Pearl swallowed her frustration, not wanting to see Payton's smug face any longer. She headed downstairs to make copies.
Oscar's coldness and Payton's mockery were becoming too much. She couldn't bear the suffocating atmosphere any longer. Returning to her desk, she placed her resignation letter on Oscar's desk and decided to leave.
Finally, the workday ended. As the elevator descended, Pearl watched the floor numbers change, her thoughts swirling. The once-familiar office now felt stifling and oppressive.
As she stepped out of the building, the sunlight stung her eyes. She shook her head and wiped away her tears. From now on, she would live for herself, free from anyone's control.
However, things weren't as simple as she hoped. When Pearl got home, she found Oscar waiting for her.
He leaned against the door, arms crossed, he looked grim. Seeing her, he spoke coldly, "What are you trying to do?"
Pearl's heart sank. She knew Oscar wouldn't let her go easily.
"I've resigned," she said, taking a deep breath and meeting his gaze.
Oscar sneered, "Do you think this is a game? Let me tell you, Pearl, you will continue working for me."
Pearl bit her lip. "I've had enough of your coldness and humiliation. I won't take it anymore."
"What do you mean?" Oscar suddenly stepped closer, his breath hot on her face. "What makes you think you have the right to say that?"
Pearl felt like her throat was being constricted, unable to breathe. She never imagined Oscar would act this way.
She opened her mouth but couldn't say anything.
Oscar grabbed her wrist, dragging her back into the room.
