Chapter 80 Doesn't Mind That You've Been Married
Pearl was a bit at a loss and politely greeted, "Hello, Mr. Collins."
Felix was slightly surprised. He had never heard about this before, but then he burst into laughter happily, saying, "Well, well. You've already gotten married. When did you get married? Just like your grandfather, you didn't even tell me about this major event, so I only get to meet your wife now."
Felix and Charlie were comrades and best friends when they were young.
They fought together on the battlefield, achieved a lot of merits, and built a career.
But later on, they had different opinions on their future paths.
Felix went into politics while Charlie went into business, leading them to have less contact with each other.
Felix scrutinized Pearl, then nodded approvingly. "She's a good girl, Oscar. You have a good eye. She seems like a kind-hearted person."
Oscar said, "Our marriage was simple, and we didn't publicize it. You were stationed on the border, so we didn't inform you. She likes a quiet life, and we've been living low-profile all along."
Felix didn't complain much and said, "You guys are different from other young people.
"This girl has suffered living with you."
Being the daughter-in-law of the Brown family, Pearl's marriage with Oscar had never been publicly acknowledged.
Others didn't know her identity, so she certainly must have felt wronged.
She worked hard without arguing with anyone, and that already made her a good girl.
Oscar didn't deny it either. "She has indeed suffered."
Pearl couldn't help but look at Oscar, not knowing if he was just appeasing Felix or if he truly meant it.
Others might find their hidden marriage strange.
He would use her as a reason to address others' doubts.
She didn't mind that, as she had also made efforts to keep their marriage hidden.
But when he suddenly said she had suffered, it made her feel that over these years, she wasn't overlooked, but had also been noticed by him.
As an elder, he naturally wanted to know more about her.
Pearl understood him and was about to speak, but Oscar explained first, "Pearl comes from an ordinary family, her parents are both working class."
Felix understood and said, "Coming from an ordinary family is great. Oscar, don't misunderstand me, I definitely want to know more about your wife. It wouldn't be good if I, as an elder, know nothing about her. As long as you both have a good relationship, nothing else matters."
Upon hearing this, Oscar felt relieved.
Pearl hadn't said much, but she realized that Felix was easygoing, cheerful, and kind.
Felix talked too much and started coughing.
Pearl quickly poured him some water and raised his pillow to make him more comfortable, showing great thoughtfulness.
Felix took a sip of water and said, "Pearl, don't worry about it, take a seat and rest."
His intimate way of addressing her showed his recognition of her.
Pearl replied, "It's okay, I often take care of Oscar, so I can take care of you too. I'm used to it."
Felix looked at Oscar and disapproved, "What? You take care of Oscar, but who takes care of you? You're a girl, Oscar should take care of you. Oscar, you can't always let her take care of you. Taking care of your wife should be the top priority for a man."
He scolded Oscar for a while.
Felix's words made Pearl feel warm. He was like Charlie.
He respected women and cherished them.
Oscar accepted his advice, "Felix, you're right."
He pulled Pearl's hand and hugged her, saying, "I will take good care of Pearl from now on."
Pearl also wanted to defend Oscar's image. "Felix, please don't misunderstand. Oscar has always been good to me and never treated me poorly."
"That's good." Felix was relieved. A man who cherishes his wife will be happy in marriage.
"Mr. Collins." A voice came from outside.
Pearl hadn't seen this person yet, but she felt the voice was somewhat familiar.
Kelly walked to the door holding a bouquet of flowers.
Seemingly surprised that they were here too, Kelly paused for a moment, but quickly regained her composure and smiled, saying, "Hello, Mr. Collins. My mother and I came to see you."
"Hello, Felix," Karen Edwards, Kelly's mother, said.
Pearl pondered for a moment. Oscar respected Felix so much, and the Edwards family also knew Felix, and they seemed to be somewhat acquainted.
Felix smiled and said, "Why are both of you here?"
"You were sick, so of course we all came to see you," Kelly said, placing the flowers in a vase, and hugged Felix.
"But you have a visitor, Mr. Collins," Felix replied.
"This is Oscar, my comrade's grandson, and also my grandson," Felix introduced.
"I have met him before." Kelly confidently turned to Oscar. "Hello, President Oscar, it's good to see you again."
Felix was curious. "I remember you were abroad for a long time, and I haven't heard that you know Oscar."
"Just a few days ago, my dad took me to see Oscar, and I even had a meal with President Oscar." Kelly didn't hide it. "Mr. Collins, my dad is busy with school matters and can only come to see you in the evening."
"It's alright." Felix didn't mind. "As long as you have the intention to visit, it's enough."
During the conversation, Pearl learned that Eric had served in the military under Felix's command.
Felix was kind and treated all the soldiers he had taught well.
After leaving the military, Eric hadn't forgotten about Felix. He was also a kind person.
Seeing that they were engrossed in their chat, Oscar no longer disturbed them. "Mr. Collins, since they came to see you, we will leave first."
However, Karen looked at Oscar. She was quite enthusiastic and wanted him to stay longer. Karen smiled and said, "Oscar, there's no need to rush. We finally got a chance to meet each other. Let's chat for a while. It would be cheerful to chat together, and Mr. Collins would also enjoy it. Stay here a little longer."
Karen walked over and looked at Oscar with a gaze like she was inspecting her son-in-law. She seemed satisfied with him too. "President Oscar, you are truly outstanding, just as others have said. My daughter has mentioned you multiple times, and I didn't believe her at first, but seeing you today, I now know that anyone who can have a connection with Mr. Collins must be outstanding in all aspects."
Upon hearing Karen's praise for Oscar, Kelly smiled.
Everyone understood that the Edwards family was pleased with Oscar and wanted him to become a part of their family.
Naturally, Felix also understood their intentions. He looked at Kelly and Karen, realizing that they weren't paying any attention to him, but rather were fixated on Oscar.
He rubbed his beard, coughed twice, and quickly interrupted their thoughts. "You should have come to see me. Do you have any other plans?"
Kelly and Karen shifted their gaze back to Felix.
Karen said, "We are here to see you, but we happened to meet Oscar. My husband has a connection with the Brown family, but we are not that close to them, so we wanted to exchange some words with him."
Felix understood her intention and said, "I know the Brown family well. Many girls like Oscar, but he is already married, so you shouldn't have any ideas."
His words shocked Kelly and Karen.
"What? President Oscar is married? It's impossible, Mr. Collins. You must be saying this on purpose to give a chance to your granddaughter." Karen didn't believe it.
Felix wasn't pleased with her words. "I am not that kind of person."
Karen realized she had spoken too much and restrained herself. "I was just joking, Felix. Don't be angry."
Oscar said, "I am married."
Now Karen felt embarrassed. She had come with enthusiasm to please her son-in-law.
After all, Oscar was the person she, Eric, and Kelly were satisfied with.
But now she had gained nothing.
She looked at Kelly and decided to let her give up.
Kelly hesitated for a while, but was unwilling to give up like this.
Oscar said again, "Mr. Collins, we will come to visit you another time."
"Alright, you can go back now." Felix didn't try to keep them.
Oscar left the hospital room with Pearl, but Kelly chased after him, calling out, "Oscar."
