Chapter 100 He Didn't Feel Like It Was Her
Shi Dao Zhe, Pearl couldn't quite understand why her eyes welled up with tears, but she still held back. "Three years have passed, Oscar and I have no relationship anymore!"
Everyone was shocked.
Kittie felt that she had been deceived for so long. "What? You and Oscar only had three years?"
"Yes, only three years," Pearl remarked with a bitter edge to her tone, her words laced with self-mockery. "There's no need for you all to argue. In the end, we are getting divorced; it's just a matter of time."
Hathaway didn't say anything. Since they had a three-year agreement, she had nothing to say either.
Oscar's demeanor turned icy, his fists clenched tightly as Pearl's words stoked a fire of anger within him.
"Ahem..."
He couldn't help but cough.
Hathaway worriedly said, "Oscar, how are you? Get back to bed quickly, you just had surgery!"
Pushing away Hathaway's support, Oscar bristled with defiance.
"Oscar, thank you for saving my daughter today." Evans knew there was no need to say much in this situation. As a father, he naturally had to protect his daughter. Similarly, he admired the person who protected his daughter and didn't want to make a scene. "I've paid for your medical expenses. I hope you can also give Pearl some dignity and not let her lose face as a girl!"
Pearl's eyes became red.
"Dad."
Evans patted Pearl's hand, no blame in his eyes, he only felt that he was in the wrong. "It's alright, I know everything. It's my fault, I won't let you face everything alone in the future!"
"Dad." Pearl hugged Evans. "It's okay, I'm doing fine."
Kittie angrily said, "If you want a divorce, then get a divorce, Pearl. Once you're divorced, come back home. Although our family isn't wealthy, we can still raise a daughter. We won't sell our daughter!"
She thought she had found a good son-in-law in Oscar, believing he genuinely treated Pearl well. However, it ended up like this, and she realized she had misjudged him.
At this moment, Seraphina came barging in.
"President Oscar, how did you get injured when you didn't come to see me today!"
Seraphina was very worried. She had just seen Oscar's serious injuries.
She hadn't even met Oscar yet, and Hathaway pushed her away. "Who are you? How can anyone just touch my son?"
Seraphina looked at Hathaway. "Mrs. Brown, hello. I and President Oscar's... well, I'm pregnant with President Oscar's child!"
The bombshell revelation stunned Hathaway and everyone else present.
"What?" Hathaway exclaimed, echoing the shock rippling through the room.
With no option but to face the truth head-on, Seraphina nodded resolutely.
"Yes... I'm pregnant with President Oscar's child!"
They heard it clearly this time.
She was pregnant with Oscar's child.
Evans and Kittie were both stunned, and their expressions turned angry. They hadn't expected Oscar to have children outside of their family!
What kind of life was their daughter leading in the Brown family?
Hathaway, however, was happy. Even though she wasn't the one pregnant, as long as it wasn't Pearl, it was good news.
This child would become a cherished part of the Brown family, a potential solution to Haley's ailing health if she couldn't conceive.
"Really?" Hathaway smiled and asked, "How many months?"
Seraphina noticed Hathaway's smile and her interest in her unborn child, and she was surprised.
It was easier than she had imagined.
She had thought it would take much longer for Hathaway to accept it.
If Hathaway could accept it, did it mean she could marry Oscar?
This was good news for Seraphina.
She felt relieved, and replied, "Just over a month..."
Hathaway said, "No wonder I couldn't tell, it's only been just over a month. Three months ago, you were guarding yourself so carefully. Seriously, Oscar never mentioned it to me!"
She then grabbed Seraphina's hand very gently.
Oscar coldly said, "Nothing is confirmed yet, it's too early to say!"
Hathaway needed a woman who could embarrass Pearl. Now that a child had appeared, it was even better. She was more than willing to believe and support Seraphina. "Oscar, how could a girl make fun of her reputation? Have you slept with her?"
Oscar didn't speak.
Even though there was evidence that Seraphina had been to his room.
But his intuition told him that it wasn't her.
He had initiated an investigation, but the surveillance footage yielded nothing concrete - only a vague timeframe. The timing of Seraphina's pregnancy seemed to align suspiciously with the incident, adding another layer to the perplexing situation.
He coldly stared at Seraphina's belly, thinking, 'When the time comes, all we need to do is check the DNA, and we will know the truth.'
Seeing him staring directly at her belly with a cold expression in his eyes, it made Seraphina shudder for a moment. She was a little scared, so she instinctively protected her belly and didn't dare to get too close to Oscar.
Hathaway said, "If you don't speak, then it means it happened. This child is yours."
Evans and Kittie also understood that Oscar was involved in this.
"Pearl, do you know about this?" Kittie's question hung heavily in the air, laden with the weight of the revelation. As Oscar's wife, the news that her husband had fathered a child outside their marriage struck Pearl as a devastating blow.
Pearl didn't say anything.
She just looked at them.
Hathaway could accept a stranger, even if she didn't know her at all, as long as she was pregnant. But she couldn't accept Pearl.
It seemed as though fate had intervened, decreeing that she and Oscar were not meant to find happiness together, destined instead to part ways.
Pearl had to think about herself and thought that perhaps it was time to let go. She then looked at Kittie and said, "Mom, none of this matters anymore."
Oscar stared sharply at Pearl.
He thought to himself, 'It doesn't matter anymore?
Does she truly not care? Our three-year marriage, does it hold any significance to her at all? Does she even possess a heart?
'
Kittie sighed. Even if she couldn't accept it, she had no choice but to let go. "Forget it."
They also had some responsibility.
Blaming wouldn't solve the problem.
Hathaway didn't want it all to be Oscar's fault, making their family the wrongdoer, so she started blaming Pearl, "You've been married to Oscar for so long and still can't get pregnant. It can only mean you're not trying hard enough. Don't blame our family for being unkind!"
Pearl understood Hathaway, realizing that Hathaway was simply trying to reassure herself through these words.
Kittie originally didn't want to say anything more, but Hathaway's words made her unhappy. "You're really unreasonable. Your son cheated within the marriage and got another woman pregnant!"
Hathaway retorted, "Don't talk nonsense. Your daughter can't give birth, so does that mean my son can't have children with other women?"
"Shut up!" Oscar said coldly.
Hathaway looked at him and saw his face becoming even paler, so she toned it down. "Okay, I'll shut up. You're still weak, lie down."
Evans intervened, his tone firm. "Pearl, let's not say anything anymore. Let's go home." He understood that even
saying a hundred more words here wouldn't make a difference.
Oscar looked at Pearl, their gazes met, and Pearl quickly turned her head. "Okay, Dad."
She didn't argue but went straight to Evans' side.
Observing Pearl's determined stride, Oscar's brow furrowed with concern. Though he didn't voice any objection, his silence spoke volumes.
"Oscar," Hathaway called out as she supported him.
Seraphina hurried over too, supporting him together.
Hathaway said, "Let's go inside, there is nothing interesting here!"
Oscar pushed them away, distant and indifferent, speaking coldly, "Harold, come here!"
Harold, who had been transparent for a long time, quickly walked over. "Let me handle it."
She then helped to support Oscar to his sickbed.
Without resistance, Oscar accepted her help, allowing her to guide him back to his bed.
Hathaway couldn't touch him at all.
She didn't say anything on the surface, but she felt uncomfortable in her heart.
For so many years, Oscar had never been close to her.
She knew Oscar blamed her for being cold and heartless back then, for not caring about him.
She realized it now.
The only person she could rely on in the future was Oscar, but even if she became more enthusiastic, they were more like strangers in terms of their feelings.
She couldn't say anything, so she just asked Seraphina, "What's your name?"
Seraphina could tell that Hathaway didn't like Pearl, which gave her confidence. So she obediently replied, "Seraphina Brooks."
Hathaway asked again, "Seraphina, where do you live now?"
"In a mansion, arranged for me by President Oscar," Seraphina said with a smile.
Hathaway looked at Oscar. "As long as my son hasn't mistreated you, you shouldn't live over there. You're carrying the child of the Brown family. Come stay with me, and I'll have someone supplement your nutrition. You're too skinny, you must eat more to give birth easily!"
This was a good opportunity for Seraphina. "Can I really do that? I don't want to disturb you."
"It's fine, the house is too empty," Hathaway said. "Your status is different now, and I'll personally take care of you for the sake of my grandson!"
Seraphina gently touched her belly and thought, 'This child came at the perfect time.'
She looked at Oscar with concern and said, "I'm afraid of President Oscar..."
"Drop the 'President' from Oscar's name; it's too formal," Hathaway advised gently, her tone carrying a sense of familiarity. "You're young; just call him Oscar, make it more personal. And if you ever need to call me, just go with Auntie."
Seraphina shyly smiled and said, "Alright, Auntie."
Hathaway looked at this girl and finally understood why Oscar liked her.
As it transpired, the girl bore a striking resemblance to Haley. They had both exuded a gentle, fragile demeanor that elicited protective instincts from those around them.
