Chapter 349 If You Don't Want Him Dead, Stay Back

Barbara's fingers twitched, and she opened her tired eyes to see Pearl holding her hand tightly.

Pearl noticed and looked at her. "Barbara!"

"I'm so cold," Barbara whispered.

Pearl hugged her. "I'll keep you warm."

"Am I dying?" Barbara asked weakly. "I'm sorry. I couldn't find the antidote for you."

"It doesn't matter!" Pearl said. "Don't talk. The ambulance is here. You'll be fine."

Barbara's eyes were unfocused. "Don't be sad for me. We barely know each other. I did this for Jeffery. Living is hard, but now I don't have to struggle anymore."

Her life felt pointless, with no happiness and was always controlled by others.

Without a family, living all aone and unloved was meaningless.

"Now you can live well," Pearl urged. "Donald is caught, The Crimson Eclipse Society is gone. No one controls you now. You can live beautifully. Don't you love beauty? Didn't you want to get out? Don't give up!"

Pearl almost shouted.

She didn't want Barbara to lose hope.

As long as she was alive, there was a chance.

Barbara stared at Pearl, a faint smile on her lips. "Can I really live well?"

"You can!" Pearl wiped the blood off her face. "You'll be cherished and loved. You can be the cleanest, most beautiful girl. You're not alone anymore. You'll have friends and family. You won't be abandoned again!"

Barbara's tears fell.

Maybe this was the life she longed for, where she wasn't lonely and could be a normal person, not succumbing to darkness.

She wanted to be loved once since she had never been needed or truly loved.

The doctor came with a stretcher and placed it next to Barbara.

Barbara was very weak.

Pearl held her hand, feeling her faint breath.

But she didn't want to delay Barbara's treatment.

She made way for the doctors and nurses to lift her up.

Barbara still held Pearl's hand tightly, looking at her. "I really envy you, Pearl."

She envied Pearl for escaping the dark room, and being so positive.

"Barbara!" Pearl stood up. "I can protect you too!"

Barbara was stunned, then tears streamed down her face.

It made her both surprised and sad.

"I can take a beating," she said. "You look like a precious daughter from someone else's family. You can't handle it."

Pearl's eyes were red, feeling very sad inside.

Barbara was a bond of fate, the only girl who had protected her in the dark room.

There were many boys and girls in that dark room.

From a few years old to teenagers.

In that small room, there were daily fights for food. Some starved to death, some were beaten to death, and then thrown out.

It was extremely cruel.

Pearl remembered surviving thanks to Barbara's protection.

And Barbara had lived in that environment for over ten years. She was the only girl who survived.

Pearl couldn't put her sympathy for Barbara into words. So many people suffer in this world. Even being locked in that dark room seemed minor in comparison.

At least Pearl had warmth from family, which Barbara had never knew.

Barbara's situation made her incredibly sad.

Pearl was also carried away on another stretcher.

She and Barbara were in different vehicles. Through the window, she saw the bandits had been controlled, and the gunshots had stopped.

Police cars were arriving, and people were cleaning up the scene.

Donald, the leader, was caught. He had a black hood over his head, was handcuffed, limping, and injured.

Then, she saw Elijah and Nicholas rushing out, looking stern. But she didn't see Oscar.

Pearl had many doubts.

'Why isn't he here? Usually, Elijah and the others are with him.'

She thought, 'Maybe Oscar is rescuing Haley. He's focused on her, so he didn't bring them.'

A bitter smile crossed her lips.

'Why am I thinking about this now? Everyone would protect Oscar. He should be fine. I should worry about myself.'

Thanks to Barbara's cover, she wasn't hurt much. Just a few bruises. The baby was fine.

There were a dozen ambulances, showing the great loss from this operation. The wounded were being sent to the ambulances, which left as soon as they were full.

A soldier got into her ambulance.

He was a young boy, about eighteen, with tanned skin from years in the sun. He had a severe injury to his left eye, bleeding heavily.

The nurse bandaged his eye, but blood kept oozing out.

He was conscious, enduring the pain silently, his fingers digging into the bed, almost tearing the sheet.

Such a bloody scene scared Pearl.

She realized clearly that all this suffering happened in places she couldn't see.

Ten minutes ago, Oscar was lying on the ground, in great pain.

Haley tried to help him up but couldn't, her eyes full of tears.

She couldn't accept that Oscar had been poisoned or let him suffer like this.

She was extremely anxious, but she couldn't wait any longer. She wanted him to live, but not in such agony.

She wiped her tears and comforted him, "You'll be fine. I won't let you die, Oscar. I will find a way to save you!"

Looking at the tragic scene around, she shouted at Oscar's personal guards who had just subdued the bandits, "Why aren't you helping? Get him up and into the car!"

"How is Oscar?"

"He needs treatment now! Listen to me, get him into the car!" Haley said sternly.

They didn't hesitate and quickly lifted Oscar, one carrying him on his back while the other supported him as they ran outside.

They found the nearest car and carefully placed Oscar in the back seat.

Oscar's face was twisted in pain, his complexion turning bluish-purple. Cold sweat covered his forehead, and his entire body was trembling, looking extremely perilous.

After they got him in, she pushed them away and quickly sat in the driver's seat.

"Oscar!"

"If you don't want him to die, stay back!" Haley shouted angrily, also frantic. She locked the car doors, slammed her foot on the gas pedal, and sped off.
