Chapter 362 So It Was You Who Saved Me!

'Pregnancy's already tough. Pearl's belly's huge now, and I haven't stepped up as a dad.'

He didn't take care of her, leaving her to handle it alone. He felt guilty and owed her a lot.

Seeing his teary eyes, Pearl smiled and put her hand on his. "Isn't he doing fine in my belly? Pregnancy has its hassles, but it's a kind of happiness. I look forward to his arrival every day. Just thinking about it makes me happy."

Oscar said, "You've had it rough. I don't want you to suffer anymore."

Pearl smiled, "You think one kid's enough?"

Oscar gently replied, "Once the baby's born, you'll be in pain. I don't want you to go through that."

He'd learned about childbirth.

Ten months of pregnancy, the baby growing, and her belly getting more uncomfortable each day—it was a tough process.

Whether it was natural birth or a C-section, it was painful for women.

He couldn't stand seeing her in pain.

Pearl said, "Before I got pregnant, I thought giving birth was super painful. But now, I find it bearable. I feel more happiness than anything else."

She touched her belly and said, "Sometimes he moves, like we're connected. He responds to me, and I feel even closer to him."

"Really?" Oscar got interested. He squatted down and leaned against her belly. "Let me listen."

He wanted to feel it too.

As a first-time dad, he felt both nervous and excited.

Pearl said, "You seem excited too."

"Of course," Oscar said. "I'm really looking forward to it."

Pearl remembered what he said when he was drunk and teased, "I remember you said even if the baby wasn't yours, it didn't matter. You were willing to raise another man's child, weren't you?"

At first, unclear of his feelings to Pearl, Oscar couldn't accept it and wanted her to abort the baby.

But seeing Pearl in pain over losing the baby, he couldn't bear it.

This must be love.

So he felt nothing else mattered.

Even if the baby wasn't his, he could accept it.

As long as Pearl was with him, he could accept everything about her.

"Did I say that?" Oscar laughed. "Looks like I shouldn't talk too much when I'm drunk. You know everything about me now."

"Anyway, I already know. Honestly, I was surprised. I thought you'd make me abort it. I was scared when you found out, but now I have no worries. This baby is yours." Pearl looked at him sincerely, hoping he'd believe her. "I only have you."

She was still afraid Oscar wouldn't believe her.

Maybe because she'd been through so much, Pearl really wanted to prove the baby was his.

"I know," Oscar's eyes softened. "I know everything now. Didn't you say it before? I believe you, Pearl. After everything we've been through, I'll believe anything you say. I just regret not being a good husband or father."

"You can make it up to me," Pearl said. "You still have a chance."

Oscar looked at her lovingly.

He wanted to be with her forever, living a peaceful and happy life.

Even though he didn't know how much time he had left, he was determined to make Pearl happy for as long as he could.

Oscar paused, "He moved!"

Pearl felt it too. "See, I told you."

Oscar pressed his face against her belly again. "Did he feel me?"

Pearl looked down at Oscar. "Probably, he can feel you too. Even though he hasn't been born yet, he probably heard us talking."

Oscar was thrilled. It was a different feeling than before—the joy of becoming a father.

He kissed Pearl's belly, cherishing the moment.

Pearl patted Oscar's head. "You'll see him soon. You haven't spent much time with him yet, but you'll have plenty of time to bond after he's born."

Oscar smiled without saying a word.

He helped Pearl inside and into the bedroom.

Pearl was getting ready to take a bath and rest.

He prepared pajamas for her, brought them over, and helped her with the bath.

In the past, Pearl usually did these things for Oscar.

Now it was the other way around.

Pearl felt a bit shy, but considering they already had a child, she let Oscar experience the responsibilities of being a husband and father.

Oscar was meticulous—bathing her, drying her off. Though a bit clumsy, he was gentle and careful.

After the bath, he carried her to bed.

Then he quickly took a shower himself.

Oscar came out to be with her.

He lay on the bed, holding Pearl in his arms, letting her rest her head on his shoulder, and gently stroked her face, trying to help her fall asleep.

After all the fuss, she was tired.

Pearl opened her eyes wide and asked, "Don't you have anything else to ask me? Like about Magee?"

He hadn't asked about the baby either, which made her curious.

Oscar said, "I haven't found Magee, but Magee doesn't matter anymore. I just know that you belong to me now."

Pearl laughed. "Actually, Magee has always been you."

Oscar looked at her again. "What?"

"Did you really forget? You saved me." Pearl confessed. "Back in middle school, I was kidnapped, and the person who saved me was you."

Oscar was stunned, staring at her expectant eyes for a long time. He didn't expect the person Pearl was talking about to be him.

'The kidnapping incident never happened. Why did I appear in Pearl's life so coincidentally? Pearl didn't know that everything she experienced was a fantasy. And had I become the Magee in her fantasy?'

Seeing that he hadn't spoken for a long time, Pearl's eyes showed some disbelief. She asked, "What's wrong? Do you really forget?"

This was Pearl's most unforgettable memory.

It replayed in her mind thousands of times, and she remembered every detail clearly, so she didn't realize it was another Pearl's life.

And Magee had nothing to do with Oscar.

"Pearl." After everything that had happened, Oscar felt she could handle the disappointment of not having this memory. Besides, she needed to know the truth. "I've wanted to tell you for a long time. I've looked into it, and I think it's necessary to tell you that your memory is mistaken. I'm not Magee, and I never saved you. You were never kidnapped."

Upon hearing this, Pearl's eyes gradually dimmed, and there was a hint of shock and disbelief. "What do you mean? My memory is wrong?"
