Chapter 235 Did You Know the Meaning of Shame?

Mae was a bit taken aback to see Oscar, and tears started to well up in her eyes. "Mr. Brown, I finally get to see you."

Oscar looked up and saw Mae's tear-streaked face. Recognizing her as Mae from Haley's team, he stubbed out his cigarette and tossed it in the trash. "Is there no one left at the company?"

He had started an entertainment company and was the head honcho, but there was also an acting CEO to handle day-to-day stuff.

Mae said, "No matter how many people are at the company, Haley needs you. She's been ignoring your calls."

Oscar didn't want to hear more and frowned. "Is there anything else?"

Mae wiped her tears, but they kept coming. "Haley's old ailment is back. She had a shoot yesterday but had to cancel because of her hearing loss. Is she going deaf? How will she act now? She already had trouble singing, and now she can't even act. How will she handle this?"

Hearing this, Oscar's expression turned serious. "Has she completely lost her hearing?"

Mae nodded.

Oscar had found the best doctor to treat Haley's hearing. The doctor had assured him that with proper recovery, she'd be like a normal person. Her hearing had almost fully recovered before; it shouldn't have gotten worse.

Oscar hesitated for a moment and then said, "Take me to see her!"

Mae quickly led Oscar over.

Pearl was on the ninth floor, and Oscar went up to the eleventh floor to see Haley.

From outside the room, he could see Haley sitting on the bed, her hair a mess, her face pale, looking weak and huddled up.

Any man would find it hard to see her like this.

At the door, Mae started to speak again, "Mr. Brown, it wasn't Haley who asked me to call you. She didn't want to tell you, but I couldn't stand seeing her give up on treatment."

"She doesn't cry or make a fuss, but she can only rely on nutritional injections. She can't eat anything and vomits when she tries. How will she endure this?" Mae's voice choked up.

Oscar remained indifferent and simply opened the door.

Haley didn't react, indicating her ears were indeed a problem.

Oscar walked up to Haley.

Seeing a shadow, Haley moved slightly, her voice hoarse and tired. "Didn't I say I wanted to be alone for a while?"

Oscar didn't leave, so Haley looked up.

The moment she saw Oscar, her eyes showed some shock, her face pale, and she said excitedly, "Why are you here? Who told you? I don't want you here..."

She looked at Mae by the door. "Was it you? I'm already in such a state. Why did you tell him? I don't want anyone to know I can't hear; it will affect my career. No one will watch my movies anymore. Are you trying to ruin me?"

Mae shook her head. "I didn't."

Mae spoke, but Haley couldn't hear her and judged by Mae's lip movements. "I don't need you anymore. Get out and never be my assistant again!"

"Haley." Mae started crying again.

Haley also began to cry.

Oscar watched them cry, his eyes deep and saying nothing, his expression very cold.

Haley hugged her legs tightly again, as if trying to hide.

After they stopped crying, Oscar pulled Haley up. Seeing her tear-streaked face, he said coldly, "Are you sure you want to torment yourself like this?"

Haley's eyes were empty, and she remained silent.

Her silence made Oscar's expression even colder, and his words cut deep. "The doctor I found was top-notch. He said your hearing could recover. Why has it gotten worse to the point where you can't hear at all now?"

Haley's eyes wavered for a moment, then she forced a smile. "Oscar, what are you talking about? Don't be so cold, please? I'm scared. I'm already so scared!"

Haley's hands began to tremble.

Oscar, however, let go of her, his eyes filled with indifference. "If it weren't for your own antics, it wouldn't have affected your hearing. It seems your love for your career is a lie. You don't want your career; you just want to torment yourself."

"If the entertainment industry were that easy, anyone could reach your position. Since you don't cherish it, I should find someone who values themselves more to replace you!" Oscar's words were ruthless, regardless of whether she could hear them or not. He had to allocate his energy elsewhere.

Haley had risen to fame with Oscar's financial support. He could also make her fall into oblivion.

After speaking, Oscar decisively turned to leave.

Seeing his cold demeanor, Haley realized he was no longer as tender towards her as before. This made her more anxious, and she quickly embraced him from behind. "Oscar, don't leave!"

Outside, Pearl and Magdalen were walking on the eleventh floor, heading in this direction.

Magdalen was wiping her nose with a tissue and said, "I told you not to accompany me, but you wouldn't listen and even got out of bed."

"It's fine. The doctor said I could exercise a bit. A few steps are not strenuous." Pearl held onto Magdalen's arm. "I'm happy to see you."

Pearl leaned her head on Magdalen, becoming particularly clingy.

"Sinusitis is so uncomfortable. As soon as a hair touches my face, my nose itches. I still love cats so much, but I can't keep one. I have to see a doctor," Magdalen sighed. "Who can cure my sinusitis?"

"Just take some medicine. As long as it's not too serious, it won't affect you," Pearl comforted her.

Magdalen said, "I wish."

"Where is Oscar? Maybe he knows my sinusitis is acting up and went to get me some medicine," Magdalen mentioned casually. Oscar knew about Magdalen's minor health issues.

He had gotten her medicine before.

Hearing this, Pearl looked around. The otolaryngology department was at the end of the corridor. She started searching while moving in that direction.

Suddenly, she saw a ward door was open.

The scene inside was clearly visible.

A woman was hugging a man's waist, and that figure was so familiar.

When Pearl looked closely, she realized it was Haley, and the person she was hugging was Oscar!

Pearl's steps faltered, as if she had been filled with lead, unable to move forward at all.

The small spark of hope in Pearl's heart was instantly extinguished by a bucket of cold water.

Magdalen noticed Pearl's pause and followed her gaze.

This scene fell right into Magdalen's eyes!

Magdalen was furious. Her nose had been blocked, making it hard to breathe, but now it was completely clear with anger. "This woman is relentless. She must be doing this on purpose!"

With that, Magdalen's face turned cold, and she marched into the ward.

"Magdalen," Pearl called out, but Magdalen had already gone in!

Haley turned her head and saw Magdalen's cold face. Her own face suddenly turned pale, and she softly called out, "Magdalen."

Magdalen walked over and slapped Haley across the face. "How shameless can you be? Are you trying to seduce a married man? Did you know the meaning ofshame?"
