Chapter 381 Did He Ever Like Haley?
Zachary and Elijah were pretty tight, so she asked him first.
"Mr. Brown hasn't come back, and we don't know when he will," Zachary told her.
"Where did he go?" Pearl asked again.
"We're not sure."
It was like she hadn't asked at all.
It didn't help.
And when she needed company, he wasn't there.
Her anger had cooled a bit over time. If he just explained everything, she'd believe him.
'Why won't he just explain? Does Oscar not love me anymore? Even if he doesn't, he should at least be clear.'
She hated unresolved situations.
So she asked again, "Call Elijah and find out where they are and when Oscar will be back!"
"Okay, Ms. Harris." Zachary did as she asked.
Pearl wanted to keep some dignity, so she subtly asked about Oscar's whereabouts.
Zachary called Elijah.
Pearl listened as Zachary asked questions. After the call, he told her, "Ms. Harris, Oscar probably won't be back tonight."
"Did you ask where he is?"
"Elijah didn't say."
Pearl pressed her lips together, feeling blocked.
Oscar didn't want to tell her where he was.
Haley had just been released, and now he was missing, not even answering his phone.
'What on earth is he doing!'
Pearl felt a mix of disappointment and anger; she hated the uncertainty.
Seeing Pearl heading out, Zachary asked, "Ms. Harris, where are you going?"
Pearl's face was cold and displeased. "He won't say where he is, so where I go has nothing to do with him!"
"Ms. Harris, it's very late. If you leave like this, we won't be able to explain to Oscar."
Pearl sneered. "Would he worry? I've had enough. If he doesn't want to be with me anymore, I'll grant him that. The child doesn't need him either!"
With that, Pearl insisted on leaving.
She was heavily pregnant, and being out so late was unsafe.
But she was too angry to think straight.
"Ms. Harris." They tried to stop her.
"Get out of my way!" Pearl shouted.
"It's too late. Why don't you go back and rest? We can talk about it tomorrow," Zachary tried to persuade her.
Pearl insisted, "Move aside! If you block me and harm me or the baby, it'll be even more troublesome."
This put Zachary in a tough spot.
They quickly called Oscar to inform him.
To buy time, Zachary continued, "Ms. Harris, I've already called him. I'm sure Oscar will be back soon. Why don't you wait a bit longer?"
This made Pearl even more upset. "Isn't he always busy? How come he's suddenly not busy when I want to leave? These are just excuses. If he doesn't feel the need to share everything with me, I won't stay here."
Nothing would satisfy Pearl.
'He was always busy with work, rarely came home at night, and never shared his whereabouts. He had no sense of responsibility as a husband. If he could rush back now, it would only mean he had been avoiding me.'
Since he didn't want to see her, why should she stay here?
This wasn't even her home.
"You are Oscar's wife. It is your home. Just half an hour, if Oscar doesn't show up in half an hour, you can leave then." He tried every way to make Pearl stay.
Pearl's expression didn't soften at all; she felt heartbroken by Oscar's neglect.
"I'm not leaving because he's not coming back." Pearl was heartbroken. After all these years with Oscar, she'd had enough of his distrust, his on-and-off attitude, and his neglect.
She felt she forgave him too easily.
Oscar never cherished her.
Since that was the case, she shouldn't hold onto any more illusions.
"Ms. Harris, please wait a bit longer," Zachary almost begged.
Pearl had lost her patience. No matter what they said, she insisted on leaving.
When they tried to stop her, she walked past them with her pregnant belly.
They didn't dare to stop her, so Pearl eventually left.
To keep her safe, they still followed her to prevent any danger.
Pearl knew she couldn't walk back, so she called someone to pick her up.
She decided to go home.
In less than ten minutes, Janetta drove over.
"Pearl, what's wrong? You just made up a few days ago, and now you want to leave again?" Janetta found it strange. She was sure Oscar loved her, but she didn't expect things to turn out like this so soon after they reconciled.
Pearl opened the car door and got in, leaving them behind. "Just get me out of here first. I'll explain everything later."
Right now, seeing anyone related to Oscar made Pearl feel upset.
The deeper the love, the deeper the hate. Now, she truly understood this.
Janetta had no choice but to start the car and leave.
On the way, Pearl took a long time to adjust her emotions. She was afraid that if she thought too much, she would start crying.
After calming down, she said, "Haley was released by Oscar."
"What?" Janetta was shocked. "That can't be. Haley harmed you so much. She might have even harmed you when you were a child. Someone like her should be in prison. Why would he do that? He's a soldier, who knows the law. This is harboring a criminal!"
Pearl said, "I asked him, and he admitted it."
Then, she gave a bitter smile and looked at Janetta. "Do you think he couldn't bear it? He loved her before, so now he can't forget her and can't stand to see her suffer, so he harbors her?"
This was a knot in Pearl's heart.
She couldn't accept that he still had someone else in his heart.
Janetta thought for a moment but felt something was off.
Pearl was in the middle of it and immersed in her emotions, so she naturally couldn't see things clearly.
Having seen Oscar go to great lengths for Pearl, Janetta thought there might be another reason. "Did Oscar ever admit to loving Haley?"
"No," Pearl said flatly. "But it's no secret. Many people were saying that Oscar liked Haley back then."
"What if it was just a rumor?" Janetta explained while driving. "Haley would do anything to achieve her goals. There's nothing she wouldn't do. Maybe they never had a relationship."
"They did," Pearl said with certainty. "He called out Haley's name when he was drunk."
She was so sure because Oscar had called out Haley's name while drunk and making love to her.
She remembered clearly how this child came to be, and it was a barrier she couldn't overcome.
"I don't understand either," Janetta was stumped.
"Take me to my parents' house."
Pearl couldn't get over this hurdle, but there was another one she had to face, which was the matter her parents wanted to hide.
'Why did my parents lie to me and hide my past?'
