Chapter 202 Could It Be One of Them
Janetta's eyes turned red as she listened to these words. She had never felt so sorry for Pearl before.
Janetta wouldn't bear it if she was to face it all alone.
How unfortunate must one be to end up in a marriage like Pearl's?
Janetta hugged her, patting her back with sympathy. "You still have me; everything will be alright."
Pearl leaned on Janetta's shoulder, feeling relieved.
Fortunately, Pearl was not left with nothing.
Pearl still had many things.
She just couldn't have Oscar anymore.
Pearl was discharged from the hospital after finishing her IV drip.
The doctor only advised Pearl not to overexert herself and to avoid strenuous activities; there was nothing major.
Janetta accompanied her.
"Do you want to go back?" Janetta asked her.
Pearl thought for a moment and then decided. "Let's go back."
Janetta helped Pearl into the car. As she drove, she said, "Alright, keep in touch. If you need my help, just let me know."
"Book two tickets to Francina for me," Pearl said.
To Francina?
Janetta looked at her in confusion and asked, "Even now, you still want to go to Francina with Oscar?"
Pearl replied, "Book them, and you'll understand."
Oscar glanced at his watch; it was still not time to get off work.
He walked towards the company.
Parking the car in the underground garage, he took the elevator up.
At the elevator door, he heard a commotion.
Oscar noticed that everyone seemed a bit panicked. As he stepped in, he saw Lily with red eyes. Seeing him, she looked as if she had seen a savior. "Mr. Brown, you're finally back."
"What happened?" Oscar asked calmly.
Lily's tears fell instantly, almost breaking down. "Mr. Brown, Pearl is missing. She and Aurora fell into the sea!"
Queenie was at the hospital, while Lily had come back to wait for Oscar to inform him of the news as soon as possible.
Upon hearing this, Oscar panicked immediately. His subordinates were trembling as he walked out. "Why didn't you tell me sooner?"
"Your phone was off; we couldn't find you," Lily followed him, almost choking on her sobs. "Aurora has been sent to the hospital and is in a coma. But Pearl hasn't been found."
Oscar's pupils contracted slightly, and he said, "Weren't you following Pearl? How did she fall into the sea?"
He got into the car, and Lily followed, crying almost to the point of choking. "Mr. Brown, you weren't here. The Johnson Group was pressing for inspection, so Pearl went. Queenie and I went busy, so we left Pearl. It was an accident..."
Lily couldn't help but sob.
Lily had never encountered such a situation before. Pearl had been being missing for so long. She was very worried.
Oscar felt anxious. He slammed the steering wheel in frustration. "Stop crying, she will be fine!"
He drove quickly, speeding all the way and running countless red lights.
Upon reaching the dock, the accident scene was still set up, with no one working but participating in the search.
The nearby sea was relatively shallow, with boats and rescue personnel present.
"Pearl!" Oscar got out of the car and ran towards the shore.
Blake Harrison, who was at the shore, stopped Oscar. "Mr. Brown, we are doing our best to search. Please stay calm."
Oscar's eyes were filled with panic as he asked, "How long has it been since she fell in? Is there any hope of survival? Pearl..."
Oscar couldn't finish his sentence, filled with fear and disbelief.
He had only been gone for a short while, and Pearl had already had an accident.
He thought he shouldn't left.
If he had been here, would Pearl have fallen into the sea?
"Mr. Brown, we haven't found Pearl . The wind is strong today, and the waves are high. It's very likely she was swept away, making survival chances very slim."
Upon hearing this news, Oscar could no longer accept it; it felt like a knife stabbing into his heart.
He grabbed Blake, coldly questioning, "What did you say? Pearl can't be dead!"
Blake tried to calm him down. "Mr. Brown, I know you're very anxious, but you need to stay calm. Actually, not finding Pearl could be a good sign. She might have been rescued in time. We have to think this way; we don't want anything bad to happen to Pearl."
"Yes, she might have been rescued."
Oscar dared not think of the worst-case scenario. He had never imagined Pearl leaving his side in such a manner.
Pearl couldn't be dead.
"Many fishing boats were coming ashore today. I heard they rescued several people. We don't know if Pearl was among them." Blake speculated, trying to comfort Oscar and prevent him from getting too agitated.
One must always think positively.
Even if things turn out badly, one cannot determine life or death without seeing the body.
Oscar looked at the sea, as if the sky and the sea had both turned black.
Oscar still couldn't believe it. Pearl was still in this cold sea; she would definitely be rescued.
Oscar wanted to believe there was hope for Pearl's survival, so he asked, "Which hospital were the rescued people taken to today?"
"I asked the fishermen earlier; they weren't sure. If it were me, I would have taken them to the nearest hospital," Lily replied.
Oscar was very anxious now and couldn't wait any longer.
He dispatched a team to investigate while personally taking the initiative to visit each hospital in search of her.
Pearl's belongings were all in the car. Before she fell into the sea, she had no means of contact with her.
They could only rely on manpower.
The search continued well into the evening.
"We've checked; some were hospitalized, some left the hospital, and two had no identification, so they weren't registered. Pearl didn't bring anything with her; we don't know if she could be one of them."
Oscar called home, but they said Pearl hadn't returned.
Oscar had asked everyone, except Janetta, because Janetta's phone couldn't be reached.
Oscar frowned, deep in thought.
Now it was a matter of life and death for Pearl.
He hoped Janetta's phone was unreachable because Pearl was with her.
At least that way, she would still be alive.
"Mr. Brown, Queenie called. Aurora is still in a coma. Her parents have arrived and are demanding an explanation from us!" Lily had just finished a call.
Oscar clenched his fists, a cold glint in his eyes at the mention of this matter. "Let's go there first."
Lily hesitated for a moment and then said, "Mr. Brown, don't you think there's something fishy about this? Just when Queenie and I were called away, Pearl and Aurora had an accident. Now, Pearl is missing, and Aurora has become the victim, claiming Pearl tried to harm her and then ran away. I don't believe it at all!"
This put all the blame on Pearl.
Lily was the first to be unwilling.
She felt very sorry for Pearl.
Oscar remained silent, focusing on driving, but his eyes were cold.
Not to mention Pearl pushing Aurora into the sea, even if Pearl suffered the slightest harm, he would make the Johnson Group pay the price they deserved!
At the hospital, Aurora was still in a coma, in the ICU.
Her parents, Zoey and Noah, had rushed back from abroad upon hearing the news.
