Chapter 591 Wanting a Daughter
Oscar's lips twisted into a smirk. "So what? You think if I say sorry and pay up, everything's cool? Otherwise, you'll come after me and I'll have to deal with the fallout?"
These folks had been in the political game for ages; they've seen all kinds.
No way they'd be scared off by Oscar's attitude. "Glad you get it. Makes things easier."
Oscar had to own up to what he did!
But there was no way Oscar was gonna let himself be pushed around, especially by someone throwing their weight around.
Since they came at him, he had to hit back.
Oscar made a call, and someone from the Department of Justice showed up. After digging into that spoiled brat's background, they found the dirt.
Turned out, Floyd was using Christopher to boost his own rep, thinking he could score big in the entertainment biz.
And that cash? Totally dirty.
The kicker was, that spoiled brat had been up to no good, riding on his dad and uncle's coattails.
Oscar's move? Total takedown.
After the call, Oscar had to head over to Hunter's place. So, Pearl had to stay home, but luckily, Evans and Kittie were around.
Oscar asked them, "Can you guys keep an eye on Pearl for a few days? I've got some stuff to handle."
Evans and Kittie had seen the drama between Oscar and these people, realizing that Oscar and Pearl never seemed to catch a break.
Evans didn't want Pearl's future to be one mess after another.
So, he suggested, "Pearl, why don't you and Oscar think about moving to the countryside? It's quiet there, no one to bother you."
Pearl got what Evans was saying. But Oscar had to run the Brown Group, and Christopher needed to go to school in the city.
Moving to the countryside might mess with Christopher's education.
Sure, they could get a tutor, but a kid should enjoy learning with friends.
"Dad, these problems are just for now. We can handle them, so don't worry," Pearl said, sticking to her usual way of talking to them.
What Oscar had just said was also on her mind.
Pearl held their hands, saying, "Mom, Dad, can you stay a bit longer? Every visit, you're in and out so quick, especially like at the wedding. This time, let's hang out and see if we can find something you like in Willow Creek. You haven't really gotten to know RavenWing. I was thinking he could give you a check-up and some supplements."
Early check-ups could catch things early.
Evans waved it off. "Your mom and I are fine. But you!"
He looked at Pearl, concern etched on his face. Taking her hand, he said, "You and Oscar are in a spot that makes people jealous. You gotta take care of yourselves and the kid. Christopher's health isn't great. I'm always worried about you two."
"Why don't you come stay with us for a bit?" Kittie suggested.
Evans chimed in, "Pearl's got her own family now. If she comes with us, what about Christopher? Oscar wouldn't let her go alone."
Kittie shrugged. "What's the big deal? They can come too."
Kittie's idea was nice, but it wasn't just up to them.
Evans said, "It still depends on whether Oscar's cool with it."
Kittie frowned. "Just because they're married doesn't mean Pearl's cut off from us. She's not Oscar's property."
Kittie thought to herself, 'Pearl has her own life and the freedom to make her own choices, even after tying the knot.'
Evans sighed, "Now's not the time to argue. What matters is what Pearl wants."
Pearl said, "If I go with you, it'll be a hassle. I'm pregnant, and my appetite's all over the place. Just hang out here for a few days. I'll take you back home later."
"It's not about being a hassle. It's just a short trip, no biggie," said Kittie.
Pearl suggested, "Why don't you stay here for a while, and when Christopher's on break, we'll go back together."
It was Tuesday, and Christopher would be on break by Friday.
But Evans grumbled, "Breaks? You seem to have plenty of time to let Christopher go on shows."
Evans thought kids should focus on studying. Even though Christopher was still in kindergarten, he believed in starting early.
Pearl felt awkward. "Dad, that's not what I meant. I just want you to stay a few more days. I'll have the servants prepare some food."
Though Pearl wasn't Evans' biological daughter, he'd always treated her like his own. He knew what she meant.
"Alright, we'll do it your way. No more arguing," Evan said.
"Okay."
Evans and Kittie stayed, and Christopher was thrilled.
RavenWing, following Pearl's instructions, gave Evans and Kittie a check-up. "Nothing major, but you need to rest."
Pearl felt relieved hearing that.
Evans and Kittie thought Christopher was too skinny. "Why is Christopher still so slim? Why don't we take him with us and beef him up a bit?"
Pearl hadn't even agreed to let RavenWing take Christopher back to Eldorians, so she wasn't about to let Evans and Kittie take him.
She responded, "We've been giving him all the necessary supplements. He just doesn't gain weight. But don't worry, I'll take good care of him and try to plump him up this year."
Evans and Kittie trusted Pearl's promise.
After all, she was Christopher's mom.
Kittie sighed, "When you had Christopher, I didn't come to help. This time, no matter what, I'm taking care of you! If this one's a girl, that'd be amazing!"
Pearl instinctively touched her belly. "I want a daughter too!"
