Chapter 830 Favoring One Over Another

Saskia paid the fare and hopped out of the cab.

"Thanks, I'll get off here."

She made a beeline for the car.

Nathaniel heard a knock on the window and looked up. It was Saskia, tapping on the glass.

He rolled down the window. "Saskia, unlock the door."

Nathaniel's eyes flickered, and he reached over to unlock the door.

Saskia slid in quickly. "Why'd you come here alone without telling me? You know Benjamin's still in school."

"I just wanted to check things out."

"Marcus already filled me in."

Nathaniel's lips twisted into a bitter, self-mocking smile. "I don't need anyone to tell me who did this."

He knew it had to be Robbie. Robbie was the only one with the clout to stop him from becoming a lawyer.

Nathaniel didn't know whether to feel relieved or sad.

Robbie undoubtedly had high expectations for him. But because of this, he was dissatisfied with Nathaniel being just a lawyer. He wanted Nathaniel to be like him, to run the Egan Group and control the company.

"I was thinking about visiting him in the hospital, but reality hit me hard."

"It's my fault." Saskia felt both heartache and guilt. "If I hadn't persuaded you, you wouldn't be in this situation."

"It's not your fault. It's mine." Nathaniel's voice was calm.

He had been too confident.

Saskia wasn't pleased with Nathaniel's indifferent tone. On the contrary, the more detached he was, the more it pained her.

She knew how much he was suffering.

If she imagined herself in Nathaniel's shoes, with her father treating her like this, she would feel suffocated just thinking about it.

"I'm here with you." Saskia gently hugged him, just like that night, using her warmth to comfort him.

Nathaniel held her hand. "Driver, take us to the hospital."

Nathaniel's words surprised both of them.

Seeing her astonished expression, Nathaniel's lips curled in a sarcastic smile. "He gave me such a big gift. I can't just ignore it. I have to go see him."

Saskia remained silent, letting her actions speak for her.

She would accompany him.

Robbie's hospital room was in a luxurious suite. Though he was ill, he was being well taken care of.

Especially since Robbie had worked hard for most of his life, and recently, he had handed over most of the work to Nathaniel.

He even looked healthier.

A caregiver was cleaning the room.

Nathaniel arrived at this moment, bursting in with the door slamming against the wall.

Robbie frowned and looked over, looking displeased. "Nathaniel, what are you doing? I've been sick for days, and you haven't checked on me once. Now you come and act like this?"

Nathaniel's lips twisted. "I thought this was enough."

"Do you even respect me as your father?"

"Mr. Robbie Egan, we have some questions for you."

Seeing the confrontation about to escalate, Saskia intervened to defuse the tension.

Robbie glanced at her but still didn't like her. "You brought her here again? Do you know she's not part of the Egan family yet?"

Robbie's hospital room was kept secret.

If the media found out, it wouldn't be long before a crowd gathered at the door. It would be impossible for Robbie to have a peaceful recovery, and it might even worsen his condition.

So Robbie was furious that Nathaniel had brought an outsider, Saskia.

"Do old people generally have poor memory? I told you last time, Saskia isn't an outsider." Nathaniel retorted.

Robbie was so angry he almost jumped out of bed. "What did you say?"

Nathaniel snorted.

It was as if he was saying, 'Not only is your memory bad, but your hearing is too.'

It seemed harmless, but it was deeply insulting.

Robbie's face turned pale with anger, clutching his chest and struggling to breathe. "How did I end up with such a disappointing son..."

Nathaniel's pupils contracted.

Saskia quickly realized Robbie was having an episode and pressed the call button for help.

The nurse arrived promptly, calming Robbie down and advising them, "The patient needs rest and can't be overly emotional."

Nathaniel lowered his eyes, lost in thought.

Saskia smiled at the nurse. "We understand. Thank you."

After the nurse left, Robbie lay in bed, glaring at them with a cold smile. "You almost killed me, you ungrateful son."

"The law firm called me," Nathaniel suddenly spoke.

Robbie's face showed a fleeting moment of guilt, but Nathaniel caught it.

Nathaniel felt even more ridiculous.

Saskia was also in disbelief.

It really was Robbie!

"Mr. Robbie Egan, why would you do that? Nathaniel has been working tirelessly at the company, never slacking off for a single day. He even had a high fever recently, and as soon as it broke, he went back to work."

"What did he do wrong for you to treat him like this?"

Robbie's eyes darkened, but he was visibly moved when he heard Nathaniel had been sick.

Yet he still said, "It's his duty. Who else can take my place in the future?"

Saskia couldn't agree, just because of this..."Isn't there someone else? Who said you only have one son?" Nathaniel's eyes flashed with sarcasm.

Robbie's face fell, thinking of something. "You want your brother to take over?"

"He's your son too. If I can do it, why can't he? Dad, you should be fair."

"Your brother can't inherit the company. He is..."

Robbie was so angry he almost revealed the truth.

But even if he didn't say it, Nathaniel had already sensed it. "The illegitimate son you acknowledged also has inheritance rights. We're both your sons. Don't favor one over the other."

Robbie's face turned pale with anger.

Saskia thought that if Robbie weren't so well-mannered, he might have cursed Nathaniel out.

Robbie pointed at him, gasping for breath. "Get out!"

"If you don't want to see me, I'll leave." Nathaniel had no intention of staying. He had said what he needed to say.

Robbie had deceived him.

Now he had retaliated, and it was even.

As they left the hospital room, they ran into someone.

The person saw them from a distance, put away his flashy smile, and walked over. The buttons on his black leather jacket gleamed coldly. "Nathaniel, and this must be your girlfriend. You came to see Dad too?"
