Chapter 398 A Dream

Harold was still at the Brown Group, swamped with work since Oscar was away.

When Oscar's number popped up on his phone, he quickly answered, "Mr. Brown."

There was some static; Oscar's signal was weak.

Gunfights were common in Eldorians.

Oscar had been toughing it out there for days.

"Harold, how's she doing?" Oscar's voice finally came through.

Oscar always worried about Pearl the most.

Harold replied, "Ms. Harris is cooperating with her recovery. She's been hanging out with friends and learning combat skills from Barbara at home."

But before he could finish, the call dropped.

Harold tried calling back but got a mechanical female voice: "The number you have dialed is temporarily out of service. Please try again later."

No signal.

Harold gripped his phone, looking worried.

He felt uneasy but decided to follow Oscar's instructions.

Oscar had been in Eldorians for almost half a month, still hadn't found Adrian, and hadn't entered the main city.

In the distance, a missile explosion lit up the sky.

Elijah and Nicholas stood on a broken wall, with Elijah holding an antenna.

The area had lost power and water.

Elijah fell off the wall, breaking the antenna.

Nicholas shook his head. "The missile hasn't even hit, and you're already down?"

"Shut up!" Elijah snapped. "Even if the missile comes, I'm not afraid. Have you ever seen me chicken out?"

Nicholas smiled. True, he hadn't never done that.

Since day one with Oscar, they'd been ordered to join the war in the southern Eldorians.

Though they'd repelled nearby enemies, Eldorians, rich in resources and a southern gold mine, was still a hot spot.

Oscar's low voice broke Nicholas's thoughts. "We need to fix the communication and contact the troops ASAP."

"Yes," Nicholas and Elijah replied together.

Oscar said nothing more, staring at the distant battlefield, thinking of Pearl.

The country came first.

He had pledged to his country and needed to fight. Plus, the poison in his body wasn't cured, and Adrian was still missing.

He had to protect Eldorians first, then find its leader.

Pearl hadn't slept all night.

She lay in bed, staring at the ceiling, thinking of Oscar and the baby.

She didn't believe her child was stillborn, after all, she had felt the child's presence so clearly. She didn't know how to accept it. After waking up, she hadn't even seen the child.

Before the baby was born, Pearl had downloaded pregnancy apps that sent daily notifications. Even now, they sent baby pictures and tips on feeding and care.

She still checked these apps every day, clinging to hope.

Suddenly, there was a knock on the door.

"Come in," Pearl said automatically.

Barbara walked in.

She had gone downstairs for water and noticed Pearl's light was still on. She guessed Pearl hadn't slept.

"Why are you still up? The trip from B Port to Eldorians takes over 20 hours. If you don't sleep, you won't make it."

Even with first-class tickets, it was still cramped compared to a bed.

Barbara always worried about Pearl's health.

Pearl let out a bitter laugh.

She couldn't sleep.

She knew how long the flight was and how tough it was in Eldorians. She also knew this trip might mean she wouldn't come back, but she wasn't afraid because Oscar was there.

Barbara saw what was on Pearl's phone screen.

Her heart ached.

The baby had been gone for days, but Pearl hadn't forgotten. Barbara didn't know how to comfort her.

"Pearl." Barbara hugged her, patting her back, just like Pearl had done for her in The Crimson Eclipse Society.

"I know. I won't back down, and I won't be afraid," Pearl said firmly.

That night, Barbara stayed by Pearl's side.

Pearl lay in bed, still unable to sleep.

The next morning, Barbara took Pearl to the international airport. They checked in and boarded the plane.

By the time Harold found out they had tickets to Eldorians, Pearl and Barbara were already on the plane.

They couldn't turn back.

B Port was different from their country, and the civil aviation authority wouldn't listen to orders from their country. Harold could only anxiously call Oscar, but his phone was still out of service.

Pearl had a dream on the plane.

She dreamed of Elijah and Nicholas, both looking serious, one holding Oscar's clothes and the other a black box.

They walked towards her, looking deeply sorrowful.

"Ms. Harris, Oscar has sacrificed himself."

"Nonsense!" Pearl shouted, then suddenly woke up.

She realized she was on the plane. It had just been a dream, but it felt too real.

"Pearl, are you okay?" Barbara asked, startled by Pearl's pale face.

Pearl's forehead was covered in sweat.

She was still in shock, breathing heavily.

The dream had been too real.

She trembled. "I just dreamed of Nicholas and Elijah, and they were holding a black box."

Pearl couldn't say another word.

Barbara pulled her into her arms, patting her back. "Pearl, don't be afraid. It's just a dream. Dreams are the opposite of reality. Oscar is fine."

Pearl didn't say anything.

She hoped Oscar was fine but was also afraid he wasn't.

Barbara kept talking to her, trying to keep her distracted until the plane finally landed, nearly thirty hours later, in a small country on the outskirts of Eldorians.
