Chapter 710 Can't Make the Same Mistake Again

"Hold up a sec," Desiree suddenly stopped. "I need to check out."

"No worries, I booked the room last night under my name. Let's just head to the hospital, and I'll take care of everything else," Daryl quickly reassured her.

As they were leaving, Harold showed up. He was carrying breakfast from a place known for its long lines and amazing food. He had waited a good half hour to get it. But he didn't mind. If Desiree liked it, he'd wait even longer.

"Sir," the receptionist called out to him.

She looked at Harold with pity. He had gone out early to get breakfast, only to find his girlfriend had left with another guy. Now he was standing there with the breakfast in his hands.

She said, "Your girlfriend already left. Would you like to check out?"

"Yeah, let's check out," Harold said, a bit stunned.

So Desiree had woken up and left quietly. Maybe she didn't know how to face him yet. It was probably best to give each other some space. After checking out, Harold left the hotel too.

Little did he know, he had been impersonated.

Daryl took Desiree to the hospital for a check-up. The results were clear: she was perfectly healthy.

But she was upset the whole time, tears streaming down her face.

"Desiree, does being with me make you this sad? Do you hate me that much?" Daryl's eyes were red as he drove her home.

Every time he thought of Harold, his heart ached with a mix of bitterness and anger. In his mind, Desiree was already his wife. What Harold did felt like a betrayal.

Desiree shook her head. "I don't hate you. I just can't accept this. I only see you as a friend."

And now she had been intimate with a friend.

Daryl hated hearing her say that. He grabbed her hand, holding it tightly. Instinctively, Desiree pulled away, every fiber of her being resisting his touch.

"But given the situation, I have to take responsibility. Marry me, Desiree. We know each other well, and our parents like each other. We're a perfect match," Daryl proposed.

He was desperate to settle things. Even if Desiree found out the truth about last night and wanted a divorce, he wouldn't agree.

Desiree shook her head again. "I've told you before, I don't want to get married right now."

"But that was before. Now things are different. We were intimate last night. If we don't get married, wouldn't that be dishonoring you?" Daryl insisted.

"But Daryl, just because we were intimate doesn't mean we have to get married. We made a mistake once, and we can't make another one. I can't just go along with it," Desiree said firmly.

She couldn't jump into another marriage right after a divorce, and she definitely didn't want to be stuck with Daryl forever.

Even though they had slept together under the influence of drugs last night, she had thought of Harold the whole time. Now that she was fully awake, she resisted any physical contact with Daryl, even just holding his hand.

Daryl was disappointed but not ready to give up. "Think it over, Desiree. There's no rush."

If she still wouldn't agree, he would turn to Liam and Tessa, who were so supportive of him and wanted to see them together. They would definitely join forces to persuade Desiree.

Desiree stayed silent. No matter how long she thought about it, she would never agree to marry Daryl.

Meanwhile, Pearl hadn't contacted Desiree since she left.

During this time, Oscar had approached Harold, wanting to offer him a project. But Harold was overwhelmed with family matters and could barely keep his company running, let alone take on new projects.

Not wanting to hold Oscar back, he was honest about it. Oscar, understanding the gravity of Harold's situation, chose to shelve the project for the time being, "Take care of your family first. If you need any help, just let me know. Once you've sorted everything out, I'll have a new project for you."

The Brown Group, with its extensive array of business ventures, could afford to forgo a single project.

Harold was very grateful to Oscar, who had helped him a lot.

But when it came to feelings, only the person involved truly understood. Sometimes, well-meaning interference only served to complicate matters further.

He wanted to reconcile with Desiree after addressing the issues that had pushed them apart; rushing back together would only face another heartbreak.

Oscar understood and didn't say much more. He spent most of his time with Pearl and their two kids, picking up Christopher from school together every evening.

"Dad, Mom, I got a big red flower today. Look!" Christopher ran towards them excitedly, proudly showing off the red flower on his chest.

Pearl picked him up and kissed him on the cheek. "Christopher, you're amazing! Tell me, how did you get the flower?"

"The kindergarten had a hygiene contest, and I did the best job. The teacher gave me the flower and asked me to teach others how to make their beds," Christopher said proudly, standing tall. "So, can I have KFC again tonight?"

"No, I promised you once a month, and it's not next month yet. But I'll make you a burger tonight," Pearl said, putting him in the car and fastening his seatbelt.

Oscar took the wheel.

Christopher was very curious. "Mom, you're going to make me a burger? You can do that?"

"Christopher, I can do a lot of things, not just that." Pearl laughed.

Since becoming a mom, she discovered she had many skills. While the kids were learning, so were the parents.

"Mom, can you sing?" Christopher's eyes lit up.
