Chapter 478 The Pretend Becomes Real

Oscar let go of her and started to back away. Pearl tried to grab him, but he moved too fast, almost turning see-through.

"Oscar! You jerk!" Pearl shouted, waking up suddenly. Tears covered her face.

Jeffery and Louis walked in. Seeing her tears, they knew what was up. Louis went to her first, sitting by the bed and holding her hand. "Carol, it was just a nightmare. Come back to Eldorians with me."

Oscar had been gone for days, and Pearl was alone. They were worried, so RavenWing had ordered them to bring her back.

Pearl shook her head. "I'm not going back. My name is Pearl, not Carol. I'm from Willow Creek in Tranquiloria, not Eldorians."

She pushed Louis's hand away, refusing to accept it. This hurt Louis. He thought she'd come around by now, but she was still stubborn.

Louis remembered their close bond as kids. He didn't want to upset her, but she was always like this.

"Pearl, everyone gets tricked sometimes. Even if you don't want to admit it, we're your family. You might hate us, but give us a chance to fix things," Louis said seriously, trying to take her hand again. She pulled away.

Pearl gave a bitter smile. "Fix things? How did I end up from Eldorians to Willow Creek? And the poison in me and Oscar—was that all Kevin's doing?"

She thought, 'I don't buy that RavenWing didn't know about the Eldorians' brutal actions.'

"You think RavenWing did this? But he..."

"Don't talk to me about this. Kevin is also experimenting, learning from RavenWing," Pearl cut him off angrily.

Kevin wasn't just a copycat; he wanted to surpass RavenWing and become the king of Eldorians. RavenWing was just dodging blame.

Pearl's eyes were firm. "I don't want any ties with Eldorians. I'm not RavenWing's daughter. Eldorians and Tranquiloria are enemies. Don't come looking for me again!"

Louis gave Jeffery a look, signaling him to knock Pearl out and take her away. But even though Oscar was dead, he had told everyone to treat Pearl with respect.

Jeffery couldn't bring himself to hurt Pearl, especially with Barbara outside the tent. Nicholas and Elijah were on standby, so Louis couldn't force her to leave.

Jeffery didn't act and just gave Louis a look. Louis got the hint and backed off.

He sighed and tried a different approach. "Pearl, if you won't come with me, how about I stay? Can you at least spend some time with RavenWing?"

Louis hoped some time with RavenWing might change her mind, but Pearl just wanted to cut all ties with Eldorians.

Before Oscar's incident, she might have negotiated for the antidote, but now everything was different.

Thinking of Oscar made her heart ache.

"If you don't want trouble, leave," Pearl said, pointing outside the tent.

Louis hesitated but eventually left. Before going, he told her, "Pearl, I'll wait for you to come around."

He walked away without looking back, but Pearl knew she'd never change her mind.

After he left, Pearl glared at Jeffery. "So, because they promised to make you normal again, you're their lackey now?"

Jeffery had brought Louis in, and Pearl was furious.

Jeffery looked down. "Pearl, don't be mad. I just wanted to help. You don't have any family, and you're struggling. I thought reuniting with them might be good for you."

He looked guilty.

Pearl realized people are practical. Who wouldn't want to be normal again?

"I don't need you to think for me. If you've made a deal with them, I can help you," Pearl said softly.

She could pretend if it meant helping Jeffery.

But for Jeffery, going back to Eldorians was the best option now.

"If you can help me, that would be great," Jeffery said, a hint of joy in his eyes.

Pearl smiled lightly and said no more.

At the Presidential Palace in Serenea, Oscar lay on a huge bed.

Guards and royal servants bustled around him, and doctors were treating him.

Charles stood nearby, hands behind his back. "How is he?" he asked.

The doctor replied, "Mr. Stewart, his condition is very bad. The bullet nearly hit his heart."

The bullet missed his heart by a hair's breadth.

Though it missed a vital spot, Oscar had multiple gunshot wounds and poison in his body.

The doctor explained everything to Charles.

Charles demanded, "I don't care what it takes, save his life. If you fail, you'll all pay with your lives!"

"Yes, sir!" The entire Presidential Palace sprang into action.

Meanwhile, at the Brown family, Hathaway and Alfonso heard about Oscar's supposed death and Hathaway blamed Pearl.

She investigated and contacted Nicholas. "I want to speak with Pearl right now!"
