Chapter 660 You've Had a Tough Time Lately

Desiree went quiet.

She shut her eyes. "I need some time alone."

Harold respected her space.

Meanwhile, over at Oscar's place...

Oscar had an early shift today.

With Harold and Desiree off doing their own thing, the Brown Group was all on him, and he was drowning in work.

Pearl felt for him, handling all the home stuff solo. The kids were angels—Emily didn't cry, and Christopher was super helpful.

But Oscar didn't want this to be the norm. He wanted more family time, not just work. Today, he got a rare break and rushed home.

Of course, he grabbed some gifts on the way.

Soon, he pulled up to the house and knocked on the door, gifts in hand.

"Who is it?" Pearl was in the living room with Emily. She hurried to the door.

There was Oscar, holding a bouquet.

"Why are you home so early, and with flowers?" Pearl grinned. "We've been married forever."

"Even after forever, we need some romance." Oscar handed her the flowers.

He'd picked each one himself, all bright and full of love.

Hearing the commotion, Christopher ran over. "Daddy, hug!"

Oscar dropped the bags and scooped him up, spinning him around before setting him down. "I got you a gift. Check it out."

"I'll love anything you give me, Daddy," Christopher said without a second thought.

Then he saw the latest toy in Oscar's hand—the one he wanted most!

He hadn't even told Pearl or Oscar, and Oscar had already gotten it.

He hugged the toy tight. "Daddy, I love you so much. This is the best gift ever."

"As long as you like it. I got something for Emily too. Everyone gets a gift." Oscar pulled out two dolls from the bag.

Emily laughed happily. She couldn't talk yet, but her smile said it all.

Oscar picked her up and kissed her cheek. She was so cute, it was impossible not to love her.

He felt blessed with such a happy family, a loving wife, and adorable kids. There was no greater joy.

He held Emily until she got sleepy, then reluctantly put her down.

"What do you want for dinner? I'll start cooking," Pearl asked softly.

Oscar shook his head.

He'd been swamped at work, but now that he was home, Pearl didn't need to cook.

"You hang out with the kids. I'll handle dinner." He headed to the kitchen, put on an apron, and got to work.

Emily only drank milk, so it was just three of them eating. Christopher didn't eat much, so he didn't plan to cook much. While Oscar was chopping veggies, the kitchen door creaked open, and Pearl walked in. "Let me give you a hand. Christopher's a bit sleepy too. He's napping next to Emily."

Cooking together sounded like a good idea.

Pearl took over the chopping, and Oscar handled the cooking. Before long, the dinner were ready.

Just as Pearl was about to take the dishes out, Oscar suddenly hugged her from behind. "Pearl, you've been working so hard lately. It's my fault for being so wrapped up in the company and leaving you to manage everything at home."

"Don't say that. We're a team, a family. No need to be so formal," Pearl turned around and said, "Besides, you're busy with important stuff, not just goofing off. As your wife, I get it. I can't just keep nagging you."

As the company president, Oscar had a ton of responsibilities and stress.

She couldn't expect him to be swamped at work all day and then come home to more work. That'd be too much.

Looking into her eyes, Oscar felt his heart swell with happiness. "How lucky I am to have you."

He unconsciously leaned closer to Pearl, the space between them shrinking, their lips almost touching.

Suddenly, there was a knock on the door.

The romantic vibe in the kitchen was instantly shattered. Pearl adjusted her clothes and quickly went to open the door. "Christopher, you're awake?"

"Yeah!" Christopher nodded. "I can help you wash and chop veggies."

"No need, the food's ready. Just grab some utensils and sit at the table to eat." Pearl ruffled his hair, appreciating his thoughtfulness.

"Then I'll help Mom carry the dishes." Christopher stood on tiptoe to reach a plate and carefully walked out.

Before eating, Pearl checked on Emily in the living room. Emily was sleeping soundly, hugging the doll Oscar had bought, occasionally smacking her lips.

It seemed she was dreaming of candy.

Pearl tucked her in and then returned to the dining table.

During dinner, Oscar shared some good news, "The weather's been great lately. How about we go on a little trip to the nearby city tomorrow?"

"Really?" Christopher looked up, eyes wide with excitement. "That would be awesome!"

He really wanted to go out and play with his parents, but Oscar had been so busy with work lately that he hadn't mentioned it.

However, he didn't expect Oscar to bring it up himself.

Pearl was happy but also a bit worried. "What about the company's work? With Harold and Desiree gone, everything's on your shoulders. You can't do the work of two people."

She was afraid he'd be working online while they were out, which would exhaust him, and she couldn't bear to see that.

Oscar met her gaze and saw the worry in her eyes. He smiled. "Pearl, are you worried about me?"

"Of course. Don't change the subject. If we go out, who will handle your work? Is there someone at the company who can help you?" Pearl wasn't going to be easily swayed.

Christopher quietly put down his utensils.

Although he really wanted to go out and play with his parents, he wanted Oscar to be healthy and less stressed even more.
