Chapter 698 Handling Procedures

Christopher rattled off a bunch of game names in one breath, and the boy just kept shaking his head the whole time.

He'd totally forgotten about crying, his eyes wide with curiosity as he asked Christopher, "What are those games you mentioned? I've never heard of them."

"You'll find out when you go to preschool with me. There are lots of kids there, and we can play all those games together," Christopher said, adding a bit of mystery.

The little boy was hooked.

He got up from the ground and grabbed Christopher's hand. "I want to go to preschool with you. I want to play all those games you mentioned."

The boy's parents sighed in relief when they saw this and walked over to thank Pearl, showering Christopher with praise.

"They're classmates, and they'll probably become good friends." Pearl said, looking at Christopher with pride.

She and Oscar had really done a good job raising him.

Once the two kids were out of sight, Pearl got into the car and told the driver to head to the courthouse.

Thinking about seeing Harold soon, Desiree clenched her hands, feeling a mix of tension and anticipation.

They hadn't seen each other in days. Harold must have been with Isolde all this time, right?

And his parents, who were so eager for him to marry Isolde, must have been pushing for it non-stop.

Just like her parents had pushed her to be with Daryl.

The drive from the school to the courthouse felt like forever to Desiree. Finally, the car stopped.

Pearl got out with her.

They stood outside the courthouse for a bit, and soon Harold showed up, alone.

"Desiree, long time no see." Harold's eyes turned red the moment he saw her.

How did they end up like this?

Desiree took a couple of steps back. "Let's not chat at the door. Let's go in and get the divorce over with as soon as possible."

It was only then that Harold noticed Pearl standing nearby. They exchanged quick greetings.

With Desiree there, Pearl didn't feel it was right to ask Harold for details, so she went in with them.

There were a lot of people getting divorced today, so they had to wait in line.

"Desiree, can we not get divorced?" Harold tried to win her back while they waited. "I really value this marriage. It took us so much to be together, and it would be such a shame to end it like this."

"I've already made myself clear before. If you can bring that child back, then we won't get divorced, and I'll listen to whatever you say from now on," Desiree said firmly.

To her, marriage was sacred.

She would never casually mention divorce, but once she did, it meant her mind was made up.

"Desiree..." Harold's lips moved.

His eyes were filled with despair. The thought of losing her brought a wave of intense pain to his heart.

Suddenly, a phone rang. It was a call from Ember.

Harold didn't want to answer it at all. He hung up, but Ember seemed determined to get through to him today. Every time he hung up, she called again.

In the end, he just put his phone on silent, but the screen kept flashing.

"Harold," Desiree noticed and spoke up, "Someone's calling you. Just answer it. We're getting divorced anyway, you don't need to worry about me."

Once they got the divorce decree, they’d be strangers with no further ties.

Harold finally answered the call, feeling utterly exhausted dealing with Ember. "Mom, what do you need?"

"Harold, where have you been these past few days?" Ember's voice was filled with concern.

Ever since Harold mentioned Rhodiola rosea in the hospital room, she had hurried Wesley home and had Hermione stall him.

As a result, the Rhodiola rosea had been successfully disposed of, so even if Harold turned the house upside down, he wouldn't find anything.

Ember had finally breathed a sigh of relief, but then Harold had gone missing and hadn't come to see her.

Even Hermione's calls went unanswered.

Today was the day they were supposed to finalize the divorce, and Ember was determined to find out what was going on. "Don't forget to go to the courthouse today."

"Mom, you called so many times just to remind me to go to the courthouse?" Harold didn't know what to say.

He looked around and saw that everyone there was getting divorced.

But there was no other family where the mother was eagerly waiting for her son to get divorced. Even before the divorce, Ember had already found him a mistress and was pushing him to cheat and abandon his wife.

If word got out, their family would be condemned!

"Harold, you two have already reached this point, and it wasn't me who first brought up the divorce. It was Desiree's idea. If you don't want to get divorced, are you going to force her to stay?" Ember shifted all the blame onto Desiree.

It was true that Desiree had initiated the divorce, but she had done so because she was heartbroken and couldn't stay in that house any longer.

But Harold knew it was pointless to say these things.

If Ember had ever reflected on her actions, they wouldn't have reached this point.

He finally looked at Desiree. After today, he probably wouldn't even have the chance to look at her like this again. "I'm already at the courthouse."

Ember immediately gave Isolde, who was standing by the bed, a look, then cheerfully said to Harold, "Alright, I'll let you get on with it. Come see me when you're done. You know my health isn't great, and I don't know how much longer I have. You're the only one I care about."

Harold didn't respond to visit her. He just hung up.

A home should be the warmest place, but for him, he'd rather deal with the most difficult clients than go home.

"Now that we're getting divorced, your mom's wish has come true. You can go back and be the dutiful son," Desiree said, though she hadn't heard what Ember had said.

But she could imagine that Ember's words were probably not pleasant.

Thinking about her child, Desiree sarcastically mocked Harold.
