Chapter 777 Who is He?
Even though they were father and daughter, he and Emily saw each other every day, but Pearl and RavenWing had missed out on so much time together.
Now that the doctor had said RavenWing only had five years left to live, they had to make the most of it and create as many beautiful memories as possible.
Desiree understood this.
She waved goodbye to Oscar and then linked arms with Harold as they walked toward the parking lot.
"I was thinking, since work's not too crazy right now, we could take a trip to some nearby cities. But it looks like we'll have to put that on hold," Harold said, looking at her with the softest gaze.
Having her by his side was wonderful.
Desiree said, "If we can't go in the next few days, we can go next week or the week after. We've got plenty of time."
They were still young, and they had all the time in the world to do everything they wanted.
Meanwhile, over at Azalea's place, she had been alone at home ever since Saskia went out to work.
With nothing else to do, she decided to clean the house. The villa was huge, and it was a lot of work. She had to take breaks every now and then.
By the time she finished, it was already evening.
Azalea checked the time and then called Nathaniel. She wanted to hear his voice.
Even if he didn't come back, just a few words would be enough for her.
The phone rang for a long time, but no one answered.
Azalea then sent a text message and waited patiently, but still received no response.
Now she was really worried.
No matter how busy George was with work, he always found time to call her back or at least text her.
But today, there was nothing.
There were no calls, no texts; it was like George had disappeared.
Azalea hesitated for a long time before deciding to call his law firm. Nathaniel had previously given her the number.
She had never called it.
Today, for the first time, she dialed the number, only to find it was a deadline!
At that moment, Azalea's mind raced with thoughts.
She had read about a scam online in which con artists would set up a fake company, hire employees, and then one day claim they were going on a team-building trip abroad, only to sell the employees into illegal activities in other countries.
Could George have fallen into such a trap?
No, she had to call the police.
Since Nathaniel had been missing for less than 48 hours, the police were initially reluctant to get involved. But Azalea, crying, gave them George's driver's license number. "Please, help me check. I think he might have been taken abroad."
Seeing this, the operator quickly fetched Hugo, who took the call himself. Hugo asked, "What's your relationship with him?"
"We're engaged. We already had our engagement party, and we're getting married in three months," Azalea said, not holding anything back."Come down to the station," Hugo said, hanging up the phone. He hadn't had time to investigate Nathaniel's associates, but now his fiancée had come to him.
Azalea had no idea what was happening. In her slippers and pajamas, she ran to the police station, where she learned a lot.
"You're saying George broke the law? That he's involved in betraying the country? That's impossible. I don't know where you got this information, but it must be false." Azalea was in complete denial, refusing to believe it.
She continued, "We've known each other for so long. He's always been so good to me and so dedicated to his work. He's an excellent lawyer. How could he do something like this? You have to investigate and clear his name."
Hugo waited for her to finish before asking, "Ms. Fuller, I heard you call him George, right?"
"Yes, his name is George. We're getting married. Is there a problem with me calling him that?" Azalea was taken aback.
Her first thought was that Hugo was being overly nosy.
Hugo shook his head. "It has nothing to do with your engagement. But that name doesn't match his real name. Did you know that?"
"You're joking, right? That's not funny at all." Azalea was stunned.
She took a few steps back, trembling uncontrollably, looking at Hugo in disbelief.
How could that be?
If that wasn't George's name, then what was?
How could he have lied to her?
"You know his driver's license number, but you don't know his real name. Ms. Fuller, I suspect you might be involved in this case," Hugo said, leading her to the interrogation room.
Azalea was in a daze. "If his name isn't George, then what is it?"
Hugo replied, "Nathaniel."
The name was completely unfamiliar to Azalea.
They had been together for so long, but she had never heard that name.
"You knew his driver's license number, but you didn't notice it didn't match his name. How do you explain that?" Hugo continued.
Azalea shook her head. "I only saw his driver's license number on our engagement day. I didn't pay attention to it or check it. We were getting engaged. Even if he lied about other things, he wouldn't lie about his name."
What benefit would Nathaniel get from making up a fake name?
Azalea couldn't understand it at all.
Hugo didn't answer her question but asked another, "You didn't notice anything suspicious about his identity?"
Azalea suddenly didn't know what to say.
Hugo's questions made her realize how little she knew about George.
No, he wasn't George. He was Nathaniel.
"What do you know about his work?" Hugo asked.
Azalea gave a bitter smile. "Before I called the police, I dialed his law firm's number. It was a deadline. I thought the firm had deceived him. Now it seems I'm the one who was deceived. From the start, he gave me a fake number. What do I know?"
She knew less than Hugo!
Just moments ago, she thought she had found a great husband. But now!
She had fallen from heaven to hell in an instant.
