Chapter 952 Finding Someone

Finding someone couldn't wait. If they took too long, something bad might happen.

So, they split up and started searching the rehab center thoroughly.

"Clara!" Lyra called out as she searched.

Suddenly, she heard a faint sobbing sound ahead.

It was hard to see who it was because something was blocking her view. The crying was barely audible.

This place was a rehab center for people with various strange conditions who didn't want to go to hospitals or psychiatric wards.

Lyra's mind started to imagine all sorts of scenarios.

Either it was a mentally unstable patient or someone with epilepsy who had both physical and personality issues.

Both possibilities were pretty scary.

But she mustered up her courage and walked forward because it might be the person they were looking for. "Clara, is that you?"

As she got closer, a foot suddenly stuck out in front of her, seemingly trying to trip her.

But this kind of thing only happens on TV.

In reality, with a foot suddenly appearing in broad daylight, how could she not see it?

Lyra stopped, looking a bit exasperated but still speaking gently, "Alright, Clara, I know it's you. Come out."

"You're so annoying!"

Almost as soon as she finished speaking, Clara jumped out from behind, rubbing her eyes, which were red from crying.

Clara glared at her with undisguised hostility and anger in her eyes.

But she was young, her face still full of youthful softness, making her look quite cute even when she was angry.

It was hard to stay mad at her.

Lyra unconsciously softened her tone, "Alright, why are you hiding here alone? Everyone outside is looking for you. If you don't come out, they'll worry."

"Let them worry? They don't care about me. Even my parents don't. They just think I'm an embarrassment."

She said the last part very quietly.

But Lyra still heard it.

In that moment, it struck a chord in her heart, reminding her of her own experiences.

Clara hadn't said much, but she had revealed a lot. In just a few words, she conveyed a lot of information.

For instance, she wasn't valued at home.

If her parents truly cherished her, they wouldn't have left her in a rehab center and never visited.

While searching for Clara, Lyra had learned a bit about her situation at the rehab center.

It was as if she had been forgotten.

Her parents and her seven-year-old brother hadn't visited her even once.

Thinking about this, Lyra felt even more sympathetic. Clara's aggressive behavior seemed more like stubbornness and resilience to her.

Lyra slowly crouched down.

"Even if no one else cares about you, you need to take care of yourself. Staying out here isn't safe. What if you run into someone with bad intentions? Come on, let's go back."

Lyra extended her hand, her voice incredibly gentle.

Even Clara, who usually harbored ill will towards her, couldn't refuse Lyra at that moment.

And so, Lyra led Clara back.

"Where'd you find her?" The nurse asked, surprised.

Lyra glanced at Clara, noticing the anxiety and unease in her eyes. Knowing Clara didn't want her to tell the truth, she lied kindly, "She was probably scared and hiding. I just happened to find her."

She didn't elaborate further.

Fortunately, everyone understood and didn't press for more details.

As for Clara's behavior, there wasn't much more to say.

Jeffery took out the equipment from the medical kit to examine Lyra.

They expected Clara to resist as usual.

But this time, she just huffed.

Even Jeffery was surprised, and Lyra was taken aback.

Could a few words really make her more cooperative?

It turned out that wasn't the case.

After a simple check-up, Clara started ranting at Lyra, "Don't think that just because you said those things, I won't be hostile towards you."

"As long as you don't bring Jeffery back, I won't let you off. Just wait. When I get better and leave this place, you'll be the first person I come after."

Her threats were serious.

But Lyra had been threatened before. A girl of about eighteen didn't intimidate her.

She just nodded symbolically, "Alright, I'll wait. Get well soon."

Then she went over the recorded results and gave Clara some instructions.

Clara felt her threats did not affect Lyra, making her even more frustrated.

They left in the afternoon.

Clara was reluctant to see them go.

But she had no reason to stop two doctors from leaving, especially since one of them was Jeffery.

On the way back, Lyra thought about the information she had learned from the nurse before they left and sighed unconsciously.

She didn't even realize she had sighed out loud.

Jeffery heard and asked, "Why the sigh?"

Lyra hesitated, then looked at him, "Do you know about Clara's family situation? I heard her parents haven't cared for her since they sent her here."

Clara's family was well-off.

Her father ran a company, and her mother was a designer. They weren't extremely wealthy but were well-to-do.

But some things couldn't be avoided with money, and wealth didn't guarantee open-mindedness.

Clara's family was one of those cases.

Her parents had always neglected her, focusing all their attention on her younger brother. No matter what Clara did, it went unnoticed.

"She must have been hurt as a child. The nurse told me they had someone do a simple hypnosis treatment on Clara and learned this from her," Lyra said.

But the information wasn't complete.

So she couldn't find out everything that had happened to Clara as a child.

But even without knowing, she could guess.

A person's character was linked to their environment. Clara's mental issues indicated that whatever had affected her was significant.

It was significant enough that she couldn't forget it even as an adult.

Jeffery nodded, "That matches my guess, but I don't know much about their family situation."
