Chapter 607 Blocked While Escaping
As soon as Janetta thought about herself, her eyes got all misty.
Seeing this, Pearl quickly sat down and grabbed her hand to comfort her. "Hey, whatever happened in the past is done. Where do you wanna go?"
After what happened with Janetta, Pearl had been thinking a lot. She figured Janetta must've been in some serious trouble to suddenly ask for money, and as her only friend, Pearl felt she had to help.
So, Pearl made up her mind: as soon as Janetta woke up, she'd agree to whatever she needed.
Now Janetta wanted to leave, so they were gonna leave.
Without wasting any time, Pearl got Janetta into a wheelchair and pushed her out of the hospital room.
"What are you doing?" Oscar was surprised to find Janetta awake, wth Pear pushing her in a wheelchair.
"I promised to take her away. We're leaving now," Pearl replied.
Then, she grabbed Oscar, pleading, "You'll back me up, right?"
Oscar ruffled her hair and said, "Of course, but you can't just take her without telling the hospital. How about you take her downstairs first, and I'll go find Quincy to handle the discharge papers."
Watching Pearl and Janetta get into the elevator, Oscar went to find Quincy.
The discharge papers were done quickly, and then they drove away from the hospital.
In the car, Janetta let out a sigh of relief, a faint smile on her face.
Seeing this, Pearl was genuinely happy and held her hand. "Let's go to my place first, change clothes, have a meal, and then we'll take you to the airport."
"Thank you, Pearl. I'm so glad I met you." Janetta gave Pearl a big hug, but before she could say more, Oscar suddenly hit the brakes.
She quickly shielded Pearl and snapped, "Mr. Brown, don't you know Pearl is pregnant? How could you..."
Before she could finish, she saw Damian getting out of the car in front of them, and her body started to tremble.
Pearl was terrified and hugged her. "It's okay, Janetta, we won't let him get his way."
Then she told Oscar to start the car quickly.
Damian had sent three cars: one blocked their way in front, one blocked the left side, and one blocked the rear.
They were trapped.
Damian knocked on the car window and pointed outside, signaling for them to get out.
"I'm not getting out, Pearl, I want to leave now." Janetta lost it and couldn't bring herself to look at Damian.
Pearl was still hesitating when Damian broke the passenger side window and threatened Janetta. "If you don't want anything to happen to the baby in Pearl's belly, get out of the car now."
"Damian, shut up. It's broad daylight, you can't do anything to us." Pearl wasn't scared of him.
"Mrs. Brown, maybe you're not scared of me, but what about Mr. Brown? Are you really willing to gamble with your wife and child's lives?" Damian sneered, coldly looking at Oscar.
Oscar couldn't risk Pearl and the baby's lives, but Janetta was just as important to Pearl, and he was stuck.
"Relax, I won't hurt Janetta. I'm glad she's awake, but taking her away like this pisses me off," Damian said.
He then looked at Janetta. "Let's have a small talk. If you still wanna leave with them, I won't stop you."
"Really?" Janetta didn't want Pearl to get hurt, and hearing Damian say he just wanted to talk made her consider it.
Damian jumped at the chance and kept promising he'd keep his word.
Janetta finally agreeed, "Alright, have your people leave, and I'll get out and talk to you."
Janetta was still thinking about Pearl. If things went south, at least Oscar could drive away and keep Pearl safe.
The blocking cars all moved to the side, and Oscar parked by the roadside, letting traffic flow again.
Janetta was about to open the door, but Pearl grabbed her. She comforted Pearl, "It's okay, Pearl. I could really go for something hearty. Could you ask your housekeeper to prepare some for me?"
"Alright, I'll call home right now. Be careful, and if anything feels off, get back in the car immediately." Pearl watched her get out, feeling uneasy.
Damian didn't wait for Janetta to walk over; he rushed over, pulled her to the side of the road, and hugged her tightly.
He whispered in her ear, "You're finally awake. I thought... No, you wouldn't be in trouble, I was just overthinking."
Janetta was suffocating from his embrace and used all her strength to try to push him away, protesting, "You're hurting me. Let go of me."
Damian held her even tighter. "No, I can't let you leave me."
"You said if I still wanted to leave, you wouldn't stop me. Did you forget what you said?" Janetta panicked.
How could she forget that Damian was not a man of his word?
She wanted to get back in the car and leave with Pearl.
She struggled again, but her body hadn't fully recovered.
Realizing she might not be able to leave, Janetta's tears started to fall.
Damian, panicked, let go and cupped her face to comfort her, "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to. I was just afraid you'd leave me. You don't know how much blood you lost; I was really scared."
He was a bit incoherent and picked Janetta up. "Let's go home. I'll get someone to cook up that food you're craving"
"I don't want to." Janetta struggled desperately, and Damian, not expecting such a strong reaction, let his guard down, allowing her to escape.
"Catch her," Damian roared in anger.
Pearl, hearing this from the car, quickly opened the door and shouted to Janetta, "Get in the car."
Their car was some distance away, and Janetta couldn't make it in time.
Seeing she was about to be caught, Janetta suddenly changed direction and ran into the traffic.
She thought that if she could reach the other side, they wouldn't be able to catch her, and she could leave Damian forever to start over in a place where no one knew her, living a new life.
With this thought in mind, she quickened her pace.
The traffic was so heavy that Janetta couldn't see clearly or know how to get through. When a car was about to hit her, she smiled, thinking, 'If this is how I leave forever, it's not so bad.'
"Janetta," Damian shouted. Janetta's smile deepened and she thought, 'This way, will you finally let me go?'
With a loud crash, Janetta fell to the side.
There was no imagined severe pain, just a slight injury to her knee, stinging a bit.
She slowly opened her eyes and was shocked by the scene before her. Damian lay in a pool of blood, unconscious.
"No. Why did you do this to me? Why won't you let me go?" Janetta cried out in pain, wanting to crawl over and hold Damian, but she didn't have the courage.
