Chapter 847: Are You the Aunt?
When Nathaniel found out Benjamin was missing, he almost bolted from the office.
But he was in the middle of a meeting when he got the call.
Seeing Nathaniel about to leave, the shareholders looked anxious and confused, trying to stop him.
"Mr. Egan, where are you going?"
"You can't leave now, we haven't made a decision yet. Without a plan, how are we supposed to proceed?"
Their chatter annoyed Nathaniel to no end. He shot them a cold glance, instantly silencing them. "I have more important things to deal with right now. We'll discuss this later."
The shareholders opened their mouths to speak, but Nathaniel was already out the door, leaving them no chance to persuade him to stay. They could only sigh in resignation.
Having a CEO like him was really tough.
After some time, Saskia finally arrived.
She immediately saw Nora, who looked extremely worried. Saskia rushed over, "Ms. Everly, have you found him yet?"
Nora was initially relieved to see Saskia, but then her anxiety returned. "No, I've searched everywhere. I don't know where Benjamin could have gone."
Hearing this, Saskia almost fainted.
School dismissal time was always a high-risk period.
With so many people around, if a kidnapper took advantage of the chaos, she couldn't even bear to think about it.
Suppressing the pain in her heart, Saskia forced herself to stay calm. "Let's check the security cameras."
"Right, we can check the cameras. I'll go do that now," Nora said, slapping her forehead.
How had she not thought of that sooner?
Just as they were about to check the footage, Saskia suddenly spotted Benjamin. Her heart tightened, and without saying a word, she ran over and hugged him tightly.
"Benjamin, where did you go? You scared Mommy to death," Saskia's voice trembled.
She was truly terrified.
She had even thought that if Benjamin couldn't be found, she wouldn't be able to...
Benjamin was also startled, realizing how much his sudden disappearance had worried Saskia. "I'm sorry, Mommy. I didn't mean to make you worry. I promise it won't happen again. Please don't be sad."
Benjamin clumsily wiped away Saskia's tears.
Saskia also wiped her own tears and managed a smile. "Mommy is just happy to have found you."
Not only did they breathe a sigh of relief, but so did Nora.
If Benjamin had gone missing, the kindergarten would have been held accountable. Although Nora didn't know Saskia's exact background, when Benjamin was first enrolled, the school had been very secretive.
Nora had sensed something then and had always complied with Saskia's requests since.
After a series of events, Saskia took Benjamin home.
When Nathaniel arrived and learned what had happened, his face turned cold.
Benjamin was a bit scared.
But this time, Saskia didn't stop him. Children shouldn't be overly pampered; they needed to understand what they could and couldn't do.
This incident was a lesson he needed to learn.
After Nathaniel finished scolding him, Benjamin looked dejected.
Saskia, feeling a bit sorry for him, pulled him close and asked, "You haven't told Mommy why you ran off today. Didn't Mommy teach you better?"
Benjamin glanced at Nathaniel. "I didn't run off. Someone took me to get something to eat."
Saskia's heart skipped a beat. She gently grabbed Benjamin, afraid of hurting him. "Who took you? You can't just eat things from strangers. Are you okay? Let Mommy check."
After Benjamin explained, Saskia calmed down.
But experiencing such highs and lows in one day was too much for her.
"What did the woman who took you look like?"
"She looked a bit like Auntie."
Saskia's hand paused.
Azalea?
Her body reacted instinctively. Hearing that name made her heart race, and her recently calmed emotions surged again.
Nathaniel interrupted in time, "Alright, Benjamin, come here."
Benjamin hesitated, seeing Saskia's obvious distress.
But under Nathaniel's insistence, he walked over to him.
Nathaniel comforted Benjamin and then turned to Saskia. "Saskia, calm down. Benjamin is watching."
It was like being pulled out of deep water. Saskia took a couple of deep breaths, her face pale as she glanced back.
"I'll go rest in my room for a bit. I'll come out for dinner."
"Mommy."
Benjamin wanted to follow, but Nathaniel held him back.
Saskia locked herself in her room.
In the closed room, she slid down to the floor, leaning against the door. The coldness seeped through her clothes, numbing her skin.
Saskia had known for a while that Azalea was alive and had people looking for her.
But Azalea remained elusive.
It was as if she was avoiding her sister, even now, showing up to see Benjamin but not her.
Why?
Saskia asked herself.
But deep down, she knew the answer. Because of Nathaniel, Azalea still had feelings for him. So even if she was alive, she didn't want to see her.
Saskia calmed herself in the room and came out for dinner.
Her expression had returned to normal.
Benjamin wanted to ask but remembered Nathaniel's earlier advice to not ask too many questions. He pouted and swallowed his words.
Nathaniel didn't ask much either.
After Benjamin went to bed, Nathaniel said, "Azalea should be free now, right?"
They had previously speculated that Azalea hadn't come to see them because she was being controlled.
But now that she had approached Benjamin, it meant she was safe.
"She should be," Saskia nodded, feeling complicated.
Nathaniel looked at her deeply, his eyes unreadable. "She might have her reasons. Don't overthink it."
Saskia had just recovered from an illness and shouldn't stress herself out.
"I know. I'll manage," she said, taking a deep breath.
After that, Saskia kept a closer eye on Benjamin, always picking him up on time.
But she seemed distracted.
Every time she went, it was like she was looking for someone. When she didn't find them, she seemed a bit down.
Benjamin was puzzled but didn't ask.
Nathaniel, on the other hand, was swamped with work due to new projects, leaving him almost no time to check on Saskia.
Especially since Saskia was focused on Benjamin, leaving no one to help with work.
But even so, he didn't take his assistant's suggestion to let Saskia help. "Don't tell her. Let her keep her usual workload."
The assistant opened his mouth to say something but closed it under Nathaniel's icy gaze. "Understood, Mr. Egan."
Nathaniel rubbed his temples.
Just then, the phone on his desk rang.
