Chapter 353 From the Beginning, I Was Here for the Cure
"Once he gets enough sleep, he'll wake up on his own," Kevin said, looking relaxed.
Haley glanced at Kevin, still worried. "This medicine doesn't have side effects, right? Will he be okay?"
Kevin paused, thinking about how to respond.
Just then, Oscar's fingers twitched, making Haley ecstatic. She focused on him again.
"Oscar." Haley shook him gently. "Are you feeling better now?"
She was unsure about the meds but trusted Kevin to handle it.
Oscar's head throbbed. He opened his eyes and stared at Haley.
"Oscar, it's me, Haley. Are you okay?" she asked anxiously.
Oscar sat up.
As soon as he moved, guns were aimed at him.
Kevin still wasn't at ease.
Seeing this, Haley stepped in. "What are you doing? He's my boyfriend, my future husband. Show some respect!"
They were Kevin's people, so they listened to him.
Oscar stayed silent after waking up.
Kevin watched him curiously. "Oscar, do you know who I am?"
Oscar stared at Kevin. "You got out of prison, collected loyal followers, and dodged the police."
Kevin laughed. "It's not hard to make people obey."
Oscar adjusted his position and said coldly, "But you still want to get rid of Donald. I've already taken care of him for you. How's that for a gift?"
"Excellent!" Kevin laughed. "I never thought we'd end up working together."
Oscar squinted, unreadable. "Cooperation depends on what's in it for me. What can you offer?"
Kevin said, "I gave you my daughter. Isn't that enough?"
Oscar glanced at Haley and smiled. "Feelings are one thing, business is another. I won't take a loss."
Kevin stood up, showing off his lab. "You've seen everything here. The fact that I'm letting you speak means I've accepted you. We can keep working together; no one can stop us."
Oscar looked around.
As he stood, the guns followed his every move.
Kevin waved them off.
Oscar walked over, frowning at the mutated white mice and caged, frenzied gorillas.
The human organs in formalin were even more shocking.
Kevin wanted to show off his work.
But he had to stay low-key.
Usually, those who knew about this were already dead.
Oscar's eyes fell on a row of medications, unsure which one could help Pearl.
Haley, next to him, said, "Oscar, Kevin sincerely invites you. He knows you'd risk your life for me, and he's acknowledged you."
Oscar didn't respond, just asked, "What are these?"
"Poisons."
Oscar couldn't help but ask, "You can make poisons too?"
Haley quickly answered, "Kevin learned from others. He's really amazing."
Oscar said, "Do you have antidotes?"
Kevin pointed to another row. "The antidotes are over here."
Both the poisons and antidotes were just numbered, making it hard to tell them apart.
Kevin looked at Oscar. "So, what do you think of my proposal?"
Oscar turned back to him. "Do we have to cooperate?"
Kevin smirked. "You're about to marry my daughter. I consider you family. If you refuse, it means you don't respect me."
His men were ready to draw their guns.
Haley, still worried, said, "Kevin, Oscar is definitely on my side."
She pleaded, "Oscar, just listen to Kevin. He saved you. As long as we keep quiet, no one will know what you're doing. You don't have to worry about being exposed!"
Her optimism was unwavering.
Oscar just observed the surroundings. The medications were well-protected and shouldn't pose any problems.
"Oscar, you haven't answered me yet," Kevin pressed.
Oscar asked, "Where's the antidote?"
"What antidote?"
"Pearl's antidote," Oscar said coldly.
Kevin's face darkened. "You still can't forget her."
"I came here for the antidote in the first place," Oscar replied.
Haley, now confused, said, "Kevin, is the antidote here? Just give it to Oscar. Once he has it, he'll cut ties with Pearl!"
She was convinced Oscar had feelings for her.
Kevin sensed something was off and said sternly, "If he really loved you, he wouldn't care about Pearl anymore!"
The guns were aimed at Oscar again.
Oscar smirked at Kevin. "Your whereabouts are so secretive. If I didn't do this, how could I find your base? All I want is the antidote!"
Just then, someone reported, "Mr. Garcia, there's a car here!"
Kevin's eyes locked onto Oscar. "You did this on purpose!"
"Yes," Oscar replied.
Kevin, furious, pulled out his gun to shoot Oscar.
But Oscar rolled behind the sofa, dodging the attack.
Haley, startled, pleaded, "Kevin, no! Don't kill him!"
She almost threw herself in front of Kevin, blinded by love.
Kevin looked at her. "Don't you understand? You've been used by him!"
Haley's eyes were red, still lost in her dream. "No, he just wants the antidote. He loves me, Kevin."
Kevin forcefully pushed her away, and she fell hard to the ground.
Outside, gunfire erupted again.
The arriving forces were twice the size of those who had wiped out Donald's base.
To ensure nothing went wrong, Oscar had already devised a strategy to take down Kevin quickly.
Elijah got out of the car and reminded Pearl, "Ms. Harris, stay here and don't get out. This will be resolved quickly."
"I understand." Pearl's heart raced as she heard the gunshots. She couldn't help but feel anxious.
She was worried about Oscar, clutching her sleeve tightly. She was nervous, not knowing how he was doing.
She looked at the abandoned factory. The ground floor seemed deserted, but the second and third floors were covered with black cloth, as if to prevent anyone from seeing what was going on inside.
