Chapter 736 Change so Drastically
"Hey, why are you hanging out here all alone?" Pearl rushed over and scooped up Christopher. "Got something on your mind?" she asked.
Christopher looked up at her and said, "I wanna play with you. But if you're busy, it's cool—I can just watch some cartoons by myself."
No matter how late Oscar got home, he always changed his clothes and played with Christopher and Emily. But today, as soon as he walked in, he headed straight to the bedroom with Pearl. Christopher wanted to be with them but didn't want to be a bother.
"We're done with our stuff. Come on, I'll carry you downstairs," Pearl said, holding Christopher as they walked down. Oscar followed them.
The three of them sat on the couch, laughing and chatting. Emily was passed around between them until she finally fell asleep in Christopher's arms.
At this, Christopher didn't dare move a muscle. He was afraid that even the slightest movement would wake Emily up. "Sweetie, why don't you let me take Emily to the cradle?" Pearl offered, worried that his arms might go numb.
Even though Emily was only a few months old and not heavy for an adult, Christopher was still just a kid. Pearl knew she couldn't let one child hold onto another for too long.
However, Christopher shook his head and held Emily tighter. "No, Mom, let me hold her a little longer." He looked down at Emily's chubby little face, completely smitten.
Emily had become cuter by the day since she was born. Pearl was delighted to see the strong bond between Emily and Christopher. Sensing how determined he was, she didn't press the issue. She said, "Alright, you can hold her for now. Just let me know if you get tired."
Hearing this, Christopher nodded vigorously. He held on until his arms went numb and he was afraid he might drop Emily. He said, "Mom, I can't hold her anymore."
"Let me take her," Pearl said, carefully lifting Emily and placing her in the cradle. Some babies wake up easily, but Emily didn't budge; she slept even more soundly.
Pearl tucked Emily in and then sat back on the couch. She asked Christopher, "How about we visit Grandpa tomorrow?"
Christopher nodded eagerly and responded, "Yeah, I like Grandpa, and Emily likes him too."
In a child's eyes, the world was simple. They liked whoever treated them well. Thinking of RavenWing, Pearl sighed inwardly. She and her father had only recently reconciled. No matter what illness RavenWing had, she hoped he could pull through and live a few more years. RavenWing adored Emily and Christopher, and they loved him just as much. She didn't have many relatives, so she naturally hoped to have RavenWing to dote on Emily and Christopher.
In Eldorians.
Since Louis took over RavenWing's position, there had been a lot on his plate. Even with Jimena's help, they were busy until late every day.
"Louis, I made you some soup. Don't forget to drink it after you finish your work. You've been staying up late for the past two weeks without any time to rest," Jimena said, bringing Louis the soup.Looking at Louis, her heart ached, but there wasn't much she could do. Now that Louis was in this position, he had to be responsible for everyone. If he indulged in comfort, what would happen to everyone else? This was their home, and they both wanted to make it better.
"Why are you cooking? Let the chef handle this," Louis said, quickly helping Jimena to sit down. "Your belly is getting bigger, and you should really take a good rest. You shouldn't be doing things like this—I should be the one making soup for you."
As Jimena's husband, Louis felt it was his duty to take care of her, especially since she was bearing the pain of pregnancy and childbirth alone. If he hadn't shown her some extra care now, he would have felt deeply ashamed.
Jimena touched her belly, a smile spreading across her face. She said, "You're so busy every day. How could I let you cook? I know you care about me. Let's not waste time on this. Have you thought about names for the baby?"
This question stumped Louis. He had thought about it but hadn't decided yet. Since this was their first child, the name needed to be just right.
"I've been going through books, trying to find a good name. We don't know if it's a boy or a girl, so let's pick one of each. We'll use them eventually," Jimena said, her love for children evident.
For her, raising a child with the one she loved was a dream come true. Her pregnancy had been relatively easy, with just a touch of morning sickness at the beginning. Besides, Louis had hired the best obstetric team, and she hadn't faced many difficulties. With all these factors combined, she naturally hoped to have one boy and one girl.
"Alright, I'll do whatever you say," Louis said, kneeling and placing his ear against her belly. By this stage, the baby could kick.
"Baby, it's Daddy," Louis said, feeling a little flutter. "He kicked me!" Louis couldn't help but smile, his excitement bubbling over as he spoke to the little one.
"I felt it too. The baby likes you," Jimena laughed, gently guiding Louis's hand to her belly. "Say something else and see if there's another reaction," she said.
"Do you like Daddy? If you do, give me another kick," Louis encouraged. Just like that, the baby responded with another little kick. They knew the baby couldn't understand them and the kicks were coincidental, but they couldn't help feeling happy.
"If RavenWing were here, he'd be thrilled. Once we decide on names, we should ask for his opinion," Jimena said casually.
However, her mention of RavenWing made Louis's expression grow serious. They had been married long enough to understand each other well. Jimena noticed Louis's concern and asked, "What's wrong? Is something up with him?"
"I don't know, but something seems off. When he looks at me, there's a sense of reluctance," Louis said, puzzled. RavenWing had never been like this before. He hadn't been gone long enough to change so drastically. Something must have happened, but he chose to keep it to himself.
