Chapter 793 On the Verge of Death
Nathaniel grabbed Saskia's chin, his words slicing through the tension.
When Saskia disappeared from his life, he tried everything—contacted countless friends, determined to find her.
But he came up empty.
Just when he was about to throw in the towel, he met Azalea. It felt like fate was playing a trick, tying him to Saskia forever.
So, he decided to roll with it.
Nathaniel said, "Instead of trying to run away from me, why don't you think about how to apologize and show you're sorry? Maybe then your life will be a bit easier."
Saskia gave a bitter smile.
Nathaniel wanted her apology, her submission, and she got that.
But the problem was, she had no leverage to stay by his side.
Even if she managed to please him now, make him happy, she would still have to leave eventually.
Jade's prejudice against her was like a mountain she couldn't climb.
Nathaniel and Saskia couldn't be together.
Saskia's silence had already shown her stance.
Nathaniel's face darkened further. He continued, "Don't expect me to let you go, Saskia. From now on, stay here and behave. You've always been thinking about Benjamin, haven't you? Please me, and I'll help you find Benjamin. Otherwise, even if I have news, I won't tell you."
Azalea was refusing to communicate, and Saskia had no idea where she had taken Benjamin.
Saskia was trapped here, knew no one, and didn't have the money to hire a private investigator.
But Nathaniel had the means.
He was using Benjamin as leverage to force Saskia to comply.
"Nathaniel, you can do whatever you want to me, but please don't involve Benjamin," Saskia said, her heart aching deeply.
The more pain she felt, the more Nathaniel seized on it, continuously provoking her. "Even if Benjamin is involved, you don't seem to care, do you? I see you're still living comfortably, enjoying your life. Losing Benjamin might even be a relief for you."
For some, having a sick child could feel like a huge burden for parents. But Saskia had never thought that way.
Forget it, she couldn't explain it to Nathaniel. It was better to let him say whatever he wanted.
He would eventually tire of talking.
Nathaniel's phone rang. It was a work call, and he had to leave to handle business.
Before leaving, he warned Saskia again, "Stay home and don't make me angry."
If he got angry, the one who would suffer would be Saskia.
Saskia watched him leave, then lay on the bed alone, missing Benjamin terribly.
She wondered how Benjamin was doing.
Suddenly, the phone rang, breaking the silence in the room.
Saskia picked up the phone casually, but as soon as she saw the caller ID, she sat up straight.
It was Azalea calling.
Azalea was reaching out, which meant she wanted to negotiate. Benjamin could be saved!
Saskia eagerly answered the call, "Azalea, where is Benjamin now?"
"George, no, where is Nathaniel now?" Azalea didn't answer her question but asked instead, "Are you two still together?"
Recalling the past days, Azalea felt a sharp pain in her heart.
She had been too naive, too trusting of Nathaniel and Saskia. On the day of the engagement party, Nathaniel's phone ended up next to Saskia, which was a signal, but Azalea didn't catch on.
Later, Azalea warmly brought Saskia home, took extra care of her, even worried that Nathaniel might not like Saskia and that they wouldn't get along.
And what was the result?
After all that care, they ended up in bed together, and now they were living together, while Azalea and her child were left behind.
How could Azalea not hate them?
Especially when she saw Benjamin, a thought suddenly popped into her head.
Her child was suffering because of Saskia, so she should retaliate against Saskia's child.
But Azalea couldn't do it.
Benjamin called her Aunt Azalea, and there was still affection between them. She couldn't be that cruel.
"I'm at Nathaniel's villa. He won't let me leave," Saskia admitted honestly.
She acknowledged her fault. "I'm sorry."
"Is 'sorry' enough? If 'sorry' worked, why would we need police and laws in this world?" Azalea's emotions grew more intense. "You've been looking for Benjamin, but have you cared about me? What did I do wrong to deserve this?"
If she had deliberately meddled in someone else's relationship, then being betrayed now would be her own doing. She would accept it without complaint.
But she and Nathaniel had fallen in love freely, gradually progressing toward their engagement. Yet, in her happiest moment, they had teamed up to plunge her into despair.
From heaven to hell, such a huge gap, Azalea didn't know how she had survived.
Plus, these days, the masked man had been brainwashing her, inevitably affecting her emotions.
"Azalea, let's meet. As long as you take Benjamin to the hospital, you can do whatever you want to me." Saskia was willing to sacrifice anything for Benjamin.
Azalea laughed through her tears. "How dare I retaliate against you! You're the one Nathaniel holds dear. After all these years, he still hasn't forgotten you. And Nathaniel, the heir to the Egan family, if I provoke him, would I still have a way out?"
She and Saskia were different.
Saskia had Nathaniel's love. No matter how extreme her actions might be, Nathaniel would never genuinely hurt her.
But for Azalea?
Nathaniel wouldn't show her any mercy.
"Azalea, it's not what you think between him and me. He hates me, and his mom dislikes me too," Saskia tried to explain.
Azalea cut her off, "Don't tell me that. Saying that only makes me hate you more. Benjamin is with me now, and you know his condition. Without proper treatment, he's barely hanging on, might die soon."
Azalea opened the door a crack.
She looked at Benjamin sitting on the hospital bed, deliberately exaggerating his condition.
She really didn't want to hurt Benjamin, but she could lie to make Saskia suffer a bit!
She needed some psychological balance.
"Azalea! We're sisters, and I beg you; don't do this, please!" Saskia was desperate.
That was her child.
She had worked so hard to raise Benjamin, hoping to cure him, but now, Benjamin was barely hanging on!
