Chapter 231 You're Bleeding
Rachel lifted the bowl, spoon in hand, ready to feed him.
Adrian, wanting to keep his distance, said, "Alright, I'll finish it myself."
"Take it slow. It might be hot," Rachel advised, watching him closely.
Adrian took the spoon and sipped a couple of times.
"How is it?" Rachel asked eagerly.
Adrian smiled politely. "Not bad."
Rachel beamed. "You haven't tried my cooking before. Everyone loves it. I'm pretty good at it. Next time, I'll cook for you. I asked Jeremy and Lauren, and I know what you like. How about I come over next time?"
"No need!" Adrian quickly refused. "I'm busy with work and rarely home."
"I can come to cook when you home," Rachel insisted warmly.
Seeing her enthusiasm, Adrian thought of a way to refuse. "Rachel, you don't need to care for me so much. Don't listen to my parents. I can take care of myself. We should keep our distance. If you come over to cook, it might lead to gossip and affect your future marriage."
Rachel's enthusiasm faded, and she sat back down.
"Yesterday, after you got drunk, I heard you call Pearl," Rachel said. " Do you like her a lot?"
Adrian lowered his eyes. "Yes."
Rachel's face changed, feeling her efforts were in vain. "Why? Is she more beautiful than me?"
Adrian smiled. "In my heart, she's the best."
Seeing his gentle expression, Rachel felt even more uncomfortable.
Adrian was always polite to Rachel, never critical, because of their parents, Timothy and Jessica Anderson. Their families were close. Jeremy and Lauren liked Rachel, so Adrian treated her as a friend or sister. But it was the first time Adrian showed such happiness, and it wasn't for her.
She didn't understand what was so special about Pearl that made Adrian remember her for so long. If Adrian and Pearl liked each other, why wasn't she his girlfriend? Could she be better to Adrian than Rachel? Rachel didn't believe it.
"Adrian, you know Jeremy and Lauren are satisfied with me, right?" Rachel said. "They accept me, not that woman!"
Adrian didn't care much. "Rachel, when you get married, find someone you like and who likes you. Otherwise, don't get married."
Rachel got angry and stood up. "I won't!"
She left his house. Adrian didn't chase after her or say anything more. He knew Jeremy and Lauren were satisfied with Rachel. He also knew Rachel's thoughts. He was just rejecting her in his own way, hoping Jeremy and Lauren would give up too.
Oscar left the orphanage, his face dark and shrouded in a gloomy aura. No one dared approach him. The first thing he said when he got in the car was, "Go to the Civil Affairs Bureau tomorrow morning!"
Harold was stunned.
Oscar added coldly, "For a divorce!"
Harold thought this trip was for reconciliation. The situation had escalated to such a point, with such a decisive divorce. It seemed inevitable. As a subordinate, Harold couldn't say anything and could only agree with Oscar's decision.
Pearl returned to the TV station. As soon as she parked and got out, she heard Chloe angrily shouting, "Pearl!"
Pearl turned around.
She saw Chloe storming over, ready to slap her. But Pearl, anticipating Chloe's move, caught her hand.
Chloe tried to resist and cursed, "You set me up! While I wasn't paying attention, you found someone to support you. Not only did people donate supplies, but you also caught the editor's eye with your lousy project. Why? What right do you have to steal my spotlight!"
If Chloe caused trouble for the orphanage now, it would only bring trouble for herself.
The station would definitely fire Chloe once they found out.
Moreover, Pearl had people protecting her. Offending others would make it difficult for Chloe to continue her work smoothly in the future.
So, Chloe couldn't do anything to Pearl.
While Chloe was so agitated, Pearl looked at her with a cold smile and shook off her hand. "You can scheme against me behind my back, but I can't defend myself? What do you mean? Besides, didn't I help you arrange a meeting with Oscar? It seems like you don't have what it takes to win him over."
"Do you dare to mock me? I'll make you pay!" Chloe's eyes widened in anger, completely disregarding that they were at the TV station, attracting attention. Her actions immediately drew the security guards, who quickly restrained her.
Pearl didn't take her seriously. "Everyone relies on their own abilities. I won't touch your cake, and you better not touch mine!"
"Before this, you must have said something about me to Oscar. He saw me so angry. You are a sinister and despicable person. If it weren't for you, I would have already won over Oscar!" Chloe refused to admit she couldn't win over Oscar, placing all the blame on Pearl.
"You need to wake up. I've done everything I should. It's you who can't grab it. If you can't, does that mean no one else can?"
"Don't go. You can't leave!" Chloe wanted to harm Pearl, but with several security guards holding her back, preventing her from acting, leaving her to fume helplessly.
Pearl didn't want to get entangled with her.
She returned the car and went straight home after work.
She had been busy all day and felt physically exhausted.
Sitting on the sofa, she broke out in a cold sweat, and her stomach felt a bit uncomfortable.
She decided to take a shower and go to bed.
Opening the wardrobe, she saw Oscar's clothes hanging there and paused for a moment.
They were going to get divorced tomorrow, so what was she thinking?
Pearl took her clothes, closed the wardrobe, and tried not to think about those troubling matters.
All night, Pearl slept uncomfortably.
When she got up, she felt even more exhausted.
She had to go to Civil Affairs Bureau, but she probably couldn't go to work. She needed to rest well today.
At this moment, Oscar's car had been waiting at the Civil Affairs Bureau for half an hour, and there was no sign of Pearl.
They had agreed on eight o'clock.
However, Pearl was half an hour late.
Oscar's face grew colder. She was late for the divorce, showing no respect for him.
Pearl was rushing to get there, but there was a traffic jam on the way, causing her to be late.
As she got out of the taxi, Oscar saw her.
He stepped out of the car with long strides, coldly looking at Pearl. "I'm very busy. If you want a divorce, hurry up. I don't have time to waste on you!"
Oscar's sarcasm didn't bother Pearl. After all, she was late. "There was a traffic jam. I hurried as much as I could. Let's go in now."
Pearl walked ahead of Oscar into the building.
Watching her hurried figure, Oscar's face remained stern, but when he looked down, his expression changed dramatically.
Harold said, "Mrs. Brown, you are bleeding!"
