Chapter 514 Don't Die in Front of Her
After chatting with Mackenzie, Oscar went to find Pearl and Christopher. But before he got to them, he collapsed, catching the attention of the patrolling guards.
Oscar and Pearl were guests of the Eldorians. Seeing Oscar faint, the guards didn't slack off and quickly took him to RavenWing's lab.
Pearl's heart was in her throat when she saw Oscar unconscious. She grabbed a guard and asked, "What's going on?"
The Eldorians had top-notch security. How could Oscar just faint like that? Was it his old injury acting up?
"Ms. Mitchell, Mr. Brown suddenly fainted. We don't know why."
RavenWing stepped in, "Let me take a look."
After examining Oscar, RavenWing's eyes widened in shock. "Oscar's been poisoned. It must be that diplomat from Serenea."
"What?" Pearl's face went pale.
The diplomat from Serenea was one of Charles' people. Charles had arranged for her to poison Oscar, forcing him to return and compromise.
Pearl's heart ached. Life never offers a perfect solution.
She asked hoarsely, "Can you wake him up first?"
"Yes," RavenWing nodded. He and Jeffery worked together, and after more than three hours, Oscar finally woke up, though he was extremely weak and pale.
RavenWing gave Jeffery a look, and they left the room for Oscar and Pearl.
Pearl held Oscar's hand, overwhelmed with emotion. She hugged him tightly. "RavenWing said you were poisoned. It was the diplomat from Serenea. Charles wants you to compromise. Maybe you should go back?"
RavenWing had been against Oscar before, but if he still wanted to harm him, he wouldn't choose this critical moment. Now, RavenWing was wholeheartedly helping them.
Oscar didn't speak, considering Pearl's words. He was at the Eldorians, and his activities were limited. If he were to be poisoned, it would have happened long ago. RavenWing wanted him to speak favorably, so RavenWing wouldn't do it to him at this critical moment.
He had close contact with Mackenzie, who had a faint fragrance. Some women wear perfume, and he didn't pay attention at the time. Now it seemed Mackenzie used herself as bait.
Oscar didn't want to let go. "Pearl, I promised I'd always stay by your side. I won't leave you. Please don't push me away, okay?"
Oscar was humble. He had defended his country and helped David protect the Brown Group. Now he had this simple wish, but it still seemed impossible.
"Oscar, it's not that I'm pushing you away. But you have to face reality. Look at the situation. They came all the way here to poison you; what else can't they do? I'm afraid you'll be caught in the middle. If Charles allows me to be with Christopher, then you should go back."
She had been with Oscar for seven years, and now she wanted to focus on Christopher.
"I said I won't give up on you. Pearl, even if I die, I want to die in front of you. I can't leave you," Oscar said, holding her hand, his eyes red.
Pearl's heart ached. After everything, they should be together, but so many obstacles remained.
"I know. But I want you to live. Oscar, living brings hope; if you die, there's nothing left."
In the past five years, she had seen so much suffering and feared death. She wanted Oscar to live, and he wanted the same for her.
"Pearl, no matter how tough it gets, we can face it together. I'll stay by your and Christopher's side, protecting you both," Oscar said, determined.
Pearl couldn't argue anymore.
Meanwhile, Charles grew impatient and called Oscar. Oscar didn't want to answer but decided he needed to set things straight.
Charles sneered, "Still stubborn, huh? Let's see how long you last."
He had saved Oscar once but now arranged for him to be poisoned. If Oscar didn't comply, he was better off dead.
Oscar didn't care. "You gave me this life. If you want it back, take it."
Charles was furious, but Oscar hung up.
Oscar was still affected by the poison but kept it from Pearl. RavenWing knew, though.
RavenWing approached Oscar privately. "I know you don't want to leave Pearl, but I can't cure the poison. You should go back to Charles. I don't want you to die in front of Pearl or see her suffer. She’s focused on Christopher now."
Oscar was silent for a moment. "I love her. I won't let myself die. If it gets too bad, I'll die far away."
He didn't want Pearl to see, but he also didn't want to leave her.
"But Oscar, if you can avoid dying, why not? Charles is the president of Serenea, you..."
"So you want me to go back to Serenea and not support me being with Pearl?" Oscar interrupted coldly.
Oscar's expression was serious, and Pearl heard everything from a distance.
