Chapter 753 You Want to Run?
"Thanks, Azalea," Saskia said, trying to muster a smile.
She straightened up and followed Azalea up the stairs. The moment she lifted her leg, a sharp pain shot through her lower back.
Nathaniel had been way too rough with her earlier. He was only focused on venting his own anger, not caring about her feelings at all.
Azalea noticed and offered her arm for support. "Saskia, is your back acting up again?" she asked.
"Yeah, it is," Saskia replied.
Azalea's concern deepened. "If you hadn't been working yourself to the bone these past few years, your back wouldn't be this bad. You had no choice before, but now that you have me and George, you don't have to carry all the burden alone."
Saskia couldn't find the words to explain.
Azalea thought her presence would help ease Saskia's stress, but in reality, it only made things worse.
Once they reached the bedroom, Azalea opened the closet and took out some sheets. "George prepared these for you. Although he's not very good with words, he's truly considerate."
Nathaniel not being good with words? That was the funniest joke Saskia had ever heard.
In court, he was a force to be reckoned with. During their romance, he could make Saskia swoon with just a few words. And at the engagement party today, he had her on edge with every sentence.
How could a man like that be described as not being good with words? Unless he just didn't bother with Azalea.
But if that were the case, how could they have any real connection?
Azalea was clearly deceived.
Azalea didn't notice the worry in Saskia's eyes. She turned her back to make the bed and continued sharing her love life. "George arranged everything for the prenatal checkups, the hospital, the doctor. Sometimes I wonder how I got so lucky to meet someone like him."
"Azalea," Saskia couldn't listen anymore. She trembled as she spoke, "Do you really think he's a good person?"
Azalea turned around and held Saskia's hands, speaking earnestly. "Saskia, I know you're worried, but I'm not a child anymore. I can tell if he's good to me or not. Stop asking me this. We truly love each other."
Since the engagement party, Saskia had been harping on this topic. Azalea couldn't understand what Saskia was so worried about, but one thing was clear: Azalea was determined to be with George.
"You're right. You two are so close, and it's inappropriate for me to say these things," Saskia admitted. Even though they were sisters, she shouldn't interfere too much in Azalea's love life.
If she meddled too much, Azalea would only resent her.
The only thing Saskia could do now was deal with Nathaniel. If she complied with all his demands, maybe he would leave Azalea alone.
Saskia wasn't sure, but the only thing she could do now was give it a try.
After making the bed, Azalea chatted with Saskia for a while before heading back to her own room. With just a wall between them, Saskia could hear voices from the other side, but couldn't make out the words.
It felt like her heart was being squeezed by an invisible hand, tightening with each sound.
As time passed, her anxiety grew. Every little noise outside made her jump.
Nathaniel had said he would come tonight, and he always kept his word.
Finally, there was a knock at the door.
Saskia hesitated. The door was locked. If she pretended to be asleep, could she avoid him tonight?
As for what would happen tomorrow, she would deal with it then.
But then her phone rang, its jarring sound breaking the silence of the room, just as the knocking grew louder.
Saskia glanced at her phone. It was a text from Nathaniel: [I know you're not asleep. Either open the door, or I'll knock louder and wake Azalea. Let's give her a show.]
Nathaniel was willing to let Azalea see Saskia with him? How could he be so ruthless?
Seeing this message, Saskia rushed to open the door, tears streaming down her face. She said, "Please, stop knocking."
"Weren't you just pretending to sleep?" Nathaniel wasn't in a hurry to enter.
He stood at the door, gripping Saskia's neck. "How about we do this in the hallway?" he asked.
He practically dragged her to the door of the next bedroom and pushed her against it.
Saskia's body went rigid.
Just a door away, Azalea was sleeping soundly, while outside, Saskia was with her supposed brother-in-law.
What Nathaniel was doing now was almost more painful than if he had just stabbed her in the heart.
"Let's go back to the room, not here," Saskia pleaded, her boundaries crumbling.
Nathaniel leaned in and replied, "Give me one good reason."
He was forcing her to compromise her pride, just to unleash his anger.
Saskia, crying, said, "I'll do what you said at the engagement party."
Nathaniel pressed, "Which part?"
They both knew what she meant, but Nathaniel played dumb. "Say it clearly. We've been apart for so long, and you can't expect me to be as understanding as before."
"I'll be your..." Saskia couldn't finish the sentence.
She bit her lip, her face flushed with shame and anger, tears falling steadily.
Nathaniel waited patiently, maintaining his stance, waiting for her to give in.
Suddenly, Azalea's voice came from the room. "George?"
She was awake.
Saskia panicked. If Azalea came out and saw them, she'd be furious.
But Nathaniel's actions became more brazen. "Say it, or I'll go in," he said.
"A dog, I'll be your dog. Is that enough?" Saskia finally said.
Nathaniel got what he wanted.
He picked Saskia up and carried her to the bed, leaving the door open.
Saskia tried to get up, but Nathaniel pulled her back. "Trying to run? You ran once four years ago. Now you want to run again, right in front of me? What do you take me for?"
