Chapter 502 I Promise to Cure Him
Jeffery's eyes widened in shock. "I have no idea. I was called by the army and just returned today."
Louis got it.
He signaled with a glance. "Just do the paternity test between him and me."
"Okay."
But when Jeffery tried to draw Christopher's blood, the kid fought back like a wild animal.
Christopher bolted.
Louis gently coaxed, "I'm just checking if you're sick. We're Pearl's friends. We won't hurt you."
"You're lying!" Christopher managed to say.
Louis was surprised; he didn't expect Christopher to talk.
Determined, he moved to catch Christopher, but the boy ran into someone's arms.
Louis looked closer—it was Pearl.
Next to her was a man in a black mask. Louis recognized him by his sharp eyes.
"Oscar?" Louis blurted out.
"It's me," Oscar replied hoarsely.
They had rushed back to the Tranquiloria military base in just two hours. Pearl was desperate to see Christopher, so they sped all the way.
Because of Oscar's identity, he had to wear a mask.
Christopher looked at Pearl, tears in his eyes, and she was the same.
She knelt down, grabbed his hand, and hugged him tightly. "Christopher, I'm sorry I'm late."
Louis and Jeffery realized Pearl already knew Christopher was her and Oscar's child.
Since Oscar wasn't dead, they would reunite. Jeffery knew it was time to leave.
Jeffery gave Louis a look, and Louis understood, leaving them alone.
Oscar took off his mask, and Christopher recognized him, slowly walking up with his head down.
Oscar stayed silent, then pulled Christopher into his arms.
Pearl watched. It was a simple moment, but for them, it was five years overdue. Even in the future, it would be a rare luxury.
Pearl said, "Christopher will be safe with me. I'll take him back to Willow Creek. We can live well there. You can visit us anytime."
On their way back, Oscar held Pearl's hand the whole time. They didn't speak, but their hearts were united. Now, Pearl brought it up again.
"No matter what Charles says, I won't accept it. Pearl, I want to be with you and Christopher."
He had always felt this way, but now it was urgent.
Pearl felt awful.
She wanted to be with Oscar too, but his subordinates said he was being groomed as a successor. How could he go back to his old life?
"Oscar, don't go against Charles. He cares about you. If you weren't his son, he wouldn't care," Pearl said calmly.
When Oscar tried to speak, Pearl cut him off, "Don't say anything. I want you to live, and I don't want you to break with Charles."
Pearl took Christopher's hand and led him to find something to eat.
She decided to quit her job as a war correspondent and take Christopher back to Willow Creek for a normal life. She'd work while he went to school.
Oscar stayed silent, seeing Pearl wasn't in the mood to talk.
Meanwhile, Jeffery's serious expression said it all. He had hoped that with Oscar gone, he might have a chance with Pearl. But despite his efforts over the past five years, she never loved him.
Now that Oscar and their child were alive, his chances were even slimmer. But he just wanted Pearl to be happy.
Louis was on Pearl's side. He'd support her no matter who she chose.
Louis warned Jeffery, "Don't let love turn into hate. If you mess with Pearl and Oscar, I won't let you off!"
Jeffery was so obsessed with Pearl that Louis feared he might go crazy.
Pearl was his only sister. She hadn't been able to let go of Oscar for five years, and now that their child was alive, he naturally wanted her to be happy.
Jeffery laughed bitterly, "If I wanted to harm Oscar, I would have done it five years ago."
During the five years Oscar was away, Jeffery didn't make any moves. He wanted to win Pearl over through his own efforts, but she remained unmoved.
He had turned himself into a normal person, running a clinic in Serenea. He had his own life now, but he'd always be there for Pearl if she needed him.
"You better keep thinking that way!" Louis scolded firmly.
For Pearl, no matter the obstacles between her and Oscar, Louis would clear them away.
Pearl's return alarmed the Tranquiloria military, especially since she brought Oscar back.
Tranquiloria had to find her, so Elijah and Nicholas came personally. They were Oscar's old subordinates and could recognize him instantly, even from behind.
"Mr. Brown!" they said in unison.
Oscar's breath hitched, and Pearl left them space.
As Pearl led Christopher out of the tent, she locked eyes with Jeffery.
When she hugged Christopher, she realized Jeffery, under Louis's arrangement, wanted to do a paternity test between Louis and Christopher.
"Pearl, Christopher might have an autism," Jeffery said, walking quickly toward her.
Christopher initially didn't speak, and when he did, his speech was slow. Jeffery had already noticed these signs.
Pearl looked at Christopher. "Yes, I was planning to find you. I didn't expect Louis to find you first. I hope you can help him."
As a mother, she naturally hoped Christopher would be healthy and lively.
"I promise to help him," Jeffery said.
This was what Pearl hoped for, so he would naturally do it.
Soon, Oscar walked out of the tent, mask off, followed by Elijah and Nicholas.
At that moment, Pearl realized that with Oscar's identity, Elijah and Nicholas could provide significant help.
