Chapter 457 Thoughts
Carol felt pretty smug.
At that time, she saw Pearl back down and sensed her fear.
Her smugness didn't last. Louis grabbed her wrist tight.
Next thing she knew, he tossed her aside.
Louis marched over, standing in front of Pearl, eyes cold and fierce. "What are you doing?"
"Louis, she bullied me. She doesn't respect me," Carol sobbed.
She was good at turning on the tears.
Louis smirked. "Really?"
"Really," Carol nodded.
Seeing his smile, Carol felt less sure. "Louis, you don't believe me?"
"I know what kind of person Pearl is and why you're after her. Don't come to me again."
Louis's voice was icy.
Pearl stayed expressionless.
But to Carol, Pearl looked smug.
Carol clenched her fists, confused. "Louis, why are you defending her? I'm your sister."
Her voice grew hoarse.
Louis didn't want to see her. "Everything has a reason. Now, leave. I won't say it again."
Carol ran off crying.
Since she arrived, Louis never liked her.
Now, he was siding with Pearl. If she didn't leave, who knows what he'd do in his anger.
And she didn't want Pearl to see her humiliated.
As soon as Carol left, Pearl distanced herself from Louis.
Louis's voice softened. "Using me and then ditching me?"
Louis was helping her because he thought Pearl might be his sister. Once the test results came back negative, he wouldn't be so kind.
Oscar was out and safe.
Even if she might die in the end, she couldn't just wait around and do nothing.
"Didn't you see? Carol's targeting me and so was RavenWing. I know what's up."
Pearl was thinking of an escape plan.
She knew some self-defense, but Carol was better. Louis was RavenWing's son; she could use him.
"I know you don't want to die. Whether it's true or not, if you can lure Jeffery here, I'll let you go anytime."
Louis laid out his plan, leaving Pearl silent.
She thought about Jeffery, their encounters, his kind words, and his efforts to cure her.
Pearl smiled. "Didn't I make it clear? Why are you so obsessed? If Carol weren't your sister, would RavenWing let her stay here?"
RavenWing wasn't dumb. She didn't get why Louis was so insistent.
Pearl added, "If you don't trust Carol, why not get a test done with her?"
"Pearl, you're smart and sharp-tongued, but that's not what I want to hear. Don't forget, you're in Eldorian territory now."
Without his protection, Pearl would've been tortured by now. Yet, she was still so defiant.
But he couldn't be too harsh. Louis couldn't bring himself to hurt Pearl.
Pearl chuckled. "I get it. You have your goals, and I can't stop you. Just keep Carol away from me."
"I know," Louis replied, even though he could've ignored her.
Pearl had found Barbara and Adrian, so she didn't need to go to the slave camp anymore. But she said, "I'm not restricted, right? I want to go to the slave camp to find someone."
Louis looked at her. "Don't you still have the black card?"
The black card was still with Pearl. If she wanted to go out, she wasn't restricted.
Pearl pressed her lips together. "Then let Giovanni follow me."
Who knew if crazy Carol would show up again? She wasn't ready to die yet.
"Okay," Louis agreed, always accommodating to Pearl.
Pearl went to the slave camp and found Chiara.
"Can I take her to my old room?" Pearl asked Giovanni.
To Giovanni, Pearl was just taking a fifteen-year-old girl who had been stuck in the slave camp and was of no use.
Plus, Louis had told him to fulfill Pearl's requests as long as they weren't excessive.
Giovanni nodded.
Pearl took Chiara to her old room.
She saw Chiara had many new wounds.
Luckily, the room hadn't been touched, and there were still medicines. Pearl pulled Chiara to sit by the bed and carefully treated her wounds.
Chiara saw Pearl as her savior. "You've been here so long without a scratch. Even Giovanni protects you. With his high status, can't you get me out? I don't want to stay here anymore."
Chiara had thought about dying before, but she also wanted to live. If she had to die, she wanted to die outside, not be stuck here forever.
Pearl finished applying the medicine and helped her pull up her clothes. "I came to find you with that intention. Are male and female slaves always separated?"
Pearl thought they were separated but still had times when they interacted.
She needed to save herself.
Since the civil war started, RavenWing wouldn't immediately realize the slaves might rebel, so they could use the chaos to escape.
Even if they couldn't escape, she wanted to hurt RavenWing badly.
"No. We gather during training. Why are you asking? Planning a revolt?" Chiara asked, then realized the issue.
Pearl pressed her lips together and nodded. "There's strength in numbers. Just the two of us have no chance."
"RavenWing is powerful, and we have no weapons. If we revolt, it's a death wish. I don't have that kind of ability. I just want freedom and to live my own life."
Chiara initially thought Pearl came to rescue her, but she realized Pearl just wanted to use her.
"If you don't cooperate, you won't get another chance like this."
