Chapter 820 Children Cannot Lie
Saskia left work early to pick up Benjamin from school.
When Nathaniel found out, he insisted on coming along. "I'll drive you. It's Benjamin's first day of school, and I want to see how he's doing."
Saskia didn't hesitate for long.
Nathaniel was Benjamin's father, after all. It was natural for him to be concerned.
They arrived at the kindergarten and parked nearby. Despite their efforts to be discreet, the car still attracted a lot of attention.
Most of the kids thought it was super cool.
Benjamin had made a new friend who recognized the car and pointed it out. "I've seen that car before. It's really expensive. Even my dad doesn't have one."
Benjamin glanced at it. "That's my mom's friend's car."
His friend immediately thought he was bragging and insisted it wasn't possible.
Benjamin patiently tried to explain.
But kids can be stubborn, and when his friend wouldn't believe him, Benjamin got frustrated. "I told you, it's my mom's friend's car. I'm not lying."
His friend crossed his arms. "Then get the person in the car to come out. Can you do that?"
"Of course, I can..."
"Benjamin, what are you talking about?"
Saskia's voice interrupted, and Benjamin ran to her, clinging to her clothes and explaining what had happened.
Saskia listened and didn't know what to say.
The car did belong to Nathaniel.
But explaining that to a child seemed a bit much.
However, the other kid looked up at her seriously. "Are you Benjamin's mom? Why don't you teach him that kids shouldn't lie? My mom teaches me that."
"Benjamin isn't lying. That car really did bring me here," Saskia explained.
She thought that would be enough.
But the sharp little boy's face showed a complex expression. "Grown-ups lie too."
Before Saskia could respond, Benjamin protested, "My mom doesn't lie!"
Then the two kids started arguing back and forth.
Saskia was taken aback.
Not far away, Nora heard the commotion and came over to intervene. "You two, stop fighting."
Saskia also tried to calm Benjamin down.
At that moment, Nathaniel walked over and picked Benjamin up from her arms.
"Benjamin, how was your first day of school?"
"Mr. Egan."
Benjamin buried his head in Nathaniel's shoulder, feeling misunderstood and accused by his new friend.
Nathaniel gently patted him to comfort him.
The kid who had been arguing with Benjamin fell silent.
When Benjamin finally felt better, the other child spoke hesitantly, "So you weren't lying."
Benjamin looked up to see the kid staring in awe at Nathaniel, who had just gotten out of the fancy car and was holding Benjamin.
The kid realized Benjamin hadn't lied.
He blushed with guilt. "I'm sorry, Benjamin. I shouldn't have said you were lying or blamed your mom."
"It's okay. I forgive you. But don't blame my mom again. She's really nice," Benjamin said magnanimously.
Back in the car, Saskia praised Benjamin.
"Benjamin, you were great. So generous. I'm so proud of you."
"Mom, stop it."
Benjamin blushed and buried his head again, making Saskia want to tease him more.
"To reward Benjamin, let's cook dinner at home tonight. I'll make it," Saskia decided.
Benjamin's first reaction was, "Will Mr. Egan come too?"
Nathaniel looked at Saskia, his deep eyes flickering slightly. He raised an eyebrow. "That's up to your mom."
Both pairs of eyes turned to Saskia.
They looked so alike, like they were cut from the same mold.
It was hard to remain unaffected under such a gaze.
Saskia sighed. "Sure, let's all go. We can stop by the store on the way. The more, the merrier."
The supermarket was nearby.
Saskia carried Benjamin inside. He was sweet and charming, making the clerks smile and give them extra items.
Saskia was a regular, and many people greeted her.
Some noticed Nathaniel with her and were curious. "Saskia, is that your husband?"
Saskia paused.
"Yes, I'm Saskia's husband," Nathaniel answered before she could.
She glared at him, and he corrected himself. "Future husband."
The middle-aged woman who had asked looked understanding. "I get it. Young love is wonderful. It's great that Saskia found someone she likes."
Then she handed Saskia some celery.
Saskia tried to refuse, but the woman insisted, so she accepted it.
By the time they got home, it was evening. The sun was setting, and they held hands at the door.
Saskia had her hands full and couldn't open the door.
Nathaniel naturally took the bags from her. "I'll carry these. You open the door."
Saskia didn't mind the small gesture and opened the door, ready to put the groceries away.
But Nathaniel took them straight to the kitchen and looked like he wasn't leaving.
"Are you going to cook?" she asked, unsure, her eyes scanning his lean but strong frame.
Nathaniel raised an eyebrow, as if he knew what she was thinking. "Think I can't cook? You can watch."
He gently pushed her out.
Saskia didn't even have a chance to refuse.
On the couch, Benjamin was watching cartoons. He smiled and called her over to join him.
Saskia glanced at Nathaniel, who was already busy in the kitchen, and decided to sit down and watch TV with Benjamin.
After a while, Benjamin clutched his stomach. "Mom, I'm hungry."
Saskia looked toward the kitchen. She could already smell something delicious.
It seemed to be going well.
She found a small packet of cookies. "Have a little snack, but not too much, or you won't have room for dinner."
Benjamin obediently nibbled on the cookies.
Soon after, the food was ready. Saskia was curious and took a look, surprised.
The dishes looked and smelled amazing, even better than her own cooking.
Nathaniel dried his hands, looking quite at home in just his shirt. "Well? I didn't lie, did I?"
"So many dishes. Mr. Egan, you're amazing," Benjamin said, echoing Saskia's thoughts.
Meanwhile, a video of Nathaniel at the Egan Group had been leaked.
When he found out who leaked it, he felt like his whole life had been a joke.
