Chapter 334 See Her One Last Time
Barbara thought Pearl had changed too fast.
Even though she didn't know Pearl well, she had offered to help, but Pearl turned her down.
Most people would focus on survival if their life was at risk.
Pearl pushing everyone away seemed odd.
Barbara figured Pearl didn't want to drag them down.
Jeffery agreed with Barbara. When Pearl learned about his complicated background, she didn't resist, but now she was distancing herself from everyone.
Maybe Adrian's risky trip to the Eldorians made her feel guilty, and she didn't want to involve anyone else.
Still, Jeffery respected Pearl's wishes. "No matter what, I'll save her life. If she doesn't want to see us, we won't let her. As long as she's comfortable, that's what matters."
Jeffery didn't have a good solution either.
The poison in her body had no cure.
Despite many experiments, he couldn't create a real antidote.
He was trying, and they all were.
If it were easy, The Crimson Eclipse Society wouldn't still exist!
Barbara asked, "So what now? Her poison will flare up again. Didn't you see her arm? It's already bruising."
Pearl's arm was showing bruises, though not very obvious yet.
It indicated the poison was spreading, hurting her body, and Jeffery's help was only treating the symptoms, not the cause.
Once the poison developed resistance, his help might be useless.
Jeffery frowned. "I'll find a way!"
When Pearl woke up, she was on the couch, alone.
Feeling strange, she heard a voice from the kitchen. "Hey, you're awake!"
Janetta came out with a bowl of chicken soup. Seeing Pearl awake, she sighed in relief and put the soup on the table.
It was too hot, so she put her hand to her ear.
Seeing Janetta, Pearl felt a bit dazed. "Why are you here?"
Janetta said, "I missed you, so I came to see you. You were asleep, and I was worried!"
"Come on, I made you some chicken soup."
Pearl was puzzled. "Was anyone around when you came?"
"No, you were just on the couch, sleeping. Have you been too tired lately?" Janetta sat next to her.
Pearl thought she had been talking to Barbara before this.
She was confused.
Seeing the chicken soup Janetta made, Pearl said gently, "I remember you're not good at cooking."
"For the baby, I tried cooking for the first time. It was a hassle!" Janetta usually avoided cooking.
She saw Pearl was too thin and pregnant, feeling sorry for her.
"Thanks, Janetta. It's so good to have you." Pearl accepted her kindness and quickly drank the soup.
"How is it?" Janetta asked eagerly.
Pearl nodded. "Not bad."
Janetta beamed. "I do have some talent!"
"Why do you have bruises on your arm? Did you bump into something?" Janetta noticed the faint marks.
Pearl realized it, paused a few seconds and quickly pulled down her sleeve. "I might have bumped into something. You know I've been on set lately."
"Be more careful," Janetta said. "You're pregnant, so don't push yourself too hard."
"How can I not push myself? Are you going to support me?" Pearl joked.
Janetta patted her chest. "I'll support you."
Her straightforward answer made Pearl smile even more. "It's so good to have you. I can freeload, but I still need to have dreams."
Janetta asked, "Have you and Oscar not reconciled yet?"
Pearl paused. "We can't reconcile."
Janetta looked puzzled. "Really? Are you done for good this time?"
Even though she knew they were divorced, Janetta still hoped they might get back together.
"What are you thinking? We ended a long time ago," Pearl said with a smile.
Janetta got serious. "You're carrying his child, and he still broke up with you? Does that make sense? Is he not going to take care of the child? Is there something I don't know about between you two? There must be something wrong!"
Pearl didn't want to dwell on it. "You don't need to worry about it. I haven't seen him in a long time."
Janetta hated seeing her like this.
Pearl was focused on her career but risking everything for it. If she lost this gamble, what would she do? If Oscar didn't take responsibility, how hard would it be for her and the child?
Thinking this way, Oscar seemed like a real jerk.
'Did I really misjudge him?' Janetta was afraid Pearl would suffer.
She couldn't believe their relationship had broken down so quickly.
If it were true, Janetta would never believe in love again!
After Pearl finished the soup, she pulled up her sleeve and looked at the faint bruises on her arm while Janetta was in the kitchen cleaning up.
'Is my poison worsening? How much longer can I live?' Pearl wasn't sure, but now that her arm had bruises, could the hospital detect the poison in her body? 'Could the doctors find out if the poison was affecting the baby?'
She had gone to the hospital several times to check her condition.
The hospital had no results.
She held on to a glimmer of hope and wanted to go again.
Pearl didn't want to worry Janetta, so she didn't tell her the truth about the poisoning.
After Janetta left, Pearl went to the hospital.
But she didn't expect Janetta to follow her.
Janetta had a feeling that Pearl had changed, becoming much thinner than when she last saw her.
If it were for love, she had been heartbroken over Oscar for years but never looked like this.
Plus, Jeffery had instructed her to take good care of Pearl, which made her even more worried.
But she saw that Pearl didn't go to the obstetrics department but to the hematology department.
This made Janetta even more puzzled, and she immediately made a phone call. "Pearl is in danger, she's at the hospital now. If you still have feelings for her, come see her one last time!"
Without waiting for Oscar's response, she hung up.
At this moment, Pearl had a large tube of blood drawn.
She felt a bit dizzy.
She lay on a bed full of instruments, undergoing various tests.
The smell of disinfectant made Pearl feel nauseous, but she held it in, her face slightly pale.
She was anxious.
She was afraid the poison would affect the baby.
Her hand kept stroking her belly.
If the baby was affected, what would she do?
Would she have to abort the baby?
But she had felt the baby move for the first time, and she sensed that the baby wanted to live.
She couldn't bear to do it.
Aborting the baby would be like taking her own life.
Thinking of this, Pearl's emotions became even more complicated.
"Pearl!"
