Chapter 497 Daughter of the Devil

News broke that Pearl's real dad was RavenWing from the Eldorians, along with details of past chaos within the group. This included stories of rude subordinates, slave camps, and human experiments.

Pearl got labeled as the "Daughter of the Devil," causing a huge stir online.

[Who knew the kind-hearted journalist calling for peace is the devil's daughter? Look at her dad, pure evil!]

[Only we in Tranquiloria are tolerant enough to not hold the Eldorians accountable for peace.]

[Exactly! Otherwise, we would've wiped them out long ago!]

[Pearl's actions are laughable. Her dad's a devil, and she wants to be a justice warrior.]

[She's in Willow Creek, so she must be a spy sent by RavenWing!]

[She was Oscar's wife, and he died in Eldorians. She must've caused his death!]

[She doesn't deserve to be a journalist!]

[Let's report her! Let the Tranquiloria army arrest Pearl and bring her to justice!]

[Kill her!]

Pearl saw all these comments.

She reported news to uphold justice and call for peace, which is why she checked international forums. But her reports hadn't made an impact yet.

Despite everything she'd been through in the past five years, those words still hurt.

Louis put his arm around Pearl's shoulder, "Carol, if these people don't accept you, come back with me to the Eldorians. There's always a place for you there."

Pearl didn't respond. She looked at Louis, confused and doubtful.

"Carol, I want you to come back, but I'd never use such dirty tricks. If I wanted to, I wouldn't have let you come to Serenea as a war correspondent," Louis said seriously.

Pearl stayed silent, thinking about Louis's words.

He was right. If he wanted to act, he had five years to do so. But his last sentence shocked her.

Pearl couldn't believe her chance to be a war correspondent in Serenea was thanks to Louis and RavenWing!

"I know you don't believe it. But not just anyone can become a war correspondent," Louis saw her doubts and continued. "Pearl, Oscar also played a part in this."

Pearl frowned even more.

Five years ago, news of Oscar's death was everywhere, but Louis said Oscar played a part in this. She didn't understand, but before she could ask, Louis continued, "Don't forget, even if he's dead, he still has subordinates in the army."

Elijah and Nicholas also held important positions.

And they'd been promoted over the past five years!

Pearl's throat tightened, and she didn't know what to say.

"Let's go. Now that this has happened, the Tranquiloria army will definitely investigate you."

"I'm not leaving." Pearl shook her head. "I'm not a spy, and I haven't done anything wrong."

If she left, people would just think she was running away out of guilt.

But Pearl also realized that with Louis still around, those people might target him. She pressed her lips together, looking serious. "Louis, you should go first."

"Do you think I can leave you here alone?" Louis grabbed Pearl's hand. He couldn't leave her behind.

Plus, given the current relationship between the Eldorians and Tranquiloria, Tranquiloria wouldn't detain him.

Oscar's death had been reported and investigated.

Pearl didn't know what to say.

She wasn't a spy, but Tranquiloria needed to give people an explanation, so she had to undergo an investigation, including her recent call records.

Pearl was about to be taken away, but Christopher wouldn't let her go, holding her hand tightly.

Pearl squatted down and patiently explained, "Christopher, stay with Louis. I'm just going with these soldiers to handle some things. Be good, okay?"

After instructing Christopher, Pearl looked up at Louis.

That hopeful look said it all, even though she didn't say a word. Louis understood.

Louis pressed his lips together and said, "Don't worry. I'll take good care of him."

Louis knew Pearl well. She needed to clear her name, not leave in suspicion. Since Christopher was her biggest concern, he would take care of him for her.

As soon as Pearl left, Louis held Christopher's hand. "Who sent you here? You don't seem like someone who can't speak."

In the days he'd been with Pearl, he'd never seen Christopher speak. He seemed mute.

However, Christopher's thoughts and expressions were not those of a typical five-year-old.

Christopher's sudden appearance by Pearl's side was unexpected.

But Christopher ignored Louis.

Louis couldn't take action against him, so he continued, "I don't care who sent you or what your purpose is. But don't think about hurting Pearl or staying by her side forever!"

Christopher just glanced at Louis and said nothing.

Meanwhile, Pearl wasn't taken for an investigation; she was put into a car. When she realized something was wrong, a sack was thrown over her.

As she struggled, she was knocked out.

She didn't know how much time had passed when she woke up, still feeling the car bumping along.

She wasn't dead, and her mouth wasn't sealed.

She tried to speak, "Who are you?"

No one responded.

Pearl continued, "I am Oscar's widow, and I am also an Eldorian..."

Before she could finish, Larry Walker interrupted, "Ms. Harris, you have always been unwilling to acknowledge your identity, haven't you? How come at the last moment, you finally remember your identity? It seems that family ties are not important; your own life is more important."

Larry's voice was not altered, but it was unfamiliar to Pearl.

It couldn't be someone from the Eldorians, nor could it be Kevin. Could he be one of Kevin's remnants?

Pearl gathered her thoughts and coldly said, "If something happens to me, do you think you can use me to trade for Kevin?"

Pearl was smart and composed. Even now, she remained calm and unshaken.
