Chapter 770 Malice Arises
Azalea said, "I found out Saskia was pregnant when she was almost due. She was heartbroken and in a really bad state, so I didn't want to ask her anything that might hurt her. But I suspect Benjamin is her ex-boyfriend's kid."
Saskia's ex-boyfriend? That would be Nathaniel.
Nathaniel kept his cool as he dug deeper. "So why did Saskia break up with her ex? If they had a kid, they really should have gotten married, just like we did."
Azalea shrugged, "Maybe her ex didn't want to get married. I don't really know the details. Saskia never told me."
The conversation was casual, but Nathaniel was all ears.
Nathaniel's lips curled into a mocking smile.
Saskia was something else.
She dumped him out of nowhere, leaving him in pieces, and then played the victim in front of Azalea.
Nathaniel, the real victim, was painted as the bad guy.
"It's been four years now. Benjamin has grown so much. I've told Saskia plenty of times that she should move on, find a good guy, and get married. It would be good for both her and Benjamin," Azalea continued, completely missing the storm brewing in Nathaniel's eyes.
Nathaniel would never let Saskia find another man, let alone get married.
"Alright, you go rest. I need to head to the firm. I just took on a new case and need to discuss it with the client," Nathaniel said, wanting to end the conversation.
Azalea gave him a few more reminders before getting out of the car.
As he watched her walk away, Nathaniel's thoughts shifted to Saskia, and frustration welled up inside him.
He drove to the law firm, hoping to bury himself in work to avoid overthinking.
---
Maplewood Estates.
Saskia arrived at her employer's house, first straightening up the pet bowls and setting out some canned food, then getting to work cleaning the entire house.
On the bookshelf in the living room, a camera sat with its red light flashing.
Saskia noticed it but didn't mind. It was normal for employers to have cameras, and it was actually a good thing for her. If anything went missing, the footage would prove her innocence.
What she didn't know was that someone was watching her through the camera.
Two hours passed quickly. Saskia had cleaned most of the house, leaving only a few corners.
She leaned against the window to take a short break.
Suddenly, she heard the door open. The man of the house had returned.
He asked, "Who's here?"
"I'm the cleaner for today, here to tidy up," Saskia quickly walked over and introduced herself.
The man looked her up and down. Her smooth skin and great figure made her even more attractive in person than on camera.
The man swallowed hard and turned to the fridge to get some fruit. He said, "You look exhausted. Sit down and take a break."
"No need, I'll be done soon. Then I'll take the dog for a walk. You can pay me afterward," Saskia replied, not intending to sit.
She knew better than to take such offers seriously, especially when the table was laden with expensive fruit. She was there to work, not to be a guest. The man didn't push it.
He munched on some fruit and chatted with Saskia, "The cleaners before were all middle-aged women. You're young and pretty. You could easily get a job as a receptionist and make money without all this hard work."
Saskia had heard this line a million times. "But cleaning pays well," she replied.
Even the agency's staff had pointed out how unusual it was to see someone her age in this line of work.
If Saskia had a choice, she wouldn't be doing this either.
But no one was there to help her, and Benjamin urgently needed medical expenses. Even though Azalea lent Saskia money, it all had to be repaid.
If she had to earn money for medical bills, she'd rather do it herself. It might be tiring, but she felt at ease spending the money she earned through hard work.
"Do you have a younger brother?" the man asked, his eyes fixed on her. A certain part of him was already reacting.
Saskia was wiping the TV stand with her back to him. "I have no brother, but I have a son. I'm saving up for his medical bills."
The man initially thought she was joking. "You must be kidding. You have such a great figure. How could you be a mother?"
His wife had given birth two years ago and had gained a lot of weight, reaching 150 pounds at her heaviest. Post-pregnancy, her belly was loose and flabby, and she looked like a pig to him, making sex unappealing.
But Saskia, with her slim waist and curvy hips, was a different story. She was desirable.
"I'm serious. My son is over three years old," Saskia replied, unaware of the man's dirty thoughts, responding casually.
Realizing she wasn't joking, the man's expression changed.
If she had a child, it meant she was married, making it harder to seduce her.
The man said, "The house is almost clean. It's windy outside today, so no need to walk the dog. Are you heading home yourself, or is your husband picking you up?"
"I'll go home myself. He's busy with work," Saskia said, keeping her guard up.
As a woman out in the world, it was safer to say she had a husband than to admit she was single.
But she didn't know that this man was a lawless rogue.
With her husband not around and just the two of them in the house, he could do whatever he wanted.
He stood up from the couch and walked towards Saskia. Just as he was about to reach out, the door opened again.
This time, it was the lady of the house, his wife.
The man quickly retracted his hand and sat back on the couch, continuing to eat fruit.
But the fruit now tasted sour and bitter, not sweet at all.
"The cleaning is excellent. You're much more thorough than the previous cleaners. How many hours did you work today? I'll pay you now, and we can arrange for you to come regularly," the woman said, pleased with the cleanliness of the house.
Their house was large, and they were generous with their payments. They had hoped to find a good cleaner, but the previous ones had all been lazy and tried to cheat them out of more money.
Except for Saskia, who had done a great job today.
"That'll be $125," Saskia said.
