Chapter 565 The Davies Family
Archie grabbed the breakfast from the butler, unwrapped everything, and set it up on the small table, his precise moves making the butler's jaw drop.
"Mr. Davies, let me handle it." the butler, always scheming, wanted to see if Magdalen was really Archie's girl or just some actress hired to mess with Annette Davies.
Archie saw right through him and snapped, "What? You wanna take care of my girl now? Just 'cause I haven't been home in years, you think you can forget my rules?"
"I wouldn't dare. Just trying to serve you. But if you got it, I'll bounce," the butler said.
Archie waved him off and sat by the bed, feeding Magdalen some porridge. "Careful, it's hot. This stuff's good for you. If you like it, I'll have them make it for you. Whatever you want, they'll cook it."
"Promise me you won't lie," Magdalen said.
Gotta make the act convincing. Magdalen playfully rolled her eyes at him, a scene that quickly spread through the Davies family grapevine.
The butler had been gone for a bit, but Archie kept feeding Magdalen breakfast. She leaned back, refusing.
Archie got the hint, grinned, and put down the bowl. "You can handle it yourself. By the way, I'm Archie from the Davies family in Willow Creek. Not sure if you've heard of us, but whatever. Titles are just elder's nonsense; they don't mean squat."
"So, what does count as honor?" Magdalen knew all about the Davies family and their high expectations but had never met anyone from the clan.
It was her first time, and she couldn't help but be curious.
"Building your own empire is honor. Especially for a guy, if you rely on your family, you're not a real man." Archie suddenly leaned in. "You cool with pretending to be my girlfriend? I really don't wanna do these blind dates. If you're down, I might need your help again..."
"No way, I do mind," Magdalen shot back; this was a no-go for her.
Seeing Archie's annoyed look, she grabbed her handbag. "Thanks for last night, but I helped you out too, so let's call it even and not see each other again." Worried about getting tangled up, she bolted.
Magdalen didn't come home all night, and Oscar was waiting for her at her place.
When Magdalen rushed in, Oscar instinctively checked her over to make sure she was okay. Seeing her clothes neat and no marks on her face or neck, he finally relaxed.
He got up from the sofa and asked, "Where were you last night?"
"Didn't you tell me to go to the party?" Magdalen rolled her eyes at him. "Oscar, what were you thinking? A matchmaking party? Do I need to go on blind dates?"
Oscar awkwardly rubbed his nose. "You don't, but I just wanted you to find someone and not get played again."
Hearing this, Magdalen remembered how she almost got caught by Marvin last night and was filled with anger. But she couldn't take it out on Oscar, so she stomped upstairs.
She bumped into Pearl, who immediately smelled the disinfectant on her.
Pearl asked, "Did you go to the hospital last night? What happened? Are you okay?"
"Nothing major. Marvin drugged me, but someone saved me and took me to the hospital. It's all Oscar's fault; if he hadn't made me go to that party, Marvin wouldn't have had the chance." Magdalen shot daggers at Oscar.
Pearl, knowing about the matchmaking party, patted Magdalen to comfort her. "Alright, Oscar meant well but messed up. You probably didn't sleep well. Go take a nap, and I'll whip up something nice for lunch."
"You're the best." Magdalen kissed her on the cheek and happily ran upstairs.
Pearl noticed a different kind of smile in Oscar's eyes, like a cunning hunter.
She walked up to him, wrapped her arms around his, and leaned in. "Mr. Brown, is there somethingyou're not telling me?"
With a beauty in his arms, Oscar couldn't resist and kissed her passionately, almost making Pearl run out of breath.
"Tell me, what's the good news?" She was a bit embarrassed, annoyed at herself for still getting breathless from a kiss after all this time.
Oscar whispered in her ear, "The person who saved Magdalen last night was Archie."
Archie? It took Pearl a moment to recall him.
He was a restless person, what did that have to do with good news?
She wanted to ask Oscar but understood when she saw the smile in his eyes. "Magdalen is quite popular, but could there be a conspiracy?"
Marvin was already troublesome, and now with the Davies family involved, neither she nor Oscar might be able to handle it.
Oscar wasn't worried about any conspiracy from Archie. With the Davies family's wealth and status, they didn't need to use such underhanded tactics to gain more.
If there was a conspiracy, could it be that their ambition was so great they wanted to take over the Brown Group?
Oscar chuckled, "Not likely. It's probably just a coincidence, or romantically speaking, their fate."
"We'll find out soon enough if it's fate. Go change; today's client used to be with the Davies Family. Maybe we can get some information from them," Pearl urged.
Reminded by Pearl, Oscar nodded in agreement and gave her another domineering kiss.
In the top-floor reception room of the Brown Group, a man nervously drank his fifth cup of tea, his stomach starting to churn.
Looking pale, he quietly asked, "When will Mr. Brown arrive? If it'll be a while, I need to use the restroom."
"Sorry for the wait. Mr. Brown is on his way. You can go, and I'll explain to him," the secretary said.
"Thank you." He quickly headed to the restroom.
Just as he left, Oscar and Pearl arrived.
The secretary promptly informed them of the situation, and Oscar gave Pearl a reproachful look. She had delayed him by nearly an hour.
Pearl, still blushing, ignored Oscar's look and instructed the secretary to prepare breakfast.
The client was casual, he probably wouldn't mind joining them for breakfast.
When the man returned to the reception room, he was startled by the spread of breakfast. "Did I..."
"Mr. Ellis, chill out. It's our fault for keeping you waiting. Just don't tell anyone we left you hanging for an hour," Oscar joked, making Harvey Ellis shiver.
"Mr. Brown, I would never say that, really," Harvey Ellis said casually.
He then handed over the contract. "I've reconsidered. I'll give an additional ten percent discount. If you don't mind, we can sign right away."
Another ten percent would mean doing it for free. Pearl squinted at Harvey, trying to gauge his true intentions.
