Chapter 86 The Imaginary Enemy
The receptionist had seen Seraphina for several days in a row, and she was quite persistent. The receptionist said, "Let me make a phone call, please wait."
As long as there was hope, Seraphina had expectations. "Okay, thank you for your help."
The receptionist got the result and politely answered Seraphina, "Miss, President Oscar is not at the company. Please come back another time."
He wasn't there every time. How could it be such a coincidence?
Seraphina wasn't as obedient this time and persistently asked, "Can you call President Oscar? You can tell him that Seraphina has made a few signature dishes and would like him to taste them. After he tastes them, I'll leave."
The receptionist had encountered many women who tried to flatter Oscar, and she was just one of them. She wanted to dismiss Seraphina. "President Oscar is very busy and won't meet with outsiders."
"I'm not an outsider, I am..."
Seraphina was so anxious that she could cry, but she couldn't bring herself to expose her relationship with Oscar.
"Miss, please stop bothering me at work," the receptionist reminded her again.
Seraphina had already waited for several days, and she couldn't continue to stay in the villa without peace of mind. She said, "Then I'll go find him myself."
"That's not possible this time, Miss," the receptionist warned her.
Last time, Seraphina had the chance to go in only because she used Pearl's name.
But this time, if she actively went to harass Oscar, it was not acceptable.
The receptionist had someone stop Seraphina.
Seraphina tightly protected the insulated lunch box in her hand. She hadn't let Oscar taste her cooking yet, and she couldn't let anyone bump into it.
"Let her go."
Pearl came down and saw a few men surrounding Seraphina, so she intervened.
"Pearl," the receptionist called out, "she's come to find President Oscar again."
Seraphina looked up and when she saw Pearl, it was as if she saw a savior. She cried, "Ms. Harris."
She quickly ran to Pearl's side and said, "They won't let me in. I just wanted to bring some food for President Oscar, but they didn't allow it. Fortunately, you're here."
Upon observing Seraphina and Pearl's close relationship, the receptionist fell silent.
Pearl learned that Seraphina had come downstairs in search of her and looked at her before speaking, "President Oscar is indeed not in the company."
Seraphina was taken aback. "You and President Oscar never came to visit me. I've been so bored by myself."
"You can have someone accompany you for shopping," Pearl suggested.
Seraphina replied, "I don't have any friends here, except for the nightclub. I have nowhere else to go. Ms. Harris, could you please take me upstairs? I have made some delicious food, and you can have some too."
She waved the well-preserved insulated lunch box in front of Pearl.
"I've already eaten," Pearl said coolly. "Everyone upstairs is working, and it wouldn't be appropriate for you to go up there."
Seraphina didn't want to give up this opportunity and obediently suggested, "I won't make any noise. I'll just wait in the lounge. When he comes back, you can let me know."
Pearl remained silent. Seraphina was determined to see Oscar today.
Pearl couldn't let her affect others and straightforwardly refused, "Just go back home and wait."
Pearl's assertive demeanor caused Seraphina's face to pale slightly. She clenched her fists, hesitating to speak.
Pearl looked at her watch, realizing it was time, and started to walk away.
Seeing her about to leave, Seraphina shouted directly, "Ms. Harris, you never want me to see President Oscar, do you?"
Pearl stopped in her tracks.
Seraphina felt even more convinced when she saw Pearl hesitate and continued, "You see me as a rival."
She knew that saying such words would undoubtedly hurt Pearl, but she had no other choice. "Ms. Harris, although I come from a small place, I also know about fair competition. I never wanted to ruin your relationship with President Oscar, but it seems you have ulterior motives and are preventing me from seeing him. This is unfair."
The more Pearl listened, the more absurd it seemed. She retorted, "You're overthinking. I'm just telling the truth."
"Do you dare say that you don't like President Oscar?" Seraphina asked, looking into her eyes.
Upon hearing that question, Pearl immediately froze.
"Your silence confirms it," Seraphina pointed out, noting Pearl's lack of response.
As a woman, her intuition was accurate. Pearl did like Oscar.
After all these years, Oscar hadn't developed feelings for her, indicating that they weren't meant to be.
However, Pearl wouldn't allow any other woman to like Oscar.
No wonder there were so few rumors about him; she must have caused trouble frequently.
"Ms. Harris, we can compete fairly. Only if I lose will I admit defeat," Seraphina said. "If President Oscar doesn't like me, then I will withdraw and stop bothering him."
Pearl found it amusing. "Do you think I consider you as a rival?"
Seraphina also understood. "I know that you have been by President Oscar's side for many years, and he has feelings for you, but not romantic feelings. It's the bond between a superior and a subordinate. I understand your hope, and I hope you can understand me."
All these words could not hurt Pearl. But when Seraphina said that Oscar's feelings toward her were just those of a subordinate after so many years, it made her feel heartbroken.
It was because she knew too well that she never crossed the line.
She was not someone who could be easily swayed by a few words from Seraphina. However, she couldn't help but notice that Seraphina's face and expression did bear some resemblance to Haley's.
Just like Queenie said, Oscar would take a few extra glances at a woman like her, a woman of his type.
Pearl thought, urging herself to snap out of it, her hands buried in her pockets as she tried to conceal her sadness. With a cold demeanor, she stated, "Ms. Brooks, you indeed think too much. Don't consider me your imaginary enemy. If you can capture President Oscar's heart, that's your ability, but it has nothing to do with me. I have never stopped you from seeing him."
Unable to convince Pearl, Seraphina became even more anxious. She had originally planned to see Oscar by any means necessary today.
This was her only chance, and she wanted to fight for it.
But this method didn't seem to work.
Feeling disappointed, she was about to leave when she suddenly saw a familiar car. I
t seemed to be Oscar's!
Seraphina was ecstatic; Oscar was back!
Without hesitation, she ran out frantically.
"Ms. Brooks, Ms. Brooks!"
The receptionist saw her running fast and called out to her in a hurry.
Hearing the receptionist's voice echoing through the lobby, Pearl glanced over, wondering what Seraphina was up to this time. Suddenly, she watched as Seraphina crashed into the Rolls-Royce!
Pearl was shocked, b
ut it meant that she succeeded this time as well.
The slowly moving car stopped right in front of her.
It was a close call.
However, the car still collided with Seraphina. She fell to the ground, feeling intense pain in her legs.
Gritting her teeth, she raised her head, reaching out her hand and calling out, "President Oscar..."
Pearl was also frightened by her reckless actions.
She hurried over to take a look, relieved to see no blood on the ground and that Seraphina wasn't seriously injured.
Oscar got out of the car and coldly looked at the fallen Seraphina.
He walked over, but Seraphina was afraid of him leaving, so she grabbed onto his trouser leg.
She managed to say a few words but
Pearl was too far away to hear clearly.
Just then, Oscar urgently instructed someone to pick up Seraphina and put her in the car.
