Chapter 792 Reflect on Yourself
Saskia's words made Nathaniel feel like he could just strangle her.
"You have no right to lecture me here," he snapped.
Didn't he understand human nature by now?
He'd handled so many cases, including ones with Saskia.
He'd even thought about marrying her, but she betrayed him in the worst way.
He got it, he really did.
But what could he do?
When he wanted to take revenge on Saskia, wanted her dead, he just couldn't do it.
"Saskia, you stay here and think about what you've done," he said.
If Saskia cried and begged, he might soften.
But she didn't.
Saskia still cared about that kid she had with someone else.
Nathaniel was curious to see how long Benjamin would hold out!
Jade couldn't persuade Nathaniel, and she felt uneasy about reporting back to Amy.
After all, Amy was someone Jade had handpicked herself.
But Nathaniel wouldn't even look at her, refusing to have any contact with Amy, while Amy was genuinely invested in him.
Every time Amy visited, she would greet Jade and bring her lots of nutritional supplements and cosmetics.
It made Jade feel pretty embarrassed.
"Has Nathaniel been really busy lately? I haven't seen him at the law firm," Amy asked.
She knew Nathaniel was definitely with Saskia. Saskia was someone he had liked since he was young, a constant presence in his heart. Nathaniel would never forget her.
But Amy didn't want to give up.
A marriage not blessed by parents would never be happy.
Especially since Jade was on Amy's side.
Amy wanted to use Jade to win Nathaniel's heart and become his wife.
Seeing that this wasn't working, Jade decided to be honest with Amy. "Amy, you're a good girl. There are some things I need to make clear to you. I like you very much, but that Saskia has somehow bewitched Nathaniel."
Fortunately, the paternity test had been tampered with. Otherwise, with Nathaniel's attitude, he would have kept Saskia and Benjamin by his side immediately.
Luckily, Azalea had taken Benjamin away.
As long as Benjamin and Azalea died on the road and never returned, Saskia would lose her two closest relatives in an instant. She wouldn't be able to handle such a blow.
Then, Saskia would lose her mind—she would fall apart.
And Nathaniel wouldn't keep Saskia around.
Amy understood. Even Jade couldn't do anything, so how could Amy persuade Nathaniel or change his mind?
But Amy couldn't give up.
"Mrs. Egan, then you call him back. I'll talk to him face-to-face," she said.
Even if Nathaniel insisted on keeping Saskia by his side, they could create a false impression first. Once they fooled everyone, Amy would take the position of Nathaniel's wife.
She would never agree to divorce Nathaniel, and if she had a child with him, it would secure her hold on his heart. As for Saskia, by that point, beauty had faded and love had dwindled. Even if Nathaniel couldn't forget her, how many years could he realistically hold onto those feelings?
Nathaniel wouldn't listen to Jade. They had already had their conflicts, not to mention the impossibility of calling him back.
He simply couldn't be brought back.Jade didn't want Amy to go find Nathaniel, worried she might get hurt. "Don't go looking for Nathaniel," she said. "I'll think of a way. He's completely irrational right now, and I'm afraid he might hurt you."
Amy was well-behaved and came from a good family. If she became Nathaniel's wife and Nathaniel returned to the business world, the Waverly family would definitely help the Egan family, and their career would soar.
But Nathaniel didn't get it.
Amy wasn't scared. She shook her head and said, "I haven't done anything to him. I don't believe that just talking to him would make him drive me away."
Jade opened her mouth to say more, but seeing Amy's confident demeanor made her think that Nathaniel might not have the heart to turn Amy down after all.
Jade suddenly had an idea. Amy was thrilled. "Mrs. Egan, your idea is great. We should act quickly before he does something irrational."
Jade's idea was good, but they decided to implement the plan three days later.
Meanwhile, Nathaniel hadn't gone to the law firm, but he was still keeping up with the cases, including attempting to reach out to Azalea.
He could get through, but Azalea didn't answer the phone.
Every time he spoke with Saskia, it always ended in an argument. Yet Saskia's appetite was good. She needed to conserve her strength.
When Nathaniel wasn't paying attention, she could plan her escape.
Nathaniel couldn't stand it. He approached Saskia and mocked, "Aren't you worried about your son? Is this how you show your concern? Saskia, is there any truth in your words?"
Saskia didn't expect Nathaniel to get so angry over such a small matter.
But then again, Nathaniel hated her, so of course, he couldn't stand her. Her flaws were magnified in his eyes.
Saskia didn't want to provoke Nathaniel, nor did she want to say much to him. "Nathaniel, if I don't eat, I'll end up starving to death here. What if Benjamin comes back and I'm not there to see him?"
"That's just an excuse. I don't see any sadness on your face." Nathaniel's expression grew colder.
Saskia didn't know what to say.
After a few seconds, she laughed bitterly. "People's thoughts don't always align. I can't interfere with how you think."
"Are you saying I'm making a fuss over nothing?" Nathaniel's face darkened.
Living under Nathaniel's watch, Saskia felt like they were back to the beginning. But their conversations were filled with hostility.
It seemed like it was just an illusion.
Saskia pressed her lips together and said softly, "You can't stand me. Every little thing I do is a big problem in your eyes. So, what can I say?"
Begging Nathaniel to let her go wouldn't work.
He had thrown a phone to her, not cutting off her internet access. Saskia knew Nathaniel was sure she wouldn't dare call the police.
It wasn't that she didn't dare, but she didn't want to.
If she called the police, Nathaniel's career as a lawyer would be ruined. They had once loved each other so much. How could she not know how much he loved his career?
"Are you blaming me?" Nathaniel squinted his eyes and stepped closer to Saskia.
Saskia lowered her head and smiled bitterly. "I should blame myself. I should have left and gone far away, instead of staying here and being found by you."
Nathaniel responded, "Too late. Saskia, you're destined to suffer my revenge."
