Chapter 550 Didn't Expect That

Louis got the gist and hit up Giovanni. "Take Paloma to the lab, pronto."

These folks would do whatever it took to get what they wanted.

Paloma took a deep breath and said, "Mr. Mitchell, chill. I don't need any treatment right now."

"Your safety is top priority," Louis said, dead serious.

Paloma felt a bit of warmth, even though Louis was just looking out for her health out of basic decency. But still, wasn't this Louis showing some concern for her?

Giovanni took Paloma to the lab.

After checking her out, the lab geeks shook their heads. "This poison's no joke. It's a souped-up version of Kevin's old poison, and there's no antidote."

Louis's face went dark. "Didn't we trash all of Kevin's poisons?"

RavenWing was all about Pearl and Christopher now, and there were no such poisons in Eldorians.

"Giovanni, get on this. Don't let anyone mess with the future of the Eldorians or put the nation and its people at risk," Louis said coldly, his eyes full of determination.

At the same time, he barked at the other researchers. "I don't care what you gotta do. Save her life!"

"Yes, sir!" They didn't dare to argue.

Paloma felt a bit of warmth. "Mr. Mitchell, thanks for caring about me and not letting me die. But I'm not scared of death."

She had already passed on crucial info to Louis, giving him a heads-up. So, she was ready to die with a purpose.

Louis knew Paloma was sacrificing herself for him.

He couldn't let Paloma die because of him; otherwise, he'd feel guilty forever.

Because of this, Louis was a regular at the lab in the following days.

Jimena also found out about Paloma's sacrifice for Louis.

But watching Paloma give up her life for Louis was something she couldn't stomach.

Jimena went to find Louis and found him by Paloma's side. In just a few days, the poison had wrecked Paloma beyond recognition. The researchers around her were all clueless.

This was also the first time Jimena saw Louis so pissed.

He tore into everyone. "If you can't even handle this, why are you even here?"

RavenWing had lost interest in research, but he held onto the lab for emergencies. Who would've thought they couldn't even find a cure for the poison in Paloma's body?

"Mr. Mitchell, don't blame them," Paloma said weakly.

When the poison first hit, she could still fight it, but now, it had torn her apart.

Trapped in a nightmarish limbo, she yearned for life yet couldn't grasp it, wished for death yet couldn't reach it, simply longing for a swift resolution.

She was willing to endure all this and didn't blame anyone. Especially since she could die in Louis's arms, she had no regrets.

Paloma looked at Louis and smiled, her eyes full of determination and happiness.

Jimena saw all of this, especially Louis staying by Paloma's side, just like when she had taken a bullet for him, and he had taken care of her.

Jimena knew Louis was a good guy, but right now, she was feeling all kinds of uneasy.

Paloma had snatched Louis away from her in the same way.

If Paloma had more tricks up her sleeve, Jimena might've accepted it, but this just made her super uncomfortable.

She watched as Louis carefully and patiently took care of Paloma, feeding her medicine.

Louis stayed by Paloma's side until she fell asleep before getting up to leave.

The next second, he locked eyes with Jimena.

Louis pursed his lips and said softly, "What are you doing here?"

Jimena glanced at Paloma lying on the bed behind Louis. "Everyone knows she's here."

Now, the whole Eldorians were buzzing about Paloma's sacrifice, delivering a message to Louis at the cost of her life. And Louis was grateful for her life-saving act and didn't want Paloma to die, even thinking about marrying her.

Jimena had come because she felt a sense of crisis after hearing this.

Louis read everything in her eyes. "She delivered the message, and I don't want her to die."

That was Louis's stance; besides that, he had no feelings for Paloma.

Sure, there were rumors that because Paloma helped him, he felt responsible for her.

But that wasn't the case; his stance had always been clear. Even if he had to repay her, he wouldn't do it by marrying her.

Jimena held her breath as Louis explained, leaving her stunned.

"You..." As she spoke, Jimena didn't know what to say for a moment.

She couldn't deny that Louis's status and their relationship made it rare for him to explain things to her.

"What? I'm your fiancé now. If I don't explain, wouldn't that be cruel to you? Or do you think I'm a heartless jerk?" Louis couldn't help but laugh.

The next second, he gently patted Jimena's head. His touch was so gentle, and he became exceptionally tender.

Jimena's throat tightened, and she couldn't hold back any longer. She hugged Louis tightly. "Louis." Her voice was already choked with sobs.

To others, it seemed she had won Louis over by being persistent, but Louis had given her full respect.

Louis patted her back, saying, "Alright. You're a grown-up now; you shouldn't be crying."

"I really didn't expect you to do this for me," Jimena took a deep breath and spoke hoarsely.

At this moment, she regretted it.

She regretted her words to Paloma. When someone wasdetermined, they would go to any lengths.

She dreaded Paloma's relentless plotting and came to the realization that Louis was irreplaceable to her.

Even if someone more amazing showed up by Louis's side, she wanted to stay by Louis's side, her mind filled with many beautiful future visions with him. She couldn't let her true love slip away!

Louis continued, "Since I've decided to be with you, I must be responsive and explain everything. Jimena, I will be responsible for you."

Louis had always valued responsibility.

However, Louis shared his thoughts with Jimena. "I originally planned to prepare the wedding thoroughly and hold it later. But now, Jimena, we need to have the wedding sooner."
