Chapter 314 Selling the Ring
Janetta couldn't believe it. They seemed so in love, how could they divorce so easily? "What happened? Oscar changed his mind so fast. I need to talk to him!"
Pearl had already accepted it. "No need. The divorce is good for me. I have money and a house now; I'm set for life. Just be happy for me."
"But that means Haley gets what she wants," Janetta said, feeling upset for Pearl.
Pearl shrugged. "Don't worry about it. It's all in the past."
"I get it. I'm just worried about you. I called, but you didn't answer. I don't know what you are doing or if you need my company, which concerns me a lot." Janetta was genuinely concerned but knew Pearl was tough. She wouldn't have stayed with Oscar for so long otherwise.
If it were her, she would've left Oscar immediately.
"I'm fine. I'll take a break and then get back to work," Pearl said, knowing she had to move on.
"You're pregnant. Shouldn't you rest?"
"No, I can work. It's not like it's hard labor."
Janetta didn't push further.
This was Pearl's life. She just wanted Pearl to be happy.
After hanging up, Pearl turned on the TV.
She knew where Janetta got the news.
Haley was all over the media, flaunting her relationship with Oscar.
She was using the attention to boost her fame.
But her voice only was not enough, Oscar had to respond.
Oscar attended an event with Haley, and when asked, he didn't deny it, even though he looked cold.
He made it public, but people remembered he had proposed to Pearl not long ago.
Proposing to Pearl and then calling Haley his girlfriend made him look like a jerk.
His image took a hit.
'Why bother? Why go to such lengths?' Pearl wondered. Oscar usually cared about his image.
Netizens were telling Haley not to be fooled by a jerk.
There had been rumors before, and now they were together, which worried her fans.
But Haley confirmed their relationship and even said they planned to marry.
She showed off a big diamond ring from Oscar.
Ironically, it was the same brand as the one Oscar gave Pearl.
This made Pearl see things clearly.
They had tried to divorce many times but never succeeded. This time, it was real.
Pearl turned off the TV.
She didn't want to see Haley flaunting her love.
Pearl looked at the diamond ring on her finger, now feeling like a mockery. She quickly took it off, wanting to throw it away.
But she couldn't bring herself to do it.
The ring was expensive. Throwing it away would be a waste; better to sell it for cash.
With that thought, Pearl took action.
She looked at Jeffery, who was watering the garden.
Jeffery had been with her these past few days. She asked if he need to work.
He said he was on vacation.
He also helped her tend to the garden.
He was experienced, so Pearl felt comfortable letting him handle it.
"I'm going out for a bit." Pearl grabbed her new bicycle, decorated with flowers in the front basket, which was so beautiful.
Jeffery, holding the hose, looked back at her. "Where are you headed? How long will you be?"
"It might take a while," Pearl said. "I'll be back when I'm done."
"Okay."
Jeffery watched Pearl leave.
Pearl rode her bike towards the city center. Oscar had left her a valuable villa, so it wasn't far from downtown.
There were quite a few people around. She waited at the red light for the pedestrian crossing.
When the light turned green, she pushed her bike across. Suddenly, someone said, "Let me help you."
Pearl looked back to see a young man pushing her bike from behind.
He seemed to notice she was pregnant and might need help.
Today, she was dressed casually, her hair tied up, wearing a hat and a loose dress that slightly revealed her belly.
But apart from her attire, nothing else suggested she was pregnant.
Pearl wasn't so weak that she needed help, but she didn't want to waste his kindness, so she said, "Thank you."
After crossing the street, the young man walked in the opposite direction.
She continued riding her bike on the bike lane.
For some reason, she noticed that the road she was on had very few cars.
Almost none.
But looking at the opposite side, there were clearly electric bikes and bicycles passing by.
Her path was clear.
It was strange, but Pearl didn't dwell on it. She arrived at a jewelry store that specialized in buying second-hand pieces.
She went in, and the owner, Dylan Coleman, who appeared to be in his fifties with glasses and average height, looked up as she entered. "What are you selling?"
"A ring." Pearl placed the ring on the table. "How much is this worth?"
Dylan's eyes lit up at the sight of the large diamond. It was rare to see such a cut and size, which had considerable collectible value. He picked up a magnifying glass and examined it closely.
Pearl didn't understand much about it. She just asked, "How much can I get for it?"
Dylan smiled. "Wait a moment. Let me take a closer look."
Dylan examined the ring carefully with the magnifying glass, looking like he had found a treasure.
Pearl waited patiently. After a while, Dylan said, "I can give you ten thousand dollars at most."
"Ten thousand?" Pearl thought she had misheard.
Seeing Pearl's reluctance, he said, "Twelve then, an extra two thousand for you."
Pearl stared at Dylan. Even if she wanted to sell the ring, she didn't want to be taken advantage of. "Are you sure?"
Dylan smiled and said, "This ring is only worth ten thousand. Diamonds, you know, there are many synthetic ones now. Diamonds don't hold their value like gold. Some diamonds I don't even take. I'm only taking this one because it's nice."
Pearl didn't want to listen to his spiel. She took the ring back. "Then I won't sell it!"
"Wait!!" Dylan called after her.
Pearl paused. "I'm sincere, but you're not. I'm not selling."
"Name your price!" Dylan was still very interested in the ring.
Pearl turned back. "At least fifty thousand."
Dylan's eyes sparkled, and he agreed quickly. "Deal!"
Dylan agreed so quickly without bargaining, she knew the ring was worth more than fifty thousand.
But she wasn't looking to make money off it, so she gave it to him.
"Is there a bathroom here?"
Pearl needed to use the bathroom.
"Yes, over here."
Having gotten the treasure, Dylan was very enthusiastic and quickly showed her the way.
After she left, Dylan was overjoyed with the ring.
However, as he was examining it closely with his magnifying glass, a group of people entered the store behind him.
