Chapter 347 Because We Are Both Girls

Pearl was tied up but didn't struggle. She'd been poisoned before and knew her fate, so she wasn't scared.

Her eyes were locked on Oscar. He stood out, but the light in his eyes for her was gone.

She didn't understand why.

He didn't seem like Oscar anymore; he felt like a stranger, a soldier on a mission, not just there to protect her. She couldn't feel his love.

She felt a deep sense of loss.

Oscar hadn't decided yet; he seemed hesitant. In his hesitation, Pearl saw the truth.

"Hurry up and choose, or both of them die!" Donald snapped, having someone tighten their grip on Pearl and Haley, forcing Oscar to decide.

Pearl felt extremely uncomfortable, unable to move. With her pregnant belly, she could only take deep breaths, her face pale.

Haley's tears flowed as she shook her head, looking at Oscar with pleading eyes.

She looked pitiful, needing protection, and pinned all her hopes on Oscar.

Oscar's gaze lingered on them, and without further hesitation, he pointed to Haley and said, "I choose her!"

Pearl's heart ached, and she closed her eyes in despair.

Haley's face lit up with joy, her eyes filled with hope. There was no happier moment for her.

'Oscar chose me! He was afraid I'd die! He cared about me.' Haley struggled more, making noises, wanting them to release her.

But Donald laughed maniacally.

Then, Pearl felt herself tilt forward, her hands freed, and she fell to the ground.

Barbara looked at Pearl, who had fallen heavily, with a slight change in her expression.

But she didn't act, just clenched her fists tightly.

Pearl was confused. 'Why did he release me? Didn't Oscar choose Haley? Why was I freed?'

She looked at the nearly crazed Donald, puzzled.

Donald wasn't focused on her; his eyes were filled with fierce hatred. The person he hated most was Oscar. "Compared to death, if the person you love dies and you're still alive, that's the most painful, right? Since you can't bear to lose her, she has to die. How could I let her live!"

Haley had no idea Donald would change his mind. Her face instantly turned pale.

Her joy lasted less than a second, leaving only sorrow.

She looked at the syringe in Donald's hand, her pupils dilating with fear.

She was filled with fear, struggling, wanting to scream.

But her mouth was gagged, unable to make a sound.

Oscar saw Donald preparing to act, his eyes cold. Without hesitation, he fired a shot at the pillar.

Donald quickly dodged, and the syringe narrowly missed Haley's neck.

Taking advantage of Donald's distraction, Oscar quickly ran up.

Another round of gunfire erupted!

The battle between the criminals and the police resumed!

Pearl hadn't yet reacted when she heard the intense gunfire.

"Pearl!" Barbara noticed her and immediately helped her move to the side.

Pearl tried her best to squeeze into the safest spot to avoid the shooting.

Barbara said, "There's a small door here. Hide in there first. I don't know if there are more bad guys outside. For your safety, stay hidden. Donald has met his end this time. Once the fight is over, you'll be safe!"

Barbara was about to leave when Pearl grabbed her hand. "What about you?"

"I can handle myself. I need to help them!" Barbara replied, giving Pearl a reassuring look.

Pearl hid in a small corner, with a door blocking her, surrounded by darkness. It made her feel scared, but she had to protect herself and her child. She hugged herself tightly, closed her eyes, and tried to endure it. The gunfire right outside made her break out in a cold sweat.

She closed her eyes, and a memory surfaced.

Young Barbara was a thin, blonde girl with tattered clothes and a dirty face. Despite her appearance, she smiled and said, "Why aren't you talking? There aren't many living people around here. It's boring if you stay silent."

"Aren't you afraid?"

"Not anymore," Barbara said. "I've been here since I was little. I've seen too many dead people. I'm not afraid anymore. I don't even know when I might die."

"You won't. You can't die!"

"It's okay!" Barbara still smiled. "My parents abandoned me. My life should have ended long ago!"

"I'm older than you. From now on, I'll be your sister. It's better than having no family. By the way, have you seen Jeffery? He's always soaking in weird potions. He's my younger brother!"

Then, the scene shifted to a group of people beating up young Barbara. She was pressed into the mud, with a bun stuffed in her mouth that she hadn't swallowed, but she was protecting two buns under her body.

"No, I won't give them!" Barbara endured the pain, her mouth bleeding, crawling out of the crowd, and quickly handed over the dirty buns. "Hurry, eat them quickly. You need to eat to survive. Otherwise, the buns will be taken away soon. Eat quickly!"

"You can hit me. I'm strong. Don't hit her!"

Barbara always fought with a group of boys for the meager food. She was often injured but always very strong.

"Why are you so good to me?"

"Because we're both girls! I have no family. You are so beautiful; you must be someone's precious daughter. You can't handle it."

"Then I want to protect you too!"

"You can't fight them, but I can!"

"Can we get out?"

"I don't know. If we can get out, I want to live beautifully and cleanly, like a pretty girl."

Outside, Oscar and Donald were fighting. Donald's only target was Haley. Injecting this poison was his ultimate goal. He wanted Oscar to suffer for a lifetime. Seeing Oscar actively saving Haley, he knew this was his weak spot!

However, Oscar didn't give him the chance. Haley looked at Oscar, who came to save her, her eyes filled with hope. She only hoped he could defeat Donald, and then it would all be over! This also made her realize that the person Oscar loved was her.

Donald was very skilled and fought Oscar for a long time. He sneered, "Looks like I bet right this time. Haley is your weak spot!"

Oscar, his face expressionless, said, "You have no way out. It's not too late to surrender!"

"You've said that several times. Do you really think I can still surrender at this point?" Donald replied with a smile. "I didn't expect you to team up with Kevin. Do you really see him as your father-in-law? Are you planning to betray too?"
