Chapter 193 Her Tone Was Sarcastic

Haley's pride was pricked; Pearl was insinuating that her acting was mindless.

Haley had planned to brag about her success as a singer and newfound fame as an actress.

However, Pearl's words came across as an insult to Haley.

She almost wanted to retort the humiliation.

With Oscar present, Haley had to restrain her temper.

"I think my poster turned out quite well. What do you think, Pearl?"Haley asked, as she deliberately walked to the window to look at the advertisement poster on the building outside.

Haley smiled again, realizing that Pearl's office was facing her poster.

Seeing Haley's poster every day must be quite uncomfortable for her.

Without even turning her head, Pearl said, "Ms. Garcia, I have work to do. Do you have any other business?"

Pearl had no desire to talk to Haley, who was merely showing off, something Pearl did not care about.

"No, we've known each other for so long, I just wanted to have a chat with you." Haley walked over and stood by Pearl's desk. "I heard you're resigning. Are you looking for a job?"

Haley then looked at Oscar. "Oscar, if Pearl resigns, she can apply to work for me as Mae. With her experience, there shouldn't be any problem."

This statement displeased both Pearl and Oscar.

Especially Oscar, who did not want Pearl to leave the company. Haley's words only made him frown as he looked at her coldly. "Who told you Pearl is resigning?"

When saw Oscar's expression, Haley felt awkward. "I heard it from someone on my way here. Pearl's plan to resign isn't a secret, right?"

Since the rumor had spread, it must be true. She couldn't understand why Oscar had a strong reaction to what she said.

Pearl had been by Oscar's side for seven years. If she was about to leave, it meant that Pearl and Oscar were close to divorcing.

Haley had been waiting for this moment for a long time.

Only if they divorced would Haley feel completely at ease.

Oscar, however, denied it, "Nonsense! Don't believe everything you hear."

This made Haley feel a bit embarrassed. She brushed her hair aside and said, "I see. Pearl, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to say that. You've been with Oscar for so long, you must be used to it. But a change of environment could be good too."

Despite this, Haley didn't give up, hoping Pearl would willingly relinquish her position.

Pearl looked at Haley. "Thank you for your offer, Ms. Garcia, but people aim  to get a higher job, not lower."

Haley's face darkened in anger.

Pearl was belittling the position of Mae by Haley's side!

At this moment, Oscar also said, "Don't you have work to do? Will you make it in time?"

Upon hearing this, Haley stopped talking to Pearl and said to Oscar, "I'll be going then. You know, there's an award ceremony, and as the CEO, you have to attend."

"Got it," Oscar replied coldly.

Only then did Haley leave the Brown Group.

Haley was quite extravagant, with several assistants by her side.

It was quite a spectacle.

Queenie, seeing her leave with such grandeur, couldn't help but sneer.

When would someone like her get her comeuppance?

From beginning to end, Pearl didn't look at Oscar even once, focusing solely on her work.

Oscar, however, kept glancing at Pearl, noticing her indifferent demeanor. Feeling a bit strange, he said, "Pearl, make me a cup of coffee."

Pearl then said, "Lily, make Mr. Brown a cup of coffee."

Upon receiving the order, Lily responded, "Alright."

Oscar stared at Pearl, his face darkening, and said, "I can't get used to anyone else's."

Lily stopped in her tracks.

Pearl retorted, "Didn't you hear what Ms. Garcia said? The company doesn't keep idle employees. If you can't get used to Lily's coffee, what else can she do?"

Pearl's tone was sarcastic, and her words were harsh.

This surprised both Queenie and Lily.

Something was off.

Queenie had been with Pearl for months and knew her as reserved and kind, especially in front of Mr. Brown.

She always did everything well.

She would never retort to Oscar.

They didn't dare to breathe, standing there obediently.

Oscar's eyes darkened. He was still unhappy and said coldly, "Isn't she the one you hired?"

Pearl pursed her lips. "Yes, I hired her, so it's my responsibility to teach her. Mr. Brown, is it alright if I teach her?"

Oscar didn't need a new secretary; it was just an excuse to keep Pearl around.

Today, Pearl was extremely furious. Oscar didn't want to argue and straightforwardly said,, "If you want to teach, take your time. Today, I want you to make me acoffee!"

With that, Oscar didn't allow Pearl to argue and walked into his office.

Once Oscar left, Queenie relaxed and said to Pearl, "Pearl, you were amazing! Haley's face must have turned livid with anger!"

Haley's appearance had indeed affected Pearl.

It was one thing to affect Pearl, but to suppress her was another. Definitely, Pearl couldn't let Haley leave so happily.

"She targets you and resents you. She's envious. Pearl, you'll always be at a height she can never reach!" Queenie, who had been targeted by Haley earlier, felt balanced now that Pearl had spoken up for her.

Haley's behavior made Queenie realize that treating Pearl as a competitor was why they had never gotten along well before.

"Let's not talk about this anymore."

Pearl didn't consider Haley as a rival. As long as Haley didn't provoke her, Pearl didn't even want to think about her.

Lily, with her head down, felt a bit insecure. "Pearl, am I too stupid?"

Pearl looked at Lily, her expression softening. "No, you're very smart. Don't let Mr. Brown's words affect you."

Queenie also comforted Lily, "Don't overthink it. I get scolded often too. Mr. Brown always be like this. Don't doubt yourself."

Lily's strength was her honesty and willingness to learn and work. She might not be very smooth or thorough, but she was meticulous and had no ill intentions.

Most importantly, Lily cherished this opportunity.

These words comforted Lily.

The workplace was ruthless, and they worked hard here. Fortunately, Pearl's kind nature provided them with much warmth.

"Pearl, I won't get discouraged. I might not make coffee as well as you, but I'll keep trying until Mr. Brown is satisfied." Lily regained her confidence.

In the end, it was still Pearl who had to make coffee for Oscar.

When she entered, Oscar wasn't working.

He looked up at her and said, "Let's leave work early tonight."

Pearl found it a bit strange and asked, "Do we have a dinner appointment?"

Oscar, looking quite interested, gazed at her and said, "We haven't gone out together in a long time. How about having a dinner and watching a movie? What do you think?"
