Chapter 612 Are You a Couple?
Luckily, Damian wasn't in too bad of shape, but the doc made it clear he should only get out of bed now and then and definitely stay put in the hospital. When he said that, he gave Janetta a look that made her squirm.
Pearl noticed and stepped in, pulling Janetta behind her. She shot the doctor a look and said, "What's with the look? The records say Savannah is the family member, not Janetta. Did you mess up?"
The doctor gave an awkward smile. "I know Mrs. Clark, but Mr. Clark kept calling out for Janetta while he was out cold. I just heard you call her Janetta, so I got curious about who she is to him."
Everyone turned to Damian, surprised.
Henry, feeling uneasy, walked over and put his arm around Janetta's shoulder. "Damian calling Janetta's name doesn't prove anything; he could just be a weirdo for all we know."
"Who are you calling a weirdo?" Savannah stormed in, shooting daggers at Janetta after a quick glance at Damian.
Seeing Henry next to Janetta, she sneered, "Didn't take you long to find someone else, huh, Janetta? Haven't you caused enough trouble?"
"Mrs. Clark, watch your mouth," Henry snapped, not knowing the full story but ready to defend Janetta.
Savannah's eyes filled with even more sarcasm as she looked Janetta up and down, shaking her head slightly. "Not that good-looking, yet so popular with men?"
Janetta stayed quiet. She knew no matter what she said, she couldn't explain her long history with Damian. She also got why Savannah was pissed; if she were in Savannah's shoes, she'd be mad too.
They were half-siblings, and Savannah was Damian's wife, but Damian cared more about her than Savannah.
Feeling the tension, the doctor gave a few more instructions and then bailed, saying he had rounds to do.
Savannah walked to the bedside, and someone handed her a wet towel. She gently wiped Damian's face, looking all virtuous.
"Are you still here? Waiting for him to wake up? Oh, didn't you say once he wakes up, you're outta here for good? Changed your mind?" Without looking up, Savannah's words cut deep into Janetta.
Just then, both Oscar and Henry got updates about the art exhibition investigation. Henry looked thrilled, but Oscar frowned a bit.
Janetta, standing in front of them, didn't notice. She couldn't hold back anymore and snapped, "If someone hadn't messed with my art exhibition, I wouldn't be stuck here!"
"Oh? Did you catch them? Thank them for me; they did me a big favor," Savannah laughed softly, handing the wet towel to a servant.
Wiping her hands with a tissue, she walked up to Janetta. "You should never be able to hold an art exhibition again, always in trouble."
"You..." Janetta started, but Oscar rushed over and pulled her aside.
Oscar lowered his voice, "Byron confessed. He said he took your paintings to pay off gambling debts."
"He did everything at both exhibitions?" Janetta couldn't believe it.
Oscar nodded, lowering his voice again. "This has nothing to do with Savannah. If you bring it up, it'll only backfire on you. Hold off for now and plan carefully when you get back."
Pearl walked over, took Janetta's hand, and comforted her, "We know you're not that kind of person. Let people think what they want."
Janetta just couldn't swallow her anger.
Savannah sneered, "Mrs. Brown, let me remind you that you're pregnant. You should stay away from such women, or you won't know who to blame if something happens."
Pearl shot back, "Don't worry about me. Use your time to think about how to help Mr. Clark recover. The doctor just said he won't be able to get out of bed for at least ten days to two weeks. If he insists on getting up, it might affect your sexual happiness."
She emphasized the last part, watching Savannah's face turn red with anger, and continued, "By the way, please tell Mr. Clark that if there's nothing important, he should stay away from Janetta."
With that, she pulled Janetta out of the room.
This encounter left Henry with more questions about Janetta and Damian's relationship, making him more determined to protect Janetta.
After they got back, he immediately set up to restore the art exhibition. To make it more appealing, he kept the writing on the wall and hired someone at a high price to redecorate it.
Once the work was done, Henry waited outside Pearl's house. When he saw Janetta come out, he picked her up and put her in the car, ignoring her threats and demands to stop.
When they arrived at the exhibition entrance, he looked at Janetta apologetically. "I was afraid you wouldn't come if I asked directly, so I used this sneaky method. But, Janetta, you'll understand my good intentions once you go inside."
The exhibition was in progress, and people entering and leaving had different expressions.
Those who bought tickets were skeptical, but those who came out were all smiles.
Curious about what Henry had done behind her back, Janetta got out of the car and walked into the exhibition, only to be stunned.
Restoring it to its original state was impossible; broken things always left marks. But Henry had turned those marks into art.
The two walls at the entrance were portraits of her, done in a playful comic style.
Further inside were her works, unchanged. The shattered glass had been intentionally made to look broken, with a man and a woman painted on either side, resembling the shattered lives of two lovers.
The writing on the wall was no longer jarring but evoked a sense of pity.
Janetta choked up, "How did you come up with this?"
Henry scratched his head and replied, "I've known you for so long, I guess I picked up a bit of art."
"Janetta, is that really you? Can I take a picture with you?" Someone recognized Janetta and asked for a photo.
Janetta nodded and agreed, standing in place. Henry also came over.
The fan, thinking they were a couple, didn't ask further and took a picture.
The Polaroid camera flashed, and the fan handed the photo to Janetta, asking, "Are you two a couple?"
"No," Janetta quickly explained and pulled Henry away from the exhibition.
