Chapter 185 Changing Perspectives
Queenie and Sophia screamed in terror.
Fortunately, her car was sturdy enough.
"Stop her, don't let her run away!"
The men surrounded Pearl's car, blocking her from leaving.
"You hurt us and now you want to run away? If you have the guts, run over our body. Let's see where you can go!"
"Get out of the car!"
The men, now enraged and a bit crazed, started smashing the car as the women hid inside.
Sophia was pale with fear, tears streaming down her face.
When seeing these men hit the car firmly, Queenie was worried and said, "Pearl, what should we do? "
Pearl checked the time and comforted them, "Don't be afraid, everything will be fine."
"Look at that car, you must be rich. And you only want to give us a thousand bucks. o you think we're beggars? Are you looking down on us?"
They kicked and smashed the car.
"Get out of the car!"
They forced them to get out.
The car window, after being hit multiple times, started to crack.
Pearl was also panicking inside, fearing that if they broke the car, they would be in real trouble.
"I should go out. This is my fault, I should take responsibility."
Sophia, still crying, didn't want to put Pearl and Queenie in danger.
"It's not just your problem anymore. Stay here, we can hold out a bit longer." Pearl reassured her, though her hands were sweating.
The window was smashed open, and glass shards hit them.
Pearl instinctively covered her head.
"If you don't come out, just wait and see what I'll do to you!"
Seeing the window broken, they threatened and continued smashing the glass.
Then, they heard the sound of police sirens.
At this moment, Pearl finally felt relieved. The time had come.
Before going to rescue Sophia, Pearl had called the police.
Now, they were just stalling for time.
Upon hearing the sirens, the men panicked.
"The police, the police are here!"
They dropped the stones in their hands and looked around frantically. "Run, if the police catch us, we're done for!"
The police car had already stopped at the intersection.
"What are you doing? Stop, don't run!"
The men scattered, and the police chased after them.
Pearl looked at them. "Are you guys okay?"
"I am fine."
Sophia shook her head. "I'm okay too, but you..."
Sophia looked at Pearl, whose face was cut by glass, and felt guilty.
If it weren't for rescuing Sophia, Pearl wouldn't have gone through this.
"I'm fine." Pearl wiped her face with a tissue. "I'll take you home."
Sophia looked at Pearl, who spoke so lightly, but it made Sophia feel sad. She bit her lip.
Despite how Sophia had treated Pearl, why did Pearl still save her and not blame her?
Sophia lowered her head, not quite understanding.
"Miss Harris, are you alright?" The police officer, a woman, asked about the situation.
"I'm fine. These men are drug addicts," Pearl informed her.
The female officer said, "Don't worry, they won't get away."
She looked at Pearl's car and added, "The window is broken. I'll have someone tow the car. Why don't you come in the police car?"
With the car damaged, Pearl agreed. "Alright, that's the only option."
They got out of the car.
Sophia didn't speak, just hugged her arms, her eyes red.
"How are you feeling?" Pearl looked at Sophia. "Have some water."
Pearl still had bottled water in the car and handed it to Sophia.
Sophia took the bottle, and took a sip, but was so scared that she choked on the water.
"Take it slow," Pearl said.
Sophia tightened the cap, and then said in hesitation, "Thank you for your help. If it weren't for you, I'd be in big trouble."
Pearl teased, "You usually seem pretty tough, but you were quite scared just now."
Sophia bit her lip and lowered her head again. "I know, I've embarrassed you twice, so it's normal for you to mock me."
"Alright, get in the car. I'll take you home. If you get home late, your grandpa will definitely worry about you." Pearl saved Sophia for Hunter's sake.
Hunter only had Sophia as his granddaughter. If she didn't save her, Hunter would be heartbroken.
Pearl couldn't be that indifferent.
Sophia suddenly remembered something. "I gave my phone and bag to Aurora. I don't know where she went!"
Upon hearing this, Pearl was confused. She hesitated and asked, "Weren't you with Aurora just now? How come you're suddenly alone?"
Sophia replied, "Aurora had something to do, so I wasn't with her, but we agreed to have dinner together."
Aurora was nearby, and with such a commotion, it was impossible for her not to know.
But she hadn't shown up at all.
From what Pearl knew about Aurora, she wasn't a simple person.
Looking at Sophia, Pearl noticed she had no suspicions at all. Pearl said, "You separated from her, and then you got into trouble, and she never showed up. Does that seem right to you?"
Sophia looked at Pearl. "Are you suspecting Aurora?"
Sophia shook her head. "No way. We're very close. If she were here, she would have helped. She must not know."
Pearl pursed her lips. Sophia was pure-hearted, having been pampered since childhood by loving people, and hadn't encountered much malice.
Today, facing those men, Sophia couldn't handle it, let alone Aurora.
Pearl didn't want to say more.
The police car stopped in front of the company.
Sophia said, "I want to get out too."
Pearl got out first and looked at Sophia. "Why are you getting out? Aren't you going home?"
Sophia looked at Pearl. "Grandpa said I could spend more time with you after I got home. I've never been to Oscar's company. I'll borrow your phone to call Grandpa later."
Queenie, seeing her change of attitude so quickly, whispered, "She was so arrogant just now, and now she's acting all delicate."
Pearl looked at Queenie. "Don't talk nonsense."
Sophia didn't argue, just lowered her head. "You wouldn't mind, would you?"
Sophia was putting down her pride to say this.
If Pearl refused, Sophia would lose all dignity.
It was the first time in her life she had asked someone like this.
Pearl saw Sophia's face turn red, indicating that she was embarrassed to say such things.
Pearl didn't want to expose her.
"Mr. Brown!"
Upon hearing the security guard, Pearl turned around to see Oscar striding out, looking very anxious.
Pearl hadn't noticed earlier, but Oscar's car was parked at the entrance.
Upon seeing Oscar's serious expression, Pearl asked, "Mr. Brown, do you have something urgent to attend to..."
Before she could finish speaking, Oscar grabbed her arm, pulling her several steps forward, causing her to bump into his chest.
Oscar held her tightly, staring at her face, and asked in a deep voice, "How did you get hurt? What happened? I called you, why didn't you answer?"
