Chapter 38 Jealousy

Oscar's words were decisive, filled with possessiveness.

How couldn’t he see that Adrian liked Pearl, always appearing by her side?

Then he should let Adrian know that he had no chance.

Adrian stared straight at Oscar, their eyes met, and they stood in a stalemate for a while before Adrian said, "Mr. Brown, it's too early to say that."

He was dignified, not angry, but took a sip of water and said meaningfully, "No one can predict what will happen in the future."

Oscar was not happy, unconsciously holding Pearl's hand.

Pearl also felt his emotions. Since Adrian arrived, he had been acting strange, targeting Adrian everywhere.

However, Pearl, being rational, didn't act impulsively. She withdrew her hand, trying to ease the situation. "What are you all talking about? Everything was fine, but now it's all about me. Mom, help Dad go rest. He's had too much to drink and might start talking nonsense again."

"Okay." Kittie also wanted to avoid the awkwardness. "Evans, go rest for a while and sober up."

Evans complied, but his gaze lingered on Adrian, still showing his approval. "Adrian, I have faith in you. We'll have a good drink together next time."

"Sure." Adrian politely stood up in response to Evans' words.

Kittie helped Evans inside, leaving only the three of them at the dining table. Suddenly, silence fell, making Pearl feel uncomfortable.

Adrian, however, paid no attention to Oscar's gaze and gently said to Pearl, "You didn't eat much just now. Have a little more."

He then placed the grilled fish in front of Pearl.

However, Oscar intercepted quickly, "No need, she doesn't like it!"

Adrian looked up at Oscar, sensing his hostility, but smiled and said, "Mr. Brown, I know you are Pearl's boss, but there's no need to intervene, right? The dishes Pearl likes are all placed on my side. I'm worried she won't get them."

Pearl stared at Adrian in astonishment, amazed at how well he knew her preferences.

Oscar's gaze was sharp, his tone icy. "Mr. Egan, I've been with Pearl for so many years. Don't you think I understand her better than you?"

At the sound of his voice, Pearl just pursed her lips slightly without saying anything.

Adrian was confident, smiling as he asked, "If Mr. Brown knows Pearl so well, do you know what she likes and dislikes?"

Oscar realized he hadn't paid much attention to Pearl's preferences and habits. It seemed like Pearl had always been following and taking care of him, leaving him little time to consider what she liked or disliked.

Adrian said, "Pearl is timid and easily nervous. She likes to drink milk to relax. She's not very picky about food, but she doesn't like carrots and dislikes food with black pepper. She likes to wear warm-colored clothes. Maybe due to work reasons, she wears more black-colored clothes now."

Pearl had not yet recovered from her surprise. "Adrian, how do you know this?"

Oscar's face darkened, showing clear displeasure, because he was not aware of these details, he heard them from Adrian.

Adrian knew because he observed her from the details of life.

Over time, he came to understand her.

He didn't explain much, "It's nothing, just eat."

Pearl felt a bit ashamed. In her eyes, Adrian was just an old classmate, not even a friend, yet Adrian was attentive to her to this extent.

Pearl picked at her food with a fork, but for some reason, she caught a whiff of an unpleasant odor that made her slightly nauseous, killing her appetite.

"What's wrong? Are you full?" Adrian asked.

Pearl put down her fork, unable to say she couldn't eat, so she said, "I'm already full."

Standing up, Oscar said, "If you're full, then don't force yourself to eat."

From his words, Pearl could sense his displeasure. She glanced at Oscar, seeing his cold indifference.

While Kittie attended to Evans, Pearl had no choice but to see Adrian off.

Adrian could tell that Pearl didn't look too good. He advised, "If you're not feeling well, you don't have to see me off. Go rest well, and I'll come to see you next time."

Pearl had many doubts in her mind, but with Oscar present, she refrained from asking too much and simply nodded, "Alright, take care on your way."

"Goodbye."

Adrian left without lingering, taking one last glance at Pearl before departing.

Oscar grabbed his coat and walked to the door, saying coldly, "Why does Adrian know you so well? Were you two that close in the past?"

"I don't know."

Oscar continued, "Can't you see? Adrian cares about you a lot."

Pearl looked up at Oscar. "There's nothing like that. Don't make baseless claims. He and I are just classmates. We haven't been in touch for so many years. How could he care about me?"

They had only met a few times.

"Don't contact him in the future!"

"Why can't I contact him? We're friends."

"I don't like it."

"There are many people you don't like, doesn't mean I won't like them."

Oscar, seeing her complete lack of awareness, looked even more displeased. "Pearl, you are completely clueless!"

His words made Pearl feel a bit ridiculous. "Oscar, don't you think it's absurd for you to be unhappy? You should think about why, after being married for so long, you still don't understand me as well as Adrian does."

She looked at him, even if he was very angry, she wanted to tell him, "Because in your world, I don't exist. You don't care about me or know my preferences. Even my interests and hobbies, you only know through Adrian. So you have no right to criticize me!"

He understood Haley, not her.

"Pearl, anyone else is fine, but not him!" Oscar's face was serious.

Pearl stared at his stern face, he was serious. "What if I want to stay in contact with Adrian?"

"Then we'll get a divorce!"

Pearl looked at him repeatedly. The word "divorce" came out quickly from his mouth. If she mentioned divorce, he could refuse, but if he mentioned it, she didn't even have the right to refuse.

She couldn't resist.

Feeling angry and somewhat amused, she wondered how she ended up in this situation, feeling nauseous and unable to hold back a retch.
