Chapter 790 The Obtrusive Suitor
"You're the patient, and I'm the doctor. It's my job to take care of you," Stanley said with a reassuring smile.
After setting everything up, he handed Saskia the utensils. "Go ahead, give it a try."
Saskia was indeed hungry. She didn't have much of an appetite, but she couldn't refuse. Besides, if she didn't regain her strength soon, how could she find Benjamin?
Just as she picked up the utensils to eat a little, footsteps echoed from outside. The door swung open, and Nathaniel entered, his face dark with anger.
He remarked, "Is this how Dr. Ortiz takes care of his patients? Or is this a special case?"
"We're friends. A little special care, what's the harm?" Stanley's words carried a hint of defiance.
The atmosphere in the room immediately grew tense. Nathaniel's gaze darted between Saskia and Stanley before finally resting on Saskia's pale face, his expression inscrutable.
Saskia felt the sudden tension, her hand freezing mid-air with the utensils.
Nathaniel let out a mocking laugh, his anger slightly dissipating, but his tone still laced with sarcasm. "Before you passed out, you were begging me to save your son, crying your heart out. I thought you cared. But now you're flirting with someone else, forgetting about your child so quickly?"
Saskia's face turned pale. Benjamin was her most vulnerable spot, the one thing she couldn't bear to be touched. Her heart tightened with anger, pain radiating from her wound.
Stanley noticed her distress first and stepped forward to support her. "Saskia, your wound hasn't healed yet. You can't get upset. Let's talk about this calmly."
Saskia bit her lip hard. "I'm fine."
Nathaniel had hoped to use Benjamin as a shield to make Stanley back off, but Stanley's concern for Saskia only fueled his anger. Barely containing his rage, Nathaniel spoke in a low, threatening voice, "Don't forget; you need to find Benjamin."
Saskia's expression changed, her eyes pleading. "Do you know where Benjamin is?" she asked.
Nathaniel sneered. "With all this cozy chatting, do you really care about Benjamin?"
"He's my child. I carried him for nine months and gave birth to him. Of course, I care. He's my closest family in this world." Saskia's voice trembled, tears welling up in her eyes.
Nathaniel fell silent, glancing at Stanley. Saskia understood and composed herself. "Stanley, could you leave us for a moment? I need to talk to him."
Stanley hesitated, knowing she had been through a lot over the years. He sighed and stood up. "Alright, I'll check on you later."
The moment Stanley walked away, Nathaniel's sarcasm reemerged. "Looks like your charm is still intact. Even the doctor can't resist you."
Saskia ignored his taunts, her mind solely focused on Benjamin. She said, "Nathaniel, please, if you know where Benjamin is, tell me. I'm begging you."
Her voice shook, her eyes red, each word dripping with desperation and pleading. Nathaniel's heart softened slightly at her distress."Don't worry. I'll help you find Benjamin," Nathaniel said, his voice softening a bit.
Saskia closed her eyes, feeling a deeper sense of despair. She didn't even notice when Nathaniel left. Her mind was in a haze.
She wanted to leave the hospital, but with people watching her, she couldn't. In the afternoon, a nurse came to change her bandages.
Saskia looked up, dazed. "No need," she refused.
"Dr. Ortiz specifically instructed this. I can't ignore his orders. Please cooperate since you're still in the hospital," the nurse said gently.
Saskia lowered her head, her eyes downcast. "I want to get some fresh air."
"Alright, after I change your bandages, I'll take you outside. You shouldn't strain your muscles right now," the nurse replied patiently.
The weather was nice. As Saskia was wheeled outside, she tried calling Azalea several times. Still no answer, as if Azalea had decided to disappear from the world, never to be seen again. The thought sent a chill through Saskia.
Nearby, a few nurses chatted as they walked.
"Where's Dr. Ortiz?"
"No idea, maybe he took a day off?"
"He never takes days off, and he's been visiting the patient rooms a lot lately. Doesn't seem like him to leave his patients."
"Really? Dr. Ortiz is the most handsome doctor here. Don't you miss him if you don't see him for a day?"
"Who wouldn't? Seeing his handsome face makes work more motivating."
The nurses laughed as Saskia passed by, but Saskia sensed something was off. She asked, "When did Dr. Ortiz go missing?"
"This morning. He said he had something to do and never came back. Maybe something came up. He hasn't taken a break in a while, so it's probably fine." With that, the nurse pushed her to a shady spot under a tree.
Saskia looked around. The yard was fenced in, and with her injuries, she wasn't sure if she could escape.
At the law firm, someone knocked on the door. Nathaniel snapped out of his thoughts and responded, "Come in."
His assistant walked in briskly, nodding. "We've detained him. He's under house arrest, no chance of leaving."
Nathaniel nodded. "Good job."
"The person..." The assistant hesitated.
"Release him after Saskia is discharged. He's a nuisance right now," Nathaniel said, frowning.
The assistant understood. As he was about to leave, he received a call. After listening, his expression changed, and he turned back.
The assistant said, "He seems to know it was you. He insists on seeing you."
Nathaniel never worried about such matters. Even if Stanley knew, without evidence, Stanley couldn't do anything.
Nathaniel replied, "Just keep him detained."
His mind was a jumble of recent events. Everything was laid bare, and he and Saskia were drifting further apart. He narrowed his eyes.
The assistant noticed Nathaniel's foul mood and wisely left without another word.
Nathaniel sat alone behind his large desk, fingers tapping lightly, lost in thought. Just then, the phone on his desk rang. He picked it up. "Who is this?"
