Chapter 94 A Big Scene
Seraphina was taken aback and took a few steps back.
"You're saying that Pearl is Oscar's wife?"
Seraphina couldn't believe it. How could things have turned out this way?
If Oscar was Pearl's husband, why didn't she know about it? Why didn't they make this public?
"Yes, but first let go of my hand," Isabelle said, pulling her hand away. "Oscar is my cousin's husband!"
As Seraphina looked at them, she still had some doubts. "You're tricking me, right? Isn't Pearl Oscar's secretary? How could she become his wife?"
"Why couldn't it be possible?"Olivia said. "I saw it with my own eyes and heard it myself. Cousin Oscar even went to visit my brother, Pearl's father. Oscar is our cousin Oscar."
As Seraphina processed the information from their words, she came to a conclusion. "You... didn't know before?"
Olivia was also puzzled and sighed. "We only found out recently. If we had known earlier, our family would have been much richer! The Brown family even paid back two million dollars to Evans! For an ordinary family, earning two million dollars would take several lifetimes! If only we had discovered this earlier, we would have benefited too. Even though we couldn't become millionaires, it would have been nice to have a better house.
"The Brown family is so big, they could have at least organized a wedding. We haven't even attended the wedding yet! They got married and are from such a wealthy family, and none of us, as relatives, knew about it. If I hadn't coincidentally seen it when I went to visit my brother, I would have never known in my whole life!"
Olivia pursed her lips, thinking it was Pearl's fault as she continued, "My niece is something else. She's afraid I'll snatch their money. With Oscar being so rich, giving 200 or 400 thousand dollars to relatives is not a big deal."
Isabelle also felt that her cousin had ulterior motives. She had never been close to her since childhood and was unwilling to help her. "I graduated from college and wanted to intern at Brown Group, but my cousin didn't allow me. I'm her cousin, but she's suspicious of me. She's really cold-blooded!"
They talked about many of Pearl's shortcomings.
Olivia held Isabelle's hand and reassured her, "It's alright, Brown Group is not Pearl's responsibility, it's Oscar's responsibility. I am his elder, and since he didn't even give a gift, he will have to give me face this time. I will talk to him and as long as he agrees, why would you be afraid of not being able to work at Brown Group?"
"Mom, is it really possible?" Isabelle's hope rested on her mother.
Finding a job as a college student was already difficult, and she didn't graduate from a prestigious school.
Nowadays, competition was fierce, and even graduates from prestigious schools may not find a good job.
Brown Group was a company that many people make every effort to work for.
If she could get in, she would be conspicuous in front of her teachers and classmates!
"It will work, for sure!"Olivia prepared herself. She wouldn't go back today unless she got results!
Seraphina listened to their conversation and understood.
They were Pearl's cousin and aunt.
Their relationship with Pearl was not good, and they held grudges.
Oscar and Pearl kept their marriage a secret from the public.
No one knew.
If they had a normal marriage, how could they not have a luxurious wedding?
There was only one conceivable explanation: they were compelled into marriage. There had to be a motive behind it, but love was conspicuously absent.
Seraphina was aware of Pearl's affection for Oscar. It was precisely because of this affection that Pearl had agreed to marry him. However, Oscar's heart belonged to someone else, so how could he truly love Pearl?
Seraphina bore a resemblance to Oscar's true love, which inevitably stirred some emotions within him. Initially nervous, Seraphina found reassurance in their interactions.
Despite Pearl being known as Mrs. Brown, it seemed futile. Their marriage was likely to end in divorce eventually.
Looking at them, Seraphina suddenly had a good idea.
"Don't worry," Seraphina said with a smile, "It's not easy to get into Brown Group, you will be kicked out before you even get in!"
"How is that possible? I am Oscar's aunt, who would dare to kick me out!"Olivia, relying on this status, felt fearless. She even thought that someone would offer her coffee and treat her well.
Seraphina said, "You said Pearl is wary of you. She is Oscar's secretary and if you say you want to get in, she will definitely be the first to know. Do you think you will be kicked out?"
Olivia had some concerns, and she said displeasedly, "You're right, she didn't speak nicely at the hospital. If we come here, will she give me respect?
"My niece, she doesn't respect her elders at all. I don't know how she was educated!"
Isabelle was influenced and became a little anxious. "So what should we do?" she asked.
Olivia looked ahead at the building with the Brown Group logo on top. The entire building belonged to the Brown family; they must be very wealthy. She had never imagined that one day someone from their family would marry a rich person.
"I have a solution!" Seraphina said. "I don't know if you would be willing, though."
Olivia turned to Seraphina, happy, and asked, "You are so kind. What solution do you have?"
Thirty minutes later, there was a commotion at the entrance of the Brown Group building.
Olivia tried to communicate with the receptionist at the entrance, but Pearl was nowhere to be found. She knew this would happen. Even though they were relatives, Pearl didn't bother to meet her. No wonder she felt desperate!
Olivia began to create a scene, showing her tantrum. "Pearl is my niece, and her aunt doesn't even show up. She is so unfilial and doesn't care about her uncle's life or death. Is she really working in this big company and doesn't recognize her own family?"
The receptionist found it difficult to handleOlivia's crying and tantrums. She was most worried about the journalists outside. If journalists saw this scene while interviewing, it would be bad for the company's image. She quickly went forward to supportOlivia. "Madam, please don't panic. Have a seat for a while and calm down. Have some water."
Olivia looked at the receptionist. "Why would I drink water? Bring Pearl out. If she doesn't come out, we won't leave!"
Seraphina had mentioned that there was a risk in coming to find Oscar. If she was kicked out, she wouldn't get any money and would just be wasting time. After all, she was Pearl's aunt, and if Pearl was indifferent toward her, it could only mean that Pearl was a heartless person.
If Pearl's image was damaged, it would affect the Brown Group, andOlivia couldn't let that happen. She found this reasoning reasonable. Oscar was an important person, and if he held a grudge againstOlivia, she might never be able to ask her cousin Oscar for money again. She couldn't offend anyone, especially not her wealthy cousin Oscar. So she had no choice but to deal with Pearl.
"Secretary Pearl is busy, she truly doesn't have time," the receptionist said.
"Even if she's busy, she still has time to breathe, right? What's wrong with seeing her aunt?"
