Chapter 636 Pursuit
Seeing Desiree's questioning eyes, Harold felt a flicker of pain cross his usually calm face.
He turned away from her. "Your parents are right; they're just looking out for you. I'm just an assistant; I can't give you what you want."
"That's not what you really think! If it were, why can't you even look at me?" Desiree shouted.
"Desiree."
"Unless you look me in the eye and say we're breaking up, I won't believe you," she said firmly.
With that, Desiree stormed out.
Not long after she left, Oscar walked into the office and saw Harold with his head down.
"This is the first time I've seen you so down. What happened?"
Harold forced a bitter smile. "She wants me to tell her in person that we're breaking up, but how can I say that?"
"If that's the case, then don't hesitate. Her parents look down on you, so start your own company and prove them wrong. Harold, you're not one to give up easily."
Staring blankly at Oscar, Harold felt a surge of emotion, and his eyes became resolute.
He hurried downstairs to find Desiree, only to discover she hadn't left at all.
Desiree was sitting in a café, staring outside, looking lost.
A waiter approached and asked, "Hello, ma'am, may I get you something?"
"A cappuccino, please."
The waiter left.
The café was filled with the sound of a soothing violin, but Desiree couldn't hear any of it. Her mind was occupied with the image of Harold avoiding her gaze earlier.
"Idiot! Who cares about being worthy or not?" Desiree angrily slammed her bag on the table, her eyes welling up with tears. "He usually seems so smart, but why is he so stupid now?"
"Desiree!" Hearing the voice, Desiree thought she was mistaken and looked up in surprise.
In front of her was Harold, who was breathless.
It was rare to see him so disheveled. Harold was always meticulous about his appearance, always presenting his best to others.
But now, to chase after her, he didn't care about his image.
"Why did you come down? Didn't you not want to see me?" Desiree's voice was trembling.
Harold quickly denied it, "I didn't, Desiree. Everything I said earlier was against my will. I don't want to be apart from you, not even for a moment."
"Then why did you say those things to me?"
"I was confused for a moment, but Mr. Brown helped me see clearly. I realized that your parents don't accept me because I don't have my own career." Harold looked serious. "So, I'll build my own career. Desiree, will you stay with me while I do it?"
Desiree's nose tingled, and she threw herself into his arms with teary eyes. "Of course, I will."
"Congratulations to both of you," the waiter said with a smile as he brought the coffee.
Only then did Desiree realize they were in a café. She blushed and let go of Harold.
Harold didn't rush to leave afterward; he stayed with her in the café for a while.
People around them looked at them with envy.
With Oscar's full support, Harold's company was established smoothly, focusing on real estate. With partners introduced by the Brown Group, everything went well.
Desiree would occasionally help out.
Working together, they secured several big deals, and the company thrived. The number of employees kept growing, and everyone knew their bosses were a loving couple. They couldn't help but envy their relationship.
"Ms. Sandvik and Mr. Lewis have such a great relationship!"
"Yeah, but why haven't they gotten married yet?"
"Maybe they're just focusing on their careers. They're both in their prime, so maybe it's not the best time for marriage. But I bet it's just a matter of time."
Every day was busy, but Desiree's smile was unmistakable.
Seeing her like this, Harold was more and more grateful for his decision. He was glad he didn't give up and made the right choice, and he was even more thankful for Oscar's help.
Oscar didn't think much of it. "Compared to what you did for me back then, this is nothing."
They chatted as they walked outside.
Downstairs, they saw Desiree holding a bouquet of red roses.
Desiree was wearing a blue dress, her hair partially up, holding the bouquet.
At that moment, Harold felt his heart skip a beat, feeling as if something had struck his heart.
Desiree hadn't noticed him yet and asked the receptionist with a frown, "You really don't know who sent these?"
The receptionist shook her head and said, "Maybe you should check if there's a note on the bouquet?"
Desiree had already checked, but there was only a simple message of congratulations, nothing else.
"Desiree, what's going on?"
Desiree turned around and saw Harold and Oscar approaching. Seeing Harold, whom she had been thinking about, she relaxed her frown slightly.
She handed the roses to Harold. "When I came over, the receptionist said there was a bouquet for me to sign for. Here, is it from you?"
It wasn't surprising that Desiree thought it was from Harold.
He often did things without saying anything, so it was normal for him to secretly order flowers without telling her.
But this time, she was wrong.
"No." Harold frowned slightly. "I didn't order any flowers."
"That's strange. Could it be from one of Ms. Sandvik's admirers?" The receptionist's words left them in silence.
The atmosphere was a bit tense, and Harold's eyes darkened, lost in thought.
"Sorry, Mr. Lewis! Please pretend you didn't hear anything," the receptionist quickly corrected herself.
Desiree looked at Harold nervously. "I really don't know where these flowers came from. If you don't like them, I'll throw them away."
She was about to throw the flowers away when Harold stopped her. "No need, the flowers are nice. You can keep them."
Seeing that Harold genuinely didn't mind, Desiree felt a bit relieved and instructed the receptionist, "From now on, don't accept any unknown items."
"Understood, I'll be careful."
They treated it as a minor incident and didn't dwell on it. Harold's feelings for her remained unchanged, which reassured Desiree even more.
However, a few days later, she received another mysterious gift.
This time, it wasn't just a simple bouquet of roses.
"Ms. Sandvik, this is for you," the receptionist handed Desiree a red velvet box.
Desiree opened it suspiciously and saw a dazzling necklace inside, causing a stir around her.
"Isn't this the limited edition custom necklace from Elysian Jewels that came out last week?"
"Did Mr. Lewis send it? Wow, he's so good to Ms. Sandvik!"
