Chapter 618 Stop Bothering Me

Janetta snapped, "What the heck are you doing? Haven't you caused enough trouble already?"

Damian froze, staring at her like a deer in headlights.

Henry, playing it up, groaned and clutched his leg. "Ouch, Janetta, come check my leg."

Damian threw a blanket over him and scoffed, "Mr. Doe, let me call a doctor. Janetta's not a nurse."

"None of your business," Janetta ignored Damian and carefully checked Henry's legs, causing Damian's heart to ache as if it were being crushed; he glared at Henry, who looked back at him with a smug expression.

Damian's anger flared, but he knew losing his cool would only make Janetta hate him more.

After a moment, he forced a smile and said, "Janetta, I need to talk to you. Can we step outside?"

"Say it here," Janetta replied, not even looking up as she started peeling an apple.

"There are outsiders here," Damian insisted.

Janetta glanced at Henry and smiled. "Mr. Doe isn't an outsider. Who else would risk their life for me? Even if he were an outsider, after saving me like that, I could never consider him one."

Both Damian and Henry were taken aback.

Henry, looking thrilled, raised his hand and vowed, "I promise, nothing like that will ever happen again. I'll protect you."

Damian sneered.

Janetta shot him a sideways glance. "Didn't you have something to say? If not, leave and stop bothering us."

Damian stormed over, yanked Janetta up, and pinned her against the wall. "What do you mean by 'us'? What's your deal with him?"

"Exactly what you think. Got a problem with that?" Janetta stared him down, warning herself not to get swayed by his eyes.

Damian grabbed her chin, but Henry cut in, "Mr. Clark, if you don't let go, I won't hesitate to team up with Oscar to take down the Clark Family. No more Clarks in Willow Creek."

Damian reluctantly let go. He could be reckless with his own life, but not with his family's.

Looking at Janetta with pain in his eyes, he finally asked, "Are you two together?"

Janetta paused and softly said, "Yes."

Damian laughed bitterly and yelled, "Just because he saved you, you're with him? Janetta, do you still fall for these self-sacrificing acts? Are you that naive?"

"Yes, so what? Not only am I with him, but I'm also going to marry him. So, Damian, leave me alone," Janetta almost shouted. She went back to peeling the apple, ignoring Damian.

She didn't even notice when Damian left until Henry sighed and said, "If you keep peeling, there'll be nothing left but the core."

Janetta looked down and realized the apple was almost gone.

"Sorry," she mumbled.

Henry gave a bitter smile. "Janetta, if I proposed right now, would you say yes?"

Henry knew Janetta's earlier words were partly to get Damian off her back, but he wanted to take his shot.

Seeing Janetta look down in silence, Henry pressed on, "If marrying me means you can get rid of Damian, would you do it?"

Janetta looked up, tears in her eyes. "It's not fair to you."

Henry gave a sad smile. "Fairness doesn't exist. I know you don't have feelings for him. I like you, so what's wrong with helping you out?"

Janetta choked up, unsure of what to say. And just like that, they agreed to a marriage that should've been a big deal.

The next morning, Pearl was floored when Janetta told her. She stared at Janetta in disbelief until Janetta gave a bitter smile, and Pearl figured it out.

Pearl took Janetta's hand and gently said, "Before this gets out, you need to tell him the truth. You can't marry him."

Janetta shook her head. "I've thought about it all night. Pearl, I don't have much time left. Why not get married once before I die?"

Pearl didn't know how to respond. All she felt was heartache for Janetta.

Damian, upon being the first to hear of Janetta and Henry's wedding set for the following Sunday, refused all visitors and spent the entire day in his hospital room staring at the ceiling.

After that, Damian never went to see Janetta again, but he did arrange for the art exhibition to be reorganized and secretly gave the investor a big payout.

Janetta was pretty happy, shopping with Pearl every day and having the staff deliver everything to her new home.

This new home was a villa Henry had bought for her, just a street away from Pearl's place.

Life seemed to be going as Janetta had hoped. She grew to love this lifestyle more and more, and if she could get her health back, she'd have no more wishes.

Whenever she had those thoughts, Janetta would quickly shut them down, afraid the universe would take back the blessing of her upcoming marriage.

Night fell, and tomorrow was the big day, her wedding day.

Janetta stumbled out of a bar and saw a familiar car, so she walked over. She tapped on the window and called out, "Take me home, hurry."

Inside the car, Damian heard the voice, opened the window, and saw Janetta. His eyes lit up.

He opened the door, and after Janetta got in, he leaned over and said, "Miss, throwing yourself at others isn't good. But I'm in a bad mood today, so I'll let you be willful once."

Janetta smiled and gave her home address. "I'm getting married tomorrow. You know, having someone to rely on feels really good. This sense of security is indescribable."

"What a coincidence! My sweetheart is getting married tomorrow too. Fate really plays tricks. It says we're half-siblings, so I've never dared to confess. I love her but can't be with her, and I have to watch her be with someone else. How painful is that?" Damian said.

"Yeah, painful. So drink." Janetta had no idea the person beside her was Damian, and Damian didn't know the person beside him was Janetta. They chatted, and eventually, their eyes met, and their lips touched.
