Chapter 872 Semifinal Debate Topic
The girl died because she was forced to exercise during gym class while on her period. She had asked the teacher for a break, but the request was denied.
She had no choice but to keep running, which led to severe bleeding. She wasn't treated in time and died.
The school claimed that while they were partly responsible, the girl and her family were also to blame. They argued that other students didn't have any issues, so why did she?
Saskia was furious just reading the report. "I can't believe there's a school this shameless!"
Nathaniel tried to calm her down. "Take it easy."
She took a deep breath and sighed. Nathaniel was right; there were too many cases like this.
Twenty thousand dollars for a life seemed absurd, but such cases were all too common in reality, because the law didn't explicitly cover such situations."It wasn't just that. The girl had a tough time at school. As a transfer student, she couldn't fit in and was bullied. She tried to report it, but no one listened, and her parents didn't care," Saskia said, her mood worsening.
She looked at Nathaniel in confusion. "With so many similar incidents, why isn't there a regulation to prevent this?"
Bullying might seem minor, but it deeply affects a person's heart. Many even commit suicide because of it each year.
Nathaniel looked down, his eyes filled with helplessness. Even he felt at a loss sometimes. "Calm down. There are many factors involved."
"But think positively. If you win this debate, more people will notice and maybe things will change," he said.
Saskia nodded. "You're right."
She focused on the documents. Nathaniel busied himself with his own work. Though they didn't speak, there was a peaceful feeling between them.
Sunlight streamed through the window, and a sound came from somewhere.
Saskia felt embarrassed, covering her stomach, wishing she could disappear.
Nathaniel chuckled, then acted nonchalant. "Take a break. You can't read all this at once. Let's get some food."
Saskia agreed, not wanting her stomach to protest again while reading.
Nathaniel booked a restaurant. Saskia brought the documents along. While Nathaniel went to talk to the waiter, she noticed someone behind her trying to peek at her papers.
Saskia's gaze turned sharp. "What are you looking at?"
The man, wearing a T-shirt and glasses, looking a bit nerdy, quickly denied it. "Nothing, I wasn't looking at anything."
He lowered his head, pretending nothing happened.
Saskia laughed angrily. "Don't lie. I saw you peeking."
She had to be serious. The debate documents were confidential, and people usually don't snoop on others' things.
Either he had a weird habit, or he had ulterior motives. Either way, Saskia was on guard.
Seeing Saskia wouldn't let it go, the man got angry. "What's your problem? I said I wasn't looking! Do you think you're so attractive that everyone wants to stare at you?"
Saskia heard people whispering.
Most didn't know what happened, but based on the man's confidence, they started doubting her.
"She must be delusional, thinking everyone is watching her."
"Maybe she's just too confident. Confidence can be a disease."
"I think she's pretty. Why be so mean to her? Maybe the guy was peeking."
Hearing someone defend her, Saskia felt warm inside and smiled at the young woman who spoke up.
The young woman blushed and quickly looked down, pretending to drink her cocoa.
Saskia didn't mind and continued confronting the man.
"I didn't say you were staring at me. You were looking at my documents."
"You're lying!"
Saskia took a deep breath, smiling. "Let's check the security footage. There's a camera right there. To clear your name, you wouldn't mind, right?"
The man saw the red light of the camera she pointed to, hidden well.
His face turned pale, trying to run.Saskia shouted, "Stop him! He's a peeping Tom!"
But it happened so fast, no one reacted in time.
Saskia was a step too slow.
Just as the man was about to escape, he cried out in pain. "Who are you? Let go of my hand!"
From his cries, it was clear the person who caught him wasn't gentle.
Saskia was surprised to see Nathaniel at the door. She looked at the front desk, confused. "When did you get here? Weren't you just..."
"I got a call and came back through the front door," Nathaniel explained, his cold gaze on the man.
He had returned just in time.
The man realized they were together.
Losing his confidence, he begged Saskia. "Please, I won't do it again. Let him go!"
Saskia extended her hand. "Give me your phone."
Seeing his practiced reactions, she suspected he was a repeat offender.
She needed to check for other victims.
The man hesitated, but a twist of his hand made him wince in pain, and he handed over his phone.
Saskia's face turned colder as she saw the photos.
His gallery was full of secret shots, including documents and inappropriate photos of women.
Saskia glared at him. He was scum.
Ignoring his pleas, she called the police, handing over the phone as evidence.
"I shouldn't have left you alone. If I hadn't, you wouldn't have encountered this creep," Nathaniel said, seeing Saskia still upset and unable to eat.
Saskia quickly held his hand. "It's not your fault. It's those people. I'm just angry for the victims."
